Anna thought, /âm not afraid of you! Why would I? She was so angry that she even wanted to slap him.
Wayne left after saying that, much to her delight. And Anna sat nervously in her office until three oâclock when she was relieved of her duties. She walked away without even saying hello when the doctor on the next shift arrived there.
She had to return to work at nine a.m., so she slept in the doctorâs lounge. Being on duty all night was exhausting. However, Anna couldnât sleep after lying down. She knew she would meet Wayne when she returned to Birmingham but she didnât expect that she would meet him so soon. Sheâd only been back a month when she ran into Peter and him at the hospital.
For five years, Annaâd been thinking about it and still wasnât sure how sheâd face Wayne again. Anna knew that if they never saw each other again, time would make them let go of everything. Some people may forget someone after only a few days of not seeing them, while others may take years or even a lifetime.
Thinking of that, Anna had been laying down for several hours until dawn. She awoke with bloodshot eyes after getting out of bed to shower. It was only seven oâclock in the morning.
Before going to work, she went to Nancyâs office and asked her to restore her shift schedule. Nancy asked curiously, âWhy did you change your mind? Do you want to meet your father now?â
Anna frowned and said, âHeâs not my father! Would you please drop it? Isit fun to tease me like that?â 393 Wayne Is in A Good Mood Seeing that Annaâs face darkened and she was annoyed, Nancy decided to let go of the topic this time. She wanted to keep teasing her though:
After a brief pause, Nancy sighed and said, âNo worries, Iâll change your shift for you as long as you go on a blind date for me on Saturday.â
âDr. Moore, if you ever say Iâm Mr. Wrightâs illegitimate daughter again, Iâll tell the head nurse you asked me to go on a blind date for you,â Anna said, taking a deep breath.
âDr. Gabriel, you canât do this to me!â Nancy exclaimed.
âYou threatened me, so | have to defend myself. Iâll only go on one blind date for you, and Iâll stay out of it from now on.â
After that, Anna returned to the lounge after leaving Nancyâs office. She smelled coffee as soon as she opened the door.
One of her co-workers was eating a bagel. When she saw Anna return, she waved to her and said, âHere, have some breakfast.
I was just looking for you, and they said you went to Nancyâs office. The coffee and bagels are from that place around the corner, and theyâre delicious. Thatâs the most popular breakfast shop in the neighborhood.â
Anna was curious because she didnât know what was good to eat around the hospital. She took a sip of her cappuccino and was amazed by its taste. âThanks.â
Her colleague smiled and said, âYou donât have to thank me. In all the years Iâve been working here, no one has ever brought me breakfast except my husband. You were on duty here all night long yesterday, right? A young man brought you breakfast this morning.â Anna froze and asked, âThis is for me?â
Her co-worker handed her a blueberry bagel and said, âA young man asked me where you were when I got here this morning. I told him that no 393 Wayne Is in A Good Mood one else was allowed in our lounge, so he asked me to bring you breakfast. |
happened to be there early, so had some.â
Anna stared in amazement at the cappuccino in her hand. Of course, she knew who this young man was.
The morning meeting had just ended at the Carousel Group headquarters. Several department heads walked out of the conference room cheerfully, which was unusual.
The two directors of the finance department came out of the elevator side by side, talking with each other.
âMr. Wright is in a good mood today! I found a little mistake with the financial plan this morning, but I didnât have time to reprint it.
| thought he would lose his temper with me again. But I didnât expect him to say nothing about this.â
âHe probably didnât notice it. Keep your voice down! If he finds out later, heâll let you go to his office and question you about it.â
âHe never makes mistakes. His eyes are even better than a scanner! He can see the problem at a glance. So, heâs definitely in a good mood today. Besides, he kept checking his phone just now.â
The finance department director looked around and lowered his voice, âSomeone told me he was on a blind date last week. Is it possible that heâs in a relationship?â
âIs he? He hasnât been in a relationship since he called off his engagement five years ago. I think he was probably talking business with a client at the time.â
The director sighed and said, âYeah, I almost forgot about that. Iâm not sure what happened that year. But why did he cancel the wedding so. abruptly? | even received his wedding invitation.â 393 Wayne Is in A Good Mood âIâd heard that it had something to do with his son.â âYou mean Matthew?â
âYep. Iâve heard all sorts of rumors. Many people said that Wayneâs fiancée did not treat Matthew well at the time. Wayne found out about it on the wedding day, which is why the engagement was called offâ
âIs that so? | think thatâs a bit odd.â
âWell, itâs all in the past, so letâs stop talking about this. Iâm worried that someone might hear it.â
Around the elevatorâs corner, a twelve-year-old boy in a well-tailored suit stood behind a tall potted plant. His assistant was standing by his side, saying cautiously to him, âDonât take it personally, Matthew. Many people talk about this tedious gossip.â
Matthew looked very calm and composed. He didnât seem to mind this and just said, âI really donât like this kind of gossip. My mom will be upset if she comes back and hears it.â
âThen Iâll tell them to stop gossiping about Matthew said, âNo, donât go. Make an announcement for me. If anyone talks about my fatherâs personal life again, theyâll lose their bonus for the year.â
The assistant froze for a moment and said, âReally? Iâm worried that people might think thereâs something really wrong with Mr.
Wright if we do so.â
âWhy are you worried about that? Thatâs something his secretary has to take care of for him.â âSorry, Iâll get right on it.â
