But It's Only Been a Week..
Nathan steps closer to me. His eyes stare into mine. "You're really special to me."
I nod my head slightly for him to continue.
"I love you," he says softly.
"Bullshit. Nathan that was terrible," I groan, running my fingers through my hair.
"What did I do this time?" He asks tiredly.
"You don't immediately say 'I love you'. You gotta build the suspense between you two before you actually say the special words," I explain to him. What we're doing right now is stupid, but I mean we're both stupid, so..
He let's out a tired groan. "Opal, we've been repeating this for almost an hour now."
"Do you wanna show this girl you love her or not?"
"Okay, okay. Just one more time," he mumbles.
I smile triumphantly. "Good."
We face each other again. He takes a step closer to me, his green eyes staring into my soul. "You're really special to me. Even just a glimpse at you and my heart beats faster."
For some reason, I find my face heating up.
"The way your hair sways when you walk," he continues. "The way you smile is just the cutest thing ever. Everything about you is just so fucking beautiful."
Even though I know these words aren't for me, I feel butterflies fluttering in my stomach.
"I love you."
And I end up staring at him speechless.
He raises his eyebrows at me. "Well?"
I bite my lip. "Uh, well. That was- that was great. Perfect.." I stutter.
He smiles. "Thanks, Minnie Mouse."
In return, I give him a weak smile.
"I'm home!" We hear Nathan's mom shout. "Help me with the groceries."
"Okay, Mom," Nathan replies.
I stand up. "I can help, too."
I follow him down to the front of the house, where groceries are laid on the floor.
"How's school today, sweetie?" Mrs. Adams asks tiredly, rushing into the kitchen with groceries in her hands.
"Pretty good, Mom."
~
I stand awkwardly in front of Nathan's house, waiting for him to walk out the door. I glance at me phone.
8:49 AM
"Hurry up," I mumble.
Just at the moment, I hear his door unlock, and out steps Nathan.
He stares at me with confusion. But it quickly disappears, and is replaced by a smirk. "Miss me?"
I let out a small laugh. "Shut up, you have a girlfriend. I just need a ride to school."
"Got it, Minnie Mouse," he says, grabbing my hand and leading me to his garage. He opens it and brings out his motorcycle.
He hands me his helmet.
"Thanks," I say, taking it. I adjust on my head, and hop on behind him.
"Ready?"
"Yep," I reply, wrapping my arms around his waist.
I feel his body tense, but I try to ignore it. He drives off the driveway, making our way to hell.
School. I meant school.
~
I hop off his bike, and make my way to the front of the school. "Thanks for the ride."
"No problem."
I make way inside, finding Bella walking out the cafeteria with..
Who the hell is that?
I make my way over to them, trying to seem as casual as possible. And once I get closer, the stranger's face looks very familiar.
"Princess?"
"Hey, Opal," she says, smiling at me.
"Uh, hey. So, why are you here?"
"I'm new," she replies.
"Her family is renting a place at the apartment near my house," Bella adds.
"Oh, wow. That's great," I say with a smile. "How's your sister?"
"She only stayed at the hospital for one night. Turns out she was just really dehydrated," she says. "She's okay now. It's her first day here, too."
"Oh, where is she?" I ask, looking around.
"In the bathroom," Bella says.
Princess looks around. "Oh, not anymore."
I turn to the direction that she's facing and a girl, a bit similar to Princess, catches my attention.
I study her as she makes our way to us. She has dirty blonde hair tied up into a bun and she's wearing a floral dress that goes down to her knees. As she approaches closer, I realize that her eyes are the same color as the sky.
"Hey, Robin," Princess calls out to her little sister.
Robin finally reaches us. She stares at me and Bella carefully.
"Hi, I'm Opal," I say, giving her a smile. "I actually drove you to the hospital the other day."
"Oh, thanks," Robin responds quietly.
The bell rings at that moment. "Oh, uh.. See you later," Bella calls at them, as we walk towards the stairs.
~
"But I didn't do anything.."
"Ms. Rodriguez, I want you to report to Mr. Tesla's office immediately," my teacher says in a stern voice, glaring at me with an intense stare.
I let out a groan and stand up quickly, causing the chair to screech against the floor.
Before leaving, I quickly stick my middle finger up at her and exit the room.
"Ms. Rodriguez!" I hear faintly, but I'm already halfway to Mr. Tesla's office.
I run my fingers through my hair, as I finally make it to the administrator's door, which is wide open.
I find that Mr. Tesla is already busy with another student, but I can only see the back of his head.
"How may I help you, Opal?" Mr. Tesla asks.
At the sound of my name, the student's head turns around, and I find out it's Nathan.
Of course it's Nathan.
"Uh, I was sent in by Ms. Pinton," I mumble.
Mr. Tesla notices something on his computer screen, and turns his attention to it.
