Hey lovelies!
So we hit 2 million reads!!!! WOOHOO!!! I can hardly believe it, I remember when this book hit 1k and I wasn't sure it was really going to take off before then and now we're on 2M!!!
Thank you so much everyone for your love and support I really appreciate it.
Here's another chapter, and this is taking place from the 'flash forward' sequence and this is where we'll be continuing the rest of our story :)
I'm trying to push these chapters out more frequently and I'm also trying to stretch them a bit so we don't finish so soon. Don't know how well I'm doing but I'm doing it.
Don't forget to send me your questions!! That chapter is coming up really soon and I want to have answers to everyone's questions! Send me absolutely anything!
Enjoy!
"It's a little too early to detect gender at this point in time as well as to check for any abnormalities, although if you come in again in a week or two we should be able to determine then... everything looks okay from what I can see here, but I can never be sure at this early stage," She smiled at the both of us warmly as we sat in her office and she finished off her notes.
Mason was holding my hand in my lap and the smile he'd been wearing during the scan had only slightly diminished from his face.
"Is there anything we can be doing at the moment, special foods, drinks and so on?" He asked, going into bio-business mode.
The doctor tapped her chin with her pen as she thought.
"Well, not all women get cravings though a lot do," She started but I interrupted her with a snort.
"This morning I wanted Nutella pasta... I have a feeling I'm in the latter,"
Her mouth twitched in humour as she continued, "try to eat as healthy as you can, but don't stress too much if you do give into your cravings, remember, you're eating for two,"
Mason drove us back to our flat after the appointment so I could text Mel and give her all the details.
We'd been given a photo of the ultrasound like an old Polaroid and I continuously stared at it the whole ride home.
"James," I offered, as I examined the card.
"Isabelle?" He returned and I shook my head vigoursly with a sigh.
"It's okay, we've still got plenty of time to figure out a name,"
"About that," he started, tapping his fingers on the steering wheel, "I don't want to know the gender, you can if you want but just don't tell me,"
"Thank god you said that, cause I don't want to know either," I sighed in relief, closing my phone and propping my leg up to watch him while he drove.
"Also, I had a thought," I picked at my fingernails, "where are we gonna put all the baby stuff?"
"What do you mean?" He questioned, squinting against the glare of the sun.
"Well, there's the spare room but where will I Claire stay after her surgery?" I asked, my eyebrows pulling together involuntarily in concern.
"Oh right, I didn't even think about that," he pulled into the right lane carefully, checking the mirror as he went.
"Well, we could always move in with dad-"
"I don't think he'd be very happy with his pregnant daughter and boyfriend moving in with him especially while he and Pamela are there..." he trailed off, side eyeing me whilst cringing.
"Ew no stop, I'd rather walk if that what's you're gonna discuss," my face puckered up as though I'd eaten a lemon.
We were enjoying the silence for a little while longer when I was distracted by a bright blue car weaving in and out of traffic a few cars up.
"Watch out for that guy," I pointed towards he traffic and Mason nodded, his lips in a tight line as he checked his mirrors frequently looking for a space to move over to.
"Yeah I saw him a few cars back. It's so damn busy right now, why does everyone want to go out at lunch time!?" He grunted in frustration.
I sat up a little straighter as the blue car swerved a little in it's lane as it searched for an opening. Nearly cutting off the car next to it, once there was a gap it slipped in cause the lane to slam on the breaks.
"That guy is gonna cause an accident," muttered Mason so I pulled out my phone and zoomed in with the camera to take a picture of its licence plate.
"We'll report it to the police if he doesn't get caught now, he'll kill someone if he doesn't start driving sensibly."
We watched as he continued to drive recklessly. He was now four cars in front of us on the left and when he cut into our lane, Mason was forced to hit the brakes causing us to shoot forward in our seats.
He immediately shot his gaze to my stomach like he could see through my skin to jellybean.
He wasn't the only one punching the horn either. I could see him getting worked up, his ears were turning slightly pink and his lips were screwed up tight, not to mention the building muscles of his arms as he restrained himself from punching the steering wheel.
"Mason," I murmured gently, touching my fingers to his arm with feather light touch. "Come on, if you get into the left hand lane and take the next left we can take the long way home."
Swallowing hard, he nodded without saying a word as he regained somewhat of his composure to continue our journey home.
"Go jump on the couch, I'll bring you a cup of tea," He muttered once we entered the apartment, tossing my keys on the bench. He was still frustrated, I could tell from how silent he'd been the rest of the way home.
Why though? Yeah, there are annoying drivers everywhere and ones that potentially endanger your lives but when you're driving you have to learn to let go of what happened and move on.
I thought better than to tell him that, so I kept my mouth shut and let his passive anger swirl around us in the car. I know he wasn't angry at me, but I didn't like it when he was angry either way.
"It's okay, I can do it." I started, making my way to the kitchen but he grasped my shoulders gently and guided me towards the lounge room.
Yes, I liked the fact that he was happy to do small things like that for me but I had the feeling that ever since he'd found out about the baby he'd been swaddling me, doing this and that for me whenever I mentioned I needed something or wanted something.
"No, it's okay, I'll do it." He tapped my toosh gently to push me along and normally it would make me laugh, but this thought haunted me for some reason.
He came in a moment later with with a jar of peanut butter and some carrot sticks, and my cup of tea.
"Mason," I began, reaching for the mug he was holding out to me.
"Yes, sweetheart?" He sat down beside me and the couch took a dip forcing me to hold my mug outwards so it didn't scold me.
"You don't need to wrap me in bubble wrap you know," I tried to be lighthearted so it wouldn't start an argument but I'm not sure I was entirely successful.
"I'm sorry, I just worry that everything little thing is going to have some catastrophic event attached to it... and stress isn't good for the baby," he sighed, resting his elbows on his knees and gazing at me through his lashes.
"No, it's okay, I understand completely, but I can do things. Up until the third trimester I can still do crazy shit like rock climbing, mountain bike riding, and believe it or not," I leaned in as though I were telling a secret, "I can even make myself a cup of tea," I chuckled and he smiled kindly before dismissing the emotion from his face.
"I know, I'm sorry. I just... I just want to make sure jellybean is safe," I snuggled into his side forcing him to lean back and wrap his arms around me.
"I understand, really I do. You know, sometimes I think that maybe he's not really there... maybe it's because I can't yet see my belly growing or haven't really seen him but sometimes I'm not sure."
"What does it feel like?" He questioned after a pause, kissing the top of my head.
"Right now? Well, it doesn't really feel like anything, although my boobs are so painful sometimes I can barely even move, in the morning I feel like vomming everywhere, I have a headache every now and then, and I feel bloated. Like I'm holding in a massive fart."
I giggled at his shocked expression. "Sorry, too much information?" I asked, winking at him.
"No... it's just... I have the same symptoms!" He cried, causing me to grasp my belly from laughter.
