Veer woke up suddenly feeling heaviness in his chest. He breathed furiously looking at the ceiling with teary eyes.
After a minute, he felt a slight movement beside him. He slowly turned his head to see Preet sleeping beside him hugging his arm.
He turned on his side and stared at her beautiful peaceful face and unconsciously his lips curved into a small smile.
He pulls her gently to him and hugs her close, feeling home in her warmth. He placed his lips on her hair and sighs, closing his eyes.
It has been a week since Veer joined a company while Preet is taking care of the house as there are lots of things to be done in the house but she fills up the grocery when Veer got half of his salary amount in advance.
"Veer eat something then get ready," Preet said, looking at him running around the room in hurry collecting his things as he is getting late for work.
"Preet I don't have time, love. Call me if you need something from the market. See you and take care," he gave her a quick peck on her cheek and ran out of the house without having his breakfast.
She looked at him through the window. He was standing beside the road and waiting for the auto while looking at his watch. She sighs looking at his breakfast plate which has bread butter and a cup of coffee.
When she looked outside the window, he was not there anymore.
Taking a deep breath she went to the kitchen to clean it as in hurry she made it messy.
She was sitting on the stairs in the garden after eating her lunch. Suddenly a ball fell in the garden from her neighboring house.
She frowned with a smile on her face and walked to it and took the colorful ball in her hands.
"Auntyâ¦" She heard a cute voice. And turn her head to see a cute girl around 4 or 5 years old.
She tried to peek from the boundary that separates their houses.
As Preet looked at her while she was grinning cutely at her. Preet chuckled at her cuteness.
"Aunty, that is my ball," she sheepishly said, pointing to the ball in Preet's hands.
"I was playing with it but it flew away. Sorry Aunty," she cutely apologized, making Preet aww at her good manners and cute face.
Preet walk near her and softly asked,
"What's your name princess?" Preet asked.
The little smile and said,
"Ridhi,"
"Wow! Such a beautiful name for a beautiful girl. Here is your ball, dear," Ridhi smiled widely and took her ball.
"Thank you, pretty Aunty," as she said Preet looked at her in amusement and chuckled as she ruffled her hair.
Ridhi giggles loudly and runs inside her house after waving at her.
There was affectionate smile on Preet face as she shake her head at the little girl and turn to go inside. But suddenly her smile fell thinking she may never be able to hear the cute giggling in her home. A tear fell from her left eyes which she quickly wiped.
She closed her eyes and told herself not to think much about it.
"Coming!!!" Preet shouts as she comes out of the kitchen hearing the doorbell.
She smiles beautifully seeing Veer as she opens the door. His face is red and sweaty due to hot weather. She took the vegetable bag from him after opening the door fully.
She ran into the kitchen with vegetables while Veer sat on the sofa tiredly and fanned himself as it was really hot outside.
"Here," Veer opens his eyes and looks at her holding a glass of water for him.
"Thank you," he took the glass and gulped down the cold water which instantly cooled him down.
She sat beside and gently wiped his sweat with her dupatta, he stared at her then slowly a smile formed on his lips. Pull her closer by her waist to which she just let out a soft giggle while lightly patting her dupatta on his neck.
"I so wanted to kiss you right but I need to shower first," he said in a low voice, making her cheek turn red in shyness.
"Let me shower first. I feel dirty and sticky due to sweat," she nodded at him and said,
"Till then I will arrange our dinner," he walked upstairs to their room.
Veer walked in the small dining area, that is between kitchen and living room, and saw Preet heating up the curry in the kitchen.
He smiles slightly and walks behind her and back hugs her. Preet turned to him with her eyes narrowed playfully at him.
"Veer! Let me do my work," she said while turning her attention back to curry and turning off the stove.
Suddenly he picked her and place on the counter making her squeal. Then he keeps his hands on either side of her.
"What are you doing, Veer!?"
She fakes glare at him but he just laughs at her and pecks her nose softly which melt her instantly.
"Nothing just admiring my beautiful wife because I missed her so much today," she bite her lower lip to control herself from smiling widely at his sweet words. He is so good with his words.
"I miss you too. You know I feel so bored and alone without you," she said a little sadly and pouted.
He smiles at her and kisses her pout a few times. She tried hard not to smile but still, her lips curved a little.
