Calm
The old man looked at Lian Jing with a smile. He knew his own grandson best.
The way Lian Jing hurried to explain and the way he looked unhappy when he heard what she said could only mean one thing. Lian Jing liked this girl.
But he could tell that this girl had a mind of her own. If he tried to meddle, it would probably ruin things.
He smiled and patted Shen Yinâs shoulder. âLittle girl, Iâve been in business for many years. Do you know what is the first principle I learned?â
Shen Yin had a good impression of this old man. He was amiable and did not put on airs. He was completely different from that domineering fellow, Lian Jing.
âI would love to hear it.â Shen Yin lowered her hackles and seriously asked Old Master for advice.
The old man retracted his hand and sighed. âI once suffered a huge loss. I was young and arrogant and almost lost the entire Lian Family fortune. I paid a huge price to understand this principle. In life and in business, donât go to extremes. Fortunes rise and fall.â
âGrandpa, I understand what youâre trying to say.â Shen Yin lowered her eyes and accepted the lesson. It was not difficult to guess the purpose behind Old Masterâs words, but after repeatedly turning these words over in her mind, she suddenly realized that she really did treat Lian Jing very differently.
When it came to dealing with people and events, she had always been humble and calm. She could even be a little too cold when dealing with things, but she would not go so far as to act hostilely.
But ever since she met Lian Jing, his existence had completely broken her usual principles of interpersonal interactions. She became like a hedgehog, always pointing her spikes at him. When he approached, she became paranoid.
She looked meaningfully at Lian Jing and turned to face Old Master. She said sincerely, âThank you for your guidance, Grandpa, but itâs getting late. My son is still waiting for me at home. Iâm very worried about the child being alone at home, so I have to go. Please forgive me for not keeping you company.â
Son?
The old man looked at Lian Jing, but the latter did not react.
That could only mean that he already knew that Shen Yin had a son.
A pity.
The old man leaned back in the hospital bed in disappointment. He knew Lian Jingâs temperament. It was impossible for him to be take on a stepson.
It seemed that the two of them really were not meant to be together.
âYou can visit me often in the future. You saved me, so Iâll treat you like my own granddaughter. If thereâs anything Lian Jing canât do, you can look for me.â Old Master reluctantly took Shen Yinâs hand and gave her a few more instructions before angrily pointing at Lian Jing, who was standing by at the door.
âWhat are you standing there for? Hurry up and see Little Yin off.â
Lian Jing hurriedly nodded in agreement. Grandpa had just met Shen Yin. But for some reason, his status in Grandpaâs heart seemed to have plummeted?
At the entrance of the hospital, Lian Jing waved away the troublesome chauffeur and personally drove Shen Yin home.
When they were waiting at a red light, he turned to look at Shen Yin meaningfully and said without rhyme or reason, âI guess weâve met the parents.â
â?â Shen Yin turned her head away from him. âYouâre thinking too much. Grandpa said he treats me like his own granddaughter, so you and I canât have an incestuous relationship.â
âA granddaughter-in-law is also a granddaughter.â Unconcerned, Lian Jing pressed his foot on the accelerator. His fingers repeatedly fiddled with the steering wheel. âDo you hate me?â
This question made Shen Yin choke.
Did she hate him?
Apart from being domineering when they first met, this person had always been very gentlemanly.
âNo, but I donât like you either,â she replied coolly.
âAs long as you donât hate me.â Lian Jing deliberated before continuing. âSo did you like the boy that you were with tonight?â
Shen Yin was speechless. âHeâs a child.â
Lian Jing was obviously in a good mood. âAfter Grandpa is discharged from the hospital, he wants to hold a family banquet to celebrate. Iâll pick you up then.â
âWhy should I go to your family banquet?ân/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
âRemember, youâre Grandpaâs granddaughter.â Lian Jing deliberately emphasized the last words. Shen Yin could not find a reason to refuse.
Lian Jing turned the steering wheel with one hand and turned his head to look at her. âDonât worry, Iâll let you know in advance. If youâre not working, come and have dinner with us.â
âOkay.â Shen Yin nodded, her cheeks red. She did not say anything else.
The car drove slowly to the unit. Shen Yin could not wait to open the door. She felt as if she might ignite if she stayed in the same space as Lian Jing any longer.
âHey.â Lian Jing suddenly stopped her and grabbed her arm. His dark eyes glowed in the night. âThank you for coming to see Grandpa. Good night.â
