The Drunk Sister
I walk into the school, struggling to keep my eyes open.
I had the best dream ever, and I can't even remember it. All I know, is that it was a good dream.
I step into the building, immediately noticing the school staff decorating the atrium, reminding me that it's October. I make my way to the stair case and head to the second floor.
I walk over to my locker. "Opal!"
I turn my head to Bella's voice, and I find her running towards me.
Once she reaches me, she tries to catch her breath. "Can I borrow-" she takes a deep breath, "your history notebook?"
"Uh, classwork or homework?" I ask tiredly.
"Homework," she replies, and I dig through my bag, looking for my green notebook. Finally, I grab it out, and hand it to her.
"Thanks, best friend," she says, giving me a hug. "I'll give it back during home room. Love you!"
I watch her run down the hall with my notebook, and I turn back to my locker.
I reach my hand to put in my combination, when a hand slams onto my locker, keeping me from opening it.
"Look, bitch," I say tiredly, as I close my eyes and slowly turn to this piece of shit. "I'm fucking tired as hell, and I don't feel like dealing with your bull-"
My eyes widen slightly, making me forget that I'm supposed to be so freaking tired.
I find that the hand on my locker, belonged to Nathan.
And he looks really annoyed. "Why did you text me last night?" He asks harshly.
I stare at him in shock for a few moments. I have no idea what I'm supposed to say, so I stay quiet.
He raises his eyebrow at me, expecting me to answer.
"It- it was just a joke," I stutter, giving him a small smile.
"A joke?" He asks, looking at me to see if I'm actually being serious. "Opal, she told me to leave her house once I got out of the bathroom."
Wait, what the hell am I doing? I'm Opal Rodriguez.
I stand up straight and give him my bitch face.
"You know what, Nathan?" I ask him, looking straight into his eyes. "I don't have time to deal with your irrelevant bullshit."
I take a step closer to him, our faces inches apart. "Now walk away before I break you," I tell him quietly. "You already ruined my day."
I watch him as he slowly let's his hand drop to his side, and he walks away.
I take in a deep breath and slowly let it out, as I turn back to my locker.
~
I sit awkwardly at the table, trying to focus on my food.
Since Bella is in the library working on a project, it's just me and the boys.
"Hey, Opal," Will says. "You good? You barely touched your food."
"Not really," I mumble, glancing at Nathan for a quick moment, and then turning back to my food.
I feel someone tap my shoulder, and I turn around finding Vince. "What the hell do you want?"
"Just wanted to see how you're doing," he says with a smirk.
"I was doing okay until you bothered me," I say. "Go away."
He looks around at the guys. "Huh, so this is why you don't have another boyfriend yet. You're literally one of them."
I immediately stand up and face him. "I guess this is why you don't have another girlfriend yet," I say to him, raising an eyebrow. "Your irrelevance is unwanted."
I walk away, and head straight to the bathroom. Thankfully, it's empty.
I look at myself in the mirror. I quickly notice my nose turning pink. "Ugh, don't cry," I tell myself quietly, closing my eyes. "Don't cry."
The weird thing about me is my nose. It loves to tell the world that I've been crying, expressing itself through colors. Such as red.
Or pink.
I look back at the mirror, realizing how weak I actually am.

â ï¸Nathan's P.O.Vâ ï¸
All of us look up and watch her leave. I see her make her way to the girls' bathroom.
I turn to Vince. "Why the fuck are you still here?" I ask, clearly annoyed. "Go away."
I watch him quickly run back to his table.
"That piece of shit," I hear Will say under his breath.
"What happened between you two?" Kyle asks.
I turn to him. "You're talking about me and Opal?"
He nods his head.
"Oh. I got kinda mad at her this morning," I mumble.
"About what?"
I scratch the back of my head awkwardly. "About Bianca."
Will raises his eyebrows. "Well, go on."
"Uh, she texted me," I say. "And for some reason, Bianca answered for me. Anyway, they had a small conversation, which led me to get kicked out of her house."
"Lemme see the conversation," Derek says.
I unlock my phone and hand it to him. "How did she unlock your phone?"
"I told her my password.."
They all stare at me for a moment. "Bruh, you're dumb as hell," Will says.
"Why'd you get mad, anyway?" Derek asks, scrolling through my phone, reading the conversation.
I scratch the back of my head. "I actually don't know," I mumble.
"Wow," Kyle says sarcastically. "Okay, let me give you some advice. Girls are like adorable little puppies."