"Why don't you apply for a job then?" he suggested to which she shook her head while looking at his shirt button and fidgeting with it.
"Bhi nhi, I wanted to take a break for sometime. I will apply when I feel like," she softly to which he nodded.
"Whatever you want," he said and kissed her head before he moved back from her.
She looks at him as he serves food for both of them on a plate while she is just sitting on the kitchen counter and swinging her legs like a kid.
He asks her to hold the plate for him and fill a glass of water for them.
While standing in front of her, he first fed her. She gave him a cute smile. He then himself takes a bite of Dal Chawal. They finish their dinner with little talk and jokes in between.
He felt happier here with her. Even the expensive and luxurious meal of the world-class restaurant couldn't beat this basic food that his wife made with so much love.
After dinner, they were sitting in the garden for some fresh air. A slow wind is blowing, making Preet snuggle more to him.
"Now this garden is looking beautiful like before," Veer whispered looking at the green grass all over the garden.
His Mumma love greenery and flowers. This garden used to filled with colorful flowers and fresh green grass.
"This is where I spend my time. Can you bring some flower plants next month? It will look more pretty with flowers, right?" Preet asked to look up at him from his chest with her evergreen smile.
Veer looked surprised before he chuckled slightly thinking he was not wrong when he said she is so much like his Mumma.
"Okay," he nodded and hid her in his arms, making her laugh and she cuddled into his chest like a baby.
"Let's just stay like this forever," he whispered in his soft voice.
"I love you," she mutters with a smile and closes her eyes, feeling his soothing heartbeat against her chest as she is lying above him.
Veer looked at her face which was glowing like a moon, under the starry night and kissed her side of head lovingly before tightening his arms around her.
Veer was standing in the plant nursery looking at the various flower plants. He smiles at his thoughts of seeing the beautiful smile of his wife.
While he was busy selecting flower plants, suddenly a car stopped and Sumitra came out of it royally.
She smirks looking at him who has a confused frown on his face as he was confused between sunflower and daisy.
"My goodness see who we have here," she said in a fake surprised voice walking toward him.
Veer turned, hearing a loud voice as the voice seemed familiar. But as Sumitra's face comes in front of him a sudden anger rises up inside him.
She is the first person he hated with the bottom of his heart. Not because she made him leave his family and everything but because from his childhood she humiliated him and cursed him and his mother for something he has never done.
She is the reason why he is always so revered and cold. She always used to make him feel guilty and unworthy with her cruel words. He was just a little boy when she told him the truth of his birth when he didn't even know the meaning of her disgusting words.
Till now he felt the pain of being the reason for his parent's death. He will never forget the words she used to call him and his dead Mumma when no one was around.
How she blames him for being the reason for her daughter's death. How come a little 5-year-old took this much when he was grieving over his dead parent?
He looked at her with his burning gaze but she let out a chuckle.
"Akkad nhi gyi abhi tak. Don't worry old habits die hard," she states and lightly patted his cheek.
He steps back from glaring at her. He was about to go away when she stopped him.
"By the way, how is my sweet Preet?" she said in her extra sweet voice.
"None of your business," he said, gritting his teeth, making her smile evilly.
"Arre, I am just worried for her. It must be really difficult for her, right? Poor girl," she said making a fake sad face but her voice was saying otherwise.
"Please leave us alone now. Your daughter is happy in her life then let us also live in peace," he said, getting irritated with her.
She huffed at him and suddenly her eyes turned angry.
"Peace? You are not getting that, at least, not in this life, Veer. I will assure you. After snatching my peace you think you will be happy, huh?" she said angrily.
He looks at her not getting what she really wants from him. He gave up everything.
"Let me tell you a secret, dear. You will love it," she whispered to him with an evil smirk on her face.
He felt his heartbeat rise looking at her eyes which were filled with hatred and evilness.
"I am sure your dear wife didn't tell you this," he now felt scared when she mentioned Preet.
He is sure if she did anything bad to Preet. He won't leave her. He has had enough of her.
Then she said something that pierced his heart and shocked him to his core. His mind couldn't process anything after hearing her words.
"Do you know, your Preet can never become a mother even if she wants to,"Â she smirks as she utters those words.
