âHow is that possible? Mr. Wright is going to marry Miss Xavier.â
âItâs said that Mr. Wrightâs grandfather doesnât like Miss Xavier and doesnât approve their marriage.â
âWhat?â A maid covered her mouth in surprise and said in a low voice, âReally? Now Ms. Gabriel appears, and Matthew really likes her. Does this mean...?â
âBehave yourself and be respectful. Maybe she will become the lady of the house.â
Anna was busy eating with the two children. She didnât know that Matthewâs friendly attitude towards her had aroused the servantsâ wild imagination and labelled her as the future Mrs. Wright.
It was already three oâclock when the meetings were over, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Gabe had already ordered some food for him and put it on the table in his office.
âMr. Wright, why donât you eat first? I will put the copy of the meeting minutes in your computer later.â
Wayne pinched between his eyebrows and slightly nodded, exhausted. He had been working nonstop and hadnât eaten anything since seven in the morning.
After resting for a while, Wayne called home. He put his phone aside and opened the speaker while eating.
His butler quickly answered and asked respectfully, âMr. Wright, have you finished your meetings?â
âYeah, just finished. How are things at home?â
âEverything has been fine. Please rest assured. Ms. Gabriel and Matthew are having a good time. Her daughter also gets along well with him.â
While they were talking, Wayne heard Tammyâs laughter on the other end of the phone.
âMatthew, your toy is really funny. Hahahaha.â
Although he didnât hear Matthewâs voice, he could naturally imagine how happy Matthew was with Tammyâs happy laughter.
Wayne soon stopped frowning.
âWell, look out for the children.â
âMr. Wright, do you still need to work? Ms. Gabriel asked me whether you were coming for dinner.â
âNo, Iâve had plan tonight.â
Wayne said calmly, âIâll go back after dinner. If Iâm too late, remember to tell the driver to send Anna and her daughter home.â
Hanging up the phone, he was overwhelmed by mixed feelings. Holding the fork and ing at the delicious food, he suddenly lost his appetite. Somehow, he thought of the food that Anna brought to the hospital last weekend. She must be preparing for dinner now. She will definitely cook by herself though there are lots of servants in the house. What will they eat tonight?
âMr. Wright, the restaurant said they forgot the soup. It has just been sent here.â Gabe suddenly knocked on the door and came in, with an insulated food box in his hand.
Wayne stared at the silver food box and suddenly put down the fork. He suddenly stood up, âGabe, cancel the dinner for me. I donât want to go.â
âWhat?â Gabe asked, still holding the food box, âWhy not? Do you have any important thing to do? Itâs the banquet of the Birmingham Trade Fair!â
However, Wayne ignored him and took his coat and went outside.
He burned up the road on his way and saw a bakery halfway. He bought two boxes of snacks. It was still not nightfall when he arrived home. He stepped out of the car in the glow of sunset and heard the laughter in the playroom on the second floor.
When Wayne pushed the door open, Anna was standing there, her hands covered by flour, and pointing to Tammy, who was excitedly jumping on the trampoline, âCome down, Tammy Gabriel. Cut it out! Iâm going to make dinner. You canât jump on it without my watch. Youâll fall down.â
âMatthew, you havenât recovered from the injury yet. Donât monkey around with Tammy.â
With one hand on the door, Wayne was astonished by the scene. Matthew had always been a quiet boy. But now he was rolling on the trampoline with Tammy. He was wearing a Spider-Man costume and made the Spider-Man iconic hand gesture once in a while. Did my son really break his arm?
With Annaâs warning, the two children looked at each other, stuck out their tone and finally got out of the trampoline quietly.
âThatâs it. Donât mess around. You can play after I finish cooking. Alright?â
Anna pointed to Tammyâs nose, âTake care of Matthew. Donât play crazily with him. He hasnât recovered yet. His arm is still in the cast.â
Tammy smiled broadly, âOK, mommy. I know. We wonât jump on the trampoline.â Anna finally turned around in satisfaction.
She didnât see that there was a man at the door because she was still looking at the children from the corner of her eyes, and then she collided with him.
âOuch!â Anna shouted, her forehead hitting a firm chest. She raised her head in pain and finally saw clearly who that man was.
She took a few steps back in a fluster.
âSorry. Sorry...â She saw that there were two white handprints on Wayneâs black shirt while flour was still falling from it.
Wayne stood there angrily. âSorry.â Anna quickly walked to him, âLet me help you clean it.â She patted on his chest. The handprints were surely gone, but now the whole shirt was covered by flour. Wayne choked and coughed, covering his mouth, and pushing her away.
âAnna Gabriel, are you taking revenge on me? Ahem ahem...â
Anna gave a shake of her head, âNo... Of course not. I was going to cook dinner. I was making a dough. How could I know that you were standing at the door?â
âSo it is my fault?â
âYou shouldnât have stood there without even making a sound.â Anna whispered guiltily.
Face darkening, Wayne said in a deeper voice, âAnna Gabriel, have I been too friendly to you lately?â
âNo. No. No.â Anna shook her hand and explained leisurely, âYou see, I was making a dough because I wanted to make some snacks for your son. I got your shirt dirty also because I wanted to make some snacks for your son. Think about it. Which is more important, your shirt or your son?â
Wayne was speechless. He frowned and didnât bother to retort her. He suddenly changed the topic, âIâve got servants at home. Is it necessary for you to cook? I invited you here to play. Not cook. Now you may look happy. I guess later you will blame me for forcing you to work on the weekend.â
âWhat you make is definitely different from what the servants make.â Anna rolled her eyes and raised her eyebrows, âBelieve it or not. If you can make some snacks for Matthew, he will be thrilled, even if they are not as delicious as the food the servants make.â
âDonât bother. Iâve bought some.â Wayne showed her the dessert box in his hand. âItâs different from homemade food.â Anna suddenly thought of something, âWait, are you free tonight?â Wayne looked at her and answered casually, âYeah.â
âGreat. Letâs go to the kitchen. I can teach you how to make a dough and cookies. Come on.â
