Chapter 30 Finding a Solution
Meanwhile, at the Spencerâs residence, Melanie was on a conference call. After hanging up, she looked hopefully at her mother and said excitedly. âMom, Stephanie said she will help us. Does this mean we wonât go bankrupt?â
Melanieâs mother, Emily Shaw, frowned, still feeling a bit worried.
She had encountered all types of people in her social circle. She always feels that the gentle and considerate best friend her daughter talks about is not a simple person.
If someone genuinely wanted to help their friends, their initial reaction upon hearing the news would be to urgently grasp the situation or try to help in any way possible. No matter which it is, there would definitely be emotional fluctuations. However, this girl was unusually quiet.
âMelanie, call her again and ask her if she is aware of our familyâs situation. Donât be too direct, just try to gather information indirectly,â Emily advised.
Melanie hesitated upon hearing her motherâs suggestion. âMom, Stephanie and I are very close. Since she promised to help us, she will definitely help us. Thereâs no need to ask again. I trust her.â
Just then, her phone buzzed with an audio message from an unknown number.
She was about to delete it, but Emily intervened. âOpen it and listen.â
Melanie mumbled, âIsnât this a prank?â However, seeing Emilyâs serious expression, she obediently opened the message.
In an instant, the clear conversation filled the quiet living room.
âMilly, Melanie posted your previous grades on the blog, and I only found out later that she also humiliated you on the blog. I didnât expect her jealousy to be so strong, to actually hurt you like this. If I had known earlier, I would have stopped her
The bet was not my idea either. She was just being reckless. Actually, my relationship with her is not good. at all. Weâre just purely classmates. I never thought she would involve me in the bet, creating a rift between us sisters. Sheâs really malicious. Milly, please donât be angry with me because of this bad girl, okay?â
âWho said we were good friends?â
âMilly, you may not know this since you just arrived, but the Spencer Group is nothing compared to our Burnell Group. She only approached me for her benefit. You also know we are classmates. I simply couldnât refuse.
The voice in the recording is the same as the female voice on the phone just now. Who else could it be besides Stephanie?
The audio was brief, but there was no background noise. Every word was clear.
Melanie was completely stunned. Her face turned pale instantly. What did I hear? Stephanie said I only approached her for my benefit. She didnât consider me her good friend? She even called me a bad girl? Everything was my faultâ¦.

The call was quickly answered. Stephanieâs clear and cheerful voice came through, âHi, Melanie. Is there something you need?â
âStephanie. you⦠âMelanie didnât know how to express the words, so she took a different approach, âHave you met Milly already? Did she say anything?â
Stephanic was taken aback. She had been so happy just now that she had forgotten about this. She replied, âUm⦠Iâll go see her later. You know we have the college entrance exam coming up, and thereâs so much homework from the teachers. I want to finish it before I go.â
âEven though our family has gone bankrupt because of you, you donât even care about this little request. Stephanie, are you still my best friend?â Melanie was surprised by how nonchalant she was. Her voice became sharper.
Stephanie frowned upon hearing the accusation. Her previously joyful mood from convincing Milly not to publicly apologise quickly turned sour.
She had always looked down on Melanie, never truly considering her a best friend. Sheâs the youngest daughter of the Burnetts, destined to inherit the family business and stand in the upper class of society. How could she be on the same level as the Spencers, who couldnât even compare to the threshold of a prestigious family?
They were never on the same level.
Stephanie couldnât help but sound a bit sarcastic, âMelanie, how could you say such things? It really hurts me to hear you say that. I will help you, but now we are about to take the college entrance examination. We are students and should prioritise our studies. How about this? Melanieâs chest heaved. She breathed heavily, trying to keep herself calm, and said, âNo, we canât wait until after the college entrance examination. Itâs still a month away!â
Stephanie didnât care about the urgency on the other end of the phone but instead rebuked, âMelanie, your aggressive attitude is really uncomfortable. Since you are in such a hurry, then I canât help you.â
With that, she hung up the phone.
The Spencer Group had gone bankrupt, and Melanie had no value to herself anymore. Even if she had to confront the situation headâon, she wasnât afraid, as she always had followers around her.
On the other end, after the phone call was abruptly ended, Melanie angrily threw her phone on the ground, and with a loud âbang, the screen shattered.
She covered her face and squatted on the sofa, crying uncontrollably. âHow could she do this? I really thought of her as my best friend. I did so much for her. She still said such things about me!â
Emily touched her hair lovingly and comforted, âDonât cry. Itâs not bad to see someone clearly through one thing. At least it proves that you have grown up.
âBut, Mom, what should I do? If Stephanie doesnât help us, our family will go bankruptâ¦
Emily narrowed her eyes, glanced at the shattered phone that Melanie had thrown on the ground, and said

Milly yawned as she entered the classroom.
In her previous life as an actress, she either filmed night scenes or rushed to complete scenes, often without time to rest. Now that she had finally transmigrated into an ordinary person through a book, she couldnât even rest because of the college entrance examination.

In short, it was very uncomfortable.
If she had known, she would have listened to Jordan and hired a driver so she wouldnât feel so uneasy going to school.
William was excited to see her coming and immediately went up to greet her, saying, âBoss, youâre finally here!â