I stare at him. "..puppies?"
"Yea. They love the attention and affection. But once you get mad at them, it kinda ruins their whole day."
I'm kinda lost, but I get what he's saying. Derek hands me back my phone. "You better apologize or something," he says.
I nod my head slowly. "I would, but she's in the bathroom."
"That wouldn't stop me," Will says, with a smirk on his face.
I let out a laugh.
I walk out the cafeteria, but at the same time, Opal steps out of the bathroom. Her nose is slightly pink.
I watch her make her way to the library.
I silently follow her. I see her look around a few times, and I realize she's probably looking for Bella.
End of â ï¸Nathan's P.O.Vâ ï¸
I make my way to the book shelves, looking for Bella.
I observe the books I pass by, but I wasn't expecting to find a fucking face in the shelves.
My eyes widen and I quickly place my hand on my chest, as I take a deep breath. I slowly realize it's Nathan's face.
And on his face is a smirk. "Hey Minnie Mouse, want me to be your Mickey Mouse?" he says, attempting to wiggle his eyebrows.
I let out a small laugh. But my smile quickly fades, once I remember that I'm supposed to be mad him.
"What the hell are you doing here," I say quietly, looking away from him.
"Uh, I just wanted to know if your okay," he says, his face still in the shelf.
"I'm fine," I assure him, although I know it's a lie.
He stares at me for a couple moments. "And I'm sorry."
I look at him and raise an eyebrow. "Sorry for what?"
He let's out a sigh. "Sorry for being a jerk this morning.."
"And a complete dumbass," I add.
He smiles. "And a dumbass."
I smile back at him. "Okay, I forgive you."
I watch his face disappear from the shelf and he walks around it, making his way to me.
~
I walk out of school, finding my way to Gemma's car.
Once I finally find her I try to open the door. But it's locked.
I knock on her window, trying to tell her it's locked.
She rolls down her window. "What do you want?"
..What do I want? A fucking car ride bitch, what do you mean 'what do I want?'.
"A car ride," I say in an obvious tone. "Now unlock the door."
She turns away from me. "Walk home."
This bitch did not just..
"Excuse? C'mon, Gemma, unlock the door," I say. "Stop playing with me."
"Just go away," she says quietly.
...She's on her period, right?
"Gemma, just unlock the door, so we can head home," I tell her.
"I'm not going home," I hear her say.
"What? Gemma, tell me what's going on."
She finally turns to me, her eyes looking glossy. "Promise me you'll never fall in love, okay?"
She rolls up her windows, and drives out of her parking space. I watch her drive away, so confused about what's going on.
I let a sigh, and make my way to where Nathan always parks his motorcycle.
I find him, standing in front of a girl. She keeps playing with her hair and touching Nathan a few times.
I roll my eyes and walk up to them. "Nathan," I call out to him.
He turns my way. "I need a ride," I tell him.
He nods his said, and says a few words to the girl. I realize that it's Chloe Anderson.
She glares at me, before walking away.
Once I'm finally in front of him, he hands me his helmet. I put it on.
"So what happened to your sister?" He asks, knowing that when I ride with him, it means that my usual ride is unavailable.
"She was acting hella weird," I reply, hopping behind Nathan and wrapping my arms around his waist. "She just drove away without me."
He nods his head and starts the engine. We make our way out the parking lot and onto the road.
~
He parks in front of my house. "Thanks," I tell handing back his helmet.
I notice that there's no cars on the driveway, telling me that my mom is working late, and my sister is...wherever she is.
I walk up to the front door. "Uh, Opal?"
I turn to Nathan. "What?"
"Can I stay at your place for a while?"
I stop. "Um, why?"
"No one is at my house right now," he replies. Oh right, his mom is working late, too.
"How about Ella?" I ask.
"She's staying with my aunt this week. She goes there every year."
I nod my head. "Uh, sure. You could stay for a while."
"Thanks," he says with a smile.
We both walk into my house. "Lemme just go change upstairs, you could sit in the living room."
"Or I could go with you and watch you change," he says, smirking at me.
For some reason, I feel my face heating up. "Perv much? Just shut up and sit on the couch."
He let's out out a laugh and takes a seat on the couch, looking at his phone.
I head up stairs and change into my gray sweatpants and a black shirt.
I tie my hair up in a ponytail, and make my way downstairs.
"So, what're you doing?" I ask, sitting beside him and looking over at his phone. I find that he's on Instagram.
