âTammy Gabriel.â Anna said in a deep voice, staring at the little girl. âDo you think it is OK to stay here?â
Tammy set her mouth in a line with a guilty look on her face. Usually, Anna was really angry when she talked to Tammy in this way.
âMommy.â Tammy pulled Annaâs sleeves, âI just want to play with Matthew a little longer.â
Anna looked at her with great seriousness, âDo you know what time it is now? Havenât | told you that you can play but you canât wear out your welcome? Itâs common courtesy.â
While Anna was snapping at Tammy, Matthew suddenly crawled to her and held one of her legs with one hand, with the sketch board in the other hand.
Anna felt it and looked down subconsciously at Matthew, who was holding the board up high. She saw the words that Matthew wrote, âI want Tammy to stay.â
âMatthew.â Anna frowned and suddenly didnât know what to say. It always seemed difficult for her to refuse Matthewâs request.
âMatthew, we have to go. Itâs too late now. Next time I will bring Tammy here to play with you again. OK?â
Seeing that Anna still insist to leave, Matthew became agitated. He quickly wrote some words on the board and pulled Wayneâs pants to let him read it.
âIf you donât let Tam and Auntie stay, I wonât eat.â
Matthewâs request took Wayne by surprise and struck a church with him. He hesitantly looked at Anna, âUhm, why donât you stay tonight? I will have them clean a room for you and Tam.â
Astonished, Anna said, âNo. Itâs a little inappropriate.â âDonât get me wrong.â Wayne glanced at her and explained calmly, â»
âIf you leave now, Matthew will refuse to eat tomorrow. His arm hasnât recovered yet. He can only stay at home and rarely see his friends.â
Wayneâs words didnât leave much choice for Anna.
Tammy seized the moment of Annaâs hesitation and said, âMommy, tomorrow is Sunday. I donât need to go to school, and you donât need to go to work. I promise I wonât ask you to stay here tomorrow. I just want to stay with Matthew for a little longer.â
Now Anna could do nothing but to agree. She poked Tammy on the forehead and cast a significant look at her, âYouâre a big girl now, trying to keep your friend company.â
After Anna decided to stay, the servants cleaned a guest room for them. Anna first took Tammy to have a shower. Tammy was crazily excited, laughing and playing wildly in the bathtub, and getting all the towels in the bathroom wet.
âAlright. Alright. Enough. Is it really this good to stay here?â
âYes.â
Tammy looked at Anna with smiling eyes, âMommy, Iâve always wanted to have a brother.â
Anna frowned and said in a low voice, âYou do have one.â
Tammy realized that she had reopened an old wound and regretted, âSorry, mommy.â
âItâs alright.â Anna touched her head resignedly, âStay in the water quietly. Or youâll catch a cold. Iâll find a dry towel for you.â
âOK.â
The son that was taken away had always been a pain in Annaâs heart. She knew that it was unlikely to bring him back even if she found him. But she hoped that she could see him again, if possible. She only wanted to know whether he was happy. If he was living a happy life, she didnât need to disturb him.
She went out of the bathroom and let out a sigh of sadness, feeling hard to breathe.
Wayne was drinking water in the living room. He turned around when he heard the sound and saw Anna walking downstairs. Her dress was drenched to the skin on the chest part, vaguely showing the outline of her bra.
He was suddenly nervous, his mouth dry.
âUhm, where are the servants?â Anna hesitantly asked him, seeing that he was staring at her.
Wayne came to himself and avoided Annaâs gaze, âJust went outside. Throwing the rubbish, I guess. What are you looking for?â
âTowels.â Anna pulled her collar and smiled resignedly, âTammy was naughty in the servants whether they can find some dry towels.â
Wayne glanced at the door. The rubbish bin was far away from the house, and the servant on duty today had just left. It would take her a while to come back. âIâve got some in my room. Iâll take it for you.â
He put down his glass and walked to the stairs.
JAnna, following him, was a bit nervous when she walked into the master bedroom and unconsciously clenched her hands. She looked at Wayneâs back and shook her head to clear her mind from thoughts. What are you thinking?
âDo you need bath towel or facecloth? Come and have a look.â Wayne stood at the bathroom door and called her.
She quickly walked over, âBoth.â
There were neat stacks of towels in the cupboard near the washbasin. Anna first took two bath towels but didnât find the facecloths on the layer below. It seemed that they were on the layer above her. She tiptoed to reach the facecloths, but it was difficult for her since she wasnât tall enough.
A hand was suddenly reached out over her head, and she heard a deep voice in the darkness, âTwo?â
She nodded in a daze, not knowing whether he saw her. She just felt that the shadow that covered her was darker.
Wayne took the facecloths and when he lowered his head he met Annaâs wandering eyes, which were sparkling in the darkness.
His heart beat, but his hands stopped.
In the dim light of the bathroom, Wayneâs action of taking the towel was more like intimately holding her in his arms from behind.
Anna felt that the temperature of the room had risen a little in this romantic atmosphere.
She breathed heavily and caught a whiff of the cologne on his body. She couldnât resist taking a sniff of it. He smells good.
âMr. Wright...â A servant suddenly knocked at the door, breaking the romantic silence in the room.
Anna suddenly came to her senses and lowered her head to avoid Wayneâs straight gaze. She took a step back to keep a proper distance from him.
Wayne also came back to himself. He shot a displeased glance at the door, âWhatâs wrong?â
He handed the facecloths to Anna.
Anna contained her emotions and took them in embarrassment, her heart still beating fast as if they were going to pop out of her chest. This is weird.
âI just went to the guest room. Ms. Gabrielâs daughter was alone in the bathroom. She asked where her mommy went. I have looked around the house but didnât find her.â
Anna quickly looked at Wayne. Before she stopped him, he had walked out of the bathroom calmly and answered, âSheâs here with me.â
There was a moment of silence outside the room.
