Milly forced a friendly smile and asked, âHow about I give you money? How much do you want?â
George glanced at her indifferently and retorted. âDo you think Iâd want money?â
His eyes carried a subtle disdain, mocking how ridiculous her suggestions were.
Milly bit her lip. Indeed, he didnât need money.
âWhen I become famous, Iâll endorse your familyâs products for free. How about this?â
George took a sip of his coffee and turned to her with a fake smile. He asked, âDo you think my family lacks influential actresses?â
Milly was unsure what else to say.
No to this, no to that; dealing with a man in his midlife crisis was indeed difficult.
Gritting her teeth, she decided to drop her pretense and show her claws. She pointed out, âSecretly taking photos is illegal. I can sue you for violating my image rights. Even a royalty have to obey the law.â
She spoke with conviction and righteousness.
Anyone else speaking to George like this would have vanished from Adonio.
But this was Milly.
He found her cute. Someone as adorable as her should be bold and fearless, afraid of nothing.
However, he remained composed on the surface and suggested, âYou can try suing me. Letâs see if any court dares to take the case.â
Milly wasnât foolish; she knew that with Georgeâs status, no one would dare provoke him.
She couldnât win this battle.
But she couldnât swallow her pride.
In her past life, sheâd never suffered such humiliation in the entertainment industry. This was a first.
âSpeak! What do you want?â Milly asked.
George looked at her with hints of amusement in his eyes. Knowing he shouldnât push her too far, he got straight to the point.
âSimple. Thereâs a gala night in a few days, and I need a date.â
Milly didnât believe him for a second. She frowned at the suggestion and rebuked, âYou need a date? Who are you kidding?!â
Everyone knew George was the most soughtâafter bachelor in their circle. Every socialite and noblewoman wanted to be near him.

George agreed, âI donât lack ordinary dates. I need someone who understands boundaries and wonât overstep them. As someone from a prestigious family, you should understand what I mean.
Milly began to understand.
In high society, appearances were deceiving, as everyone was in harmony. Behind the scenes, everything was about interests. George was at the top of the interest chain. Everyone wanted a piece of him.
The same logic applied to his dates. They also wanted a piece of the pie. Those who got money were the good ones, but some were even greedier, and cash alone couldnât satisfy them.
Finding a date who understood the boundaries was indeed important.
Seeing her with her head bowed, lost in thought, George decided to add more fuel to the fire. He said. âAt these gatherings, itâs inevitable to run into various elders. If you donât have a date, theyâll forcibly match you up with someone. Itâs hard to avoid because theyâre elders, but itâs truly bothersome.
âOur relationship is purely transactional. You helped me avoid unnecessary trouble, and Iâll delete your video. Itâs an equal exchange.â
Hearing this, Milly couldnât help but nod. It seemed like a fair deal.
But something still felt off. It was as if she was falling into a trap.
âAre you serious? Is it really just about having me as your date for this one time? Or do you have some other agenda?â
George shrugged, and he looked indifferent. âI remember telling you before that, since you disagree with our eldersâ arranged engagement, I wonât force it,â he said. âYou are only my fiancée in name, even though you canât take off this bracelet for the time being. However, for now, we can simply communicate as friends within our respective families.
âOf course, you can remain suspicious. I could always send the video to Jordan and see how much heâd compensate me for my emotional distress. You know Iâm a businessman, not a philanthropist.â
Milly quickly interjected, âNo, no, I believe you.â
If Jordan saw that video, how would he think of her?
Thinking it over, she realised George had a point. Given his stature, this man had no reason to entangle himself with a minor like her.
âAlright, I promise you. Iâll be your date for the event, and youâll delete the video as per our agreement,â Milly said.
George nodded and said, âDeal,â
After all, we needed to boil a frog slowly. Hot water would only make it jump away.

In the back seat. Danny was updating George on the companyâs progress, occasionally handing him documents to sign.
Milly quietly watched the scenery pass by.
After handling the important tasks, Danny finally spoke about the immediate situation.
âBoss. I just liaised with Nealâs manager. He doesnât have many scenes in this movie and can transition directly to the next one. Thereâs another production by our Tate Group riext to the studio. Should we arrange for him to join?â
Milly was about to yawn out of boredom when she choked on hearing this.
He mean, Neal could get a role through connections?
Ignoring the ethical implications, it was undoubtedly beneficial for an actorâs career.
George declined flatly. He stated, âThere is no special treatment. Tate Group doesnât support deadweight.â
Danny said, âUnderstood, Boss.â
Milly was stunned; her eyes were wide.
This wouldnât do!
âCan I say something?â Milly asked weakly, then smiled flatteringly.
George glanced at her and said, âSpeak.â
âAhem!â Milly cleared her throat and spoke with a sense of righteousness. âActually, I think since we have this opportunity, thereâs no need to waste it. We can let Neal play the role. Honestly, I think heâs pretty good.â
It pained her to plead for someone else.
Sheâd never asked for any role for herself, yet here she was, begging George for something unimportant.
If it werenât for repaying Neal for saving her life, she wouldnât have bothered with this.
Georgeâs expression darkened as he listened.