"Wow, only 798 followers?" I ask, looking at his profile.
He looks at me. "Why, how much do you have?"
"951 followers," I tell him proudly. "Oh, you should follow me, too. You'll be number 952."
"Fine, what's your username?"
"Let me type it down." I grab his phone and type down my username. I find it and I tap follow.
"There," I say, smiling. "You're 952."
He takes his phone and looks at my profile. "Damn, Minnie Mouse. You looking good."
I slap his arm. "Shut up," I say, although there's a smile on my face.
He finally puts his phone down. "So what do you want to do?"
"I don't know," I say. "Definitely not homework."
~
I throw another popcorn at Nathan's mouth, but it misses again. I let out a groan. "I'm so bad at this."
Nathan just laughs, as he sits across from me on the couch. "Let me try," he says, and I give him the bowl full of popcorn.
I open my mouth and he throws the popcorn, which lands straight into my mouth. I close my mouth, with a surprised look on my face. "How did you do that?" I ask, chewing my popcorn.
"Minnie Mouse, you're just bad at aiming," he laughs.
I roll my eyes and check the time on my phone.
6:34
"Oh my god," I say quietly.
"What?"
I look up at Nathan, a little bit of fear in my eyes. "My sister hasn't been home for 2 hours, and it's already 6:34."
"Call her," he says.
I nod my head and search for her name in my contacts. I call the number and wait for an answer.
After the third ring, someone picks up the phone. "Hello? Gemma?" I ask quickly, relieved that she answered.
"Oh hey, Opal tree," I hear her giggle.
I pull the phone away and look at Nathan. "She just called me a fucking tree."
He just shrugs his shoulders.
I put the phone back to my ear. I finally realize that there's loud music going on in the background. "Gemma where the hell are you?"
"I'm at a-" I hear her ask someone where she is. "Oh I'm at a club."
My eyes widen. "You're at a club?" I watch Nathan's eyes widen, too.
I hear her giggle through the phone, and I cringe. "That's right, Opal tree. I'm at Mickey Mouse's clubhouse," she slurs.
"Oh god, are you fucking drunk?" I ask, although I already know the answer.
"No, silly. I'm not drunk," she hiccups. "Wow, if only mom could see me now."
"She'd be disappointed in you," I tell her, but she already hung up.
"We need to go get her," I quickly tell Nathan.
He nods his head.
We walk out the door, and I didn't even bother to change. I stare up at the dark sky. "We're gonna walk, okay?"
"Why?" Nathan asks.
"There's only one club I know, and it's like 12 minutes away from here," I reply. "Plus, we could drive her car back home."
He nods and we start making our way to my drunk sister.
~
"There it is," I say, pointing at a building and spotting Gemma's car outside.
"Okay, let's go," Nathan says.
We walk straight inside, and I feel so out of place. As I wore my shirt and sweatpants, other girls were dancing to the music in their short dresses.
I hug Nathan's arm as we walk through the crowds. There's colorful lights everywhere, and I still can't see a thing.
We make our way to the bar and what I'm seeing before is a sad sight. My mom would be so disappointed.
Gemma is sitting on one of the stools, with like 50 empty shot glasses in front of her. And she's talking to her hand.
Her own freaking hand.
We walk up to her. "Gemma," I say, tapping her shoulder.
She looks up from her hand and smiles at me. "Opal tree, you found me."
She stands but immediately loses her balance and holds on to me. "Nathan, help me."
We both lead her outside. I dig through her pockets, finding the car keys. "I'll drive," I tell Nathan.
"You have a drivers license on you?"
"It's not on me, but I do have one," I reply. "Too bad I don't have a car."
I start the engine as Nathan places my sister in the backseat.
After buckling her seatbelt, Nathan sits beside me in the front.
"Try to not get pulled over, Minnie Mouse," he tells me.
The drive back home is silent, until we actually make it to the driveway.
"I fucking hate Joshua Suarez!" Gemma screams, once I get her out of the car.
I cover her mouth with my hand. "Gemma, shut up," I tell her quietly.
She licks my hand and I let go of her mouth. There's tears slowly rolling down her face.
"Why are you crying?" I ask quietly.
"I don't know," she replies.
Nathan helps me carry her upstairs to her bedroom, and she immediately falls asleep.
"Well," Nathan says. "I better head back home. I gotta finish my homework."
"Okay," I say, "see you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow, Minnie Mouse," he says smirking, making his way downstairs and exiting the front door.
