Three years passed quickly.
Anna had just returned home from work when she learned that Jasper and Isabella were getting married. It was the hospitalâs busiest time, and Anna had to work until midnight almost every day.
When Anna returned home in the evening, she heard Wayne telling the maid to prepare her something to eat. Anna was both surprised and moved. As she was about to remove her coat, Wayne grabbed her hand tightly, saying, âYour hands are cold! Why didnât you wear the gloves | bought you?â
âIsnât the project research that Matthew devised supposed to last a month? â Anna asked Wayne, who was standing beside her.
âWhat happened to Matthew? Did you just leave him there?â
âYes.â With that, Wayne took Annaâs hand and sat on the couch with her. He appeared unconcerned as if he didnât care about the project.
âHuh? Even if he is capable, he is only fifteen! Heâs...â Anna attempted to reason with him, which was something she had wanted to do for a long time.
âJasper is getting married,â Before Anna could continue her reasoning, Wayne interrupted her with the shocking news.
Hearing that, Anna was so shocked that she forgot what she was going to say. She froze for a moment before regaining her composure and asking, âWhat?!â
Wayne picked up two lovely invitations from the coffee table, saying, â| just got the invitations. Theyâre getting married this weekend.â 507 My Adoptive Daughter Marr. It wasnât until saw Jasperâs handwriting on the invitations that she regained her composure and accepted the reality. She muttered, âAre they in such a rush to marry? Isabella hasnât even finished college yet.â
Wayne laughed and rubbed Annaâs fingers gently. Her hands frequently hurt from holding scalpels while working, so he had become accustomed to massaging her fingers.
âIf it werenât for you, Jasper would have gotten married to Isabella two years ago.â
âWell, Isabella had just turned 18 back then. I donât think she fully grasped what it meant to get married. And | donât think she was capable of shouldering the responsibility at such a young age. And as her adoptive parent, Iâm responsible for guiding her when necessary. Whatâs wrong with that?â Looking up at Wayne, Anna asked. Although she was retorting his words, her tone was not firm, as if she couldnât defend herself either.
âThereâs nothing wrong with it, honey. You have every right to feel worried about Isabella. But donât worry. Jasper is a good person and he will handle everything properly. He must have given the matter careful thought before making his decision,â Wayne said gently as he held her close and stroked her hair.
âIâm not worried about Isabella. Sheâs still a young lady, you know. But Jasper is a very simple person.â Anna began to tell Wayne what she knew about Jasper, unaware he seemed upset and even became envious and hugged her even more tightly.
âAre you worried that Jasper will be unhappy when he marries?â
âYeah, |...â Anna had not finished her sentence when she realized she had said something inappropriate. She raised her head to survey Wayneâs expression, blinked, and said, âWhat are you thinking about? Iâm his friend!
Iâm just worried about his future.â 507 My Adoptive Daughter Marr.
âOh? Is that true?â
âOf course!â
Before she could finish her sentence, Annaâs phone rang. Her eyes lit up when she saw the caller ID because she knew she had found the perfect reason to leave here. She immediately stood up and said, âPeace is calling me! Iâm going to answer the phone, honey.â
After that, she pressed the answer button. Peace greeted Anna with a loud laugh as soon as she picked up the phone.
âWhatâs the problem? You scared the hell out of me;â Anna quickly put the phone away from her ear and asked.
âDid you receive the invitation?*â
âYou mean Jasperâs invitation?â Anna asked, glancing at the invitation on the coffee table.
âAh! You appear to have gotten it.â Peace continued to laugh.
âWhatâs so funny about that?â Anna asked, thinking, Gee! Peace, do you have to make such a big deal about it? Everyone knows Jasper and Isabella have been in a relationship for over three years and that things are going well. Even if they donât marry right away, they will marry someday.
Peace suppressed her laughter, took a deep breath, and then asked calmly, âNo, Iâm not laughing at their marriage. | just thought the wedding might be interesting. In fact, | have wanted to ask you a question for quite some time.â
âWhat question?â
âHow do you feel about attending the wedding of your ex-husband and your adoptive daughter?â
With an awkward expression, Anna looked at Wayne beside her and 507 My Adoptive Daughter Marr, noticed that he had become even more upset. He still looked at her as calmly as he could, though Then Anna thought, Peace, will you shut up! What is the point of bringing this up? Wayne still minds the fact that | once got married to Jasper. Iâm screwed! Heâll be pissed again.
Not realizing she had said something wrong, Peace continued, âDonât you see how complicated this situation is? You are Jasperâs first wife, and Isabella is his third wife. And you are Isabellaâs adoptive mother, which makes you Jasperâs mother-in-
law. And now youâre both Jasperâs ex-wife and mother-in-law.â
At the mention of that, Peace became increasingly excited and even began to laugh again.
Anna was embarrassed and said angrily, âStop it, would you? Itâs not funny:â Then Anna immediately hung up the phone âWayne, Peace is talking nonsense. Just ignore what she said, okay?â Anna said cautiously, looking up at Wayne.
âActually, | donât mind that at all.â
âHuh? Really?â
Wayne said as he sipped his water slowly, âJasper is your ex-husband, so Peace is telling the truth. Itâs nothing because nothing happened between you and him. | donât care about that, honey. So, relax.â
Anna chuckled and said, âOf course! How could you be mad at me for something like that? | married Jasper back then because |
had no choice, and it was all for our daughter. Youâre not angry, are you, Honey?â
âIâm not,â Wayne admitted weakly.
At that point, the maid emerged from the kitchen carrying a plate of food and said, âIâve made you something to eat, Mrs. Wright.
Do you want 507 My Adoptive Daughter Marr, to eat right now? I...â Before she could finish her sentence, she heard Annaâs voice from the living room.
âAh! Wayne! Let go of me. Iâm sorry.â
By the time Anna realized what Wayne was doing to her, Wayne had already taken her to their bedroom on the second floor.
Wayne realized he couldnât stay angry at her all the time. He would, however, âpunishâ her in bed slightly.
With the plate in her hand, The maid stood at the kitchen door with a resigned smile on her face. It happened so often that she was used to it. And she knew she had to reheat Annaâs meal later as it would take quite a while for Anna and Wayne to have their fun in their bedroom.