After a few moments, he nods his head and turns back to me. "You were disturbing the class, Ms. Rodriguez?"
"I wasn't, I just wanted my dictionary back," I explain.
He let's out a sigh, and gestures to me to take seat beside Nathan.
I roll my eyes and slump onto the chair.
We hear a phone ring, and Mr. Tesla answers it. "Hello, this is Mr. Tesla speaking."
Nathan turns to me, with a smirk on his face. "So, Minnie Mouse was disturbing the class?" he asks quietly.
"I said I was just trying to get my dictionary back," I mumble.
"What did you get in for?" I ask.
"Do you really want to know?"
"Why do you think I asked you?" I reply. "Oh. By the way, how did it go with Heather?"
He scratches the back of his head. "She's kinda the reason why I'm here," he mumbles.
"Keep you voices down, I'm on the phone," Mr. Tesla says.
I turn back to Nathan. "Really? What happened?" I whisper.
"You two stay here," Mr. Tesla says, "I'm need to head down to the office for a moment."
"Okay," I say.
Right when he exits, I turn my gaze back to Nathan. "Tell me what happened."
He takes in a deep breath and slowly let's it out. "Heather was cheating on me."
I just stare at him with wide eyes. "Oh, I'm- I'm sorry."
He let's out a small laugh. "It's okay."
"Wait, it's only been a week, though."
"Yea," he replies, and I can't tell whether he sounded calm or sad.
"So, who was it with?" I ask quietly.
"Toby Fucking Linden."
I let out a laugh. "Oh, that bitch."
He turns to me, giving me a smile. "I was planning to look for her during home room to tell her- you know. But I couldn't find her. I ask for a bathroom pass to text her, but I find them in the hallway..."
He stops and let's out a sigh. "Well, you know what happens next," he says.
"I ended up causing a scene, which landed Tony in the nurses office," he adds.
I nod my head slowly. "You good?"
"I'm good, Minnie Mouse."
~
Bella and I make our way to our table, with my lunch in my hands. But, we don't find our table empty.
Instead, we find random people in each of the seats.
"Uh, excuse me. This is our table," I say.
One of them look up. "Just find another one."
"We sit here everyday, though."
"Well, I don't give a shit. Find another table," he says, and turns back to his food.
I let out a sigh. "C'mon, Bella. Let's go to Nathan's table."
Both of us head to his table and immediately take a seat.
Will looks up at us. "Welcome to our table, ladies."
"Thanks," I say. "Sorry for just dropping in like this."
"It's good, fam," Derek says, keeping his eyes on his phone. "Feel free to sit here whenever you like."
I look at Nathan's direction, and spot the cup of fruits on his tray. "You gonna eat that?"
He looks up from his phone. "Eat what?"
"Your fruit cup thing."
"Take it," he replies.
I quickly grab it and place it on my tray. "Thanks," I say, smiling.
But the smile quickly fades away when I see some random girl walk up to Nathan from behind.
She wraps her arms around his neck. "So I heard you're single now," I hear her whisper.
I turn back to my food, but try not to make it obvious that I'm looking at them.
I watch Nathan's lips curve into a smirk. "I am, babe. Why, got something in mind?"
Uh, ew.
Even though I know I'm on the verge of puking my breakfast, I can't help but watch.
"My house. My parents won't be home tonight," she says into his ear. "Text me."
And she walks away. I watch her glance at me, and she looks at me with a proud look.
She left a little piece of paper on Nathan's tray.
"Damn. Get some, Nate," Will says to him, smirking back at him. "That was Bianca Lopes. She's a sophomore, but she's hot as fuck."
"Uh, I'm trying to eat here," I mumble, keeping my eyes on my food.
Will let's out a laugh. "Don't worry, red. I find you smoking, too."
I look up at him and he gives me a wink.
I roll my eyes and look away, while Nathan and Will continue laughing about whatever shit they're talking about.
~
I walk outside towards Gemma's car. She's waiting inside, texting on her phone.
"Hey," she says, as I sit beside her. "Ready?"
"I'm always ready to leave here," I say.
She starts the engine and backs out the parking space, and we make our way home.
"I heard Nathan is single now," she says, keeping her eyes on the road.
"Yep," I mumble.
"Well, aren't you gonna make your move?"
I look at her. "Excuse me?"
"You heard me," she says. "Make your move on that boy."
"Why would I want to? He's just a friend to me."
"Sure," Gemma says.
We finally arrive home, and she parks her car on the driveway. We both hop out and make our way to the front door.
I travel upstairs to my room and shut the door. I take a look outside my window, seeing Nathan's motorcycle isn't outside his house yet.
Probably at Bianca's house.
I let out a sigh and fall onto my bed. I take out my phone.
Me: heyy

I run my fingers through my hair.
"Just take a nap and forget everything that happened," I tell quietly to myself.
