His Hoodie
"Gemma, you bitch," I yell, running down the stairs. It's freaking Saturday.
And it's like 5 in the morning.
"If you want your phone back, tell me the password," she yells in reply, making her way to the kitchen.
I let out a groan. "Gemma," I shout. "Give it back or I'm telling mom you got drunk on Thursday."
I run after her into the kitchen. She quickly runs past me, heading to the living room.
She jumps onto the couch and I do same. Except I land on her.
"Give it back," I say, slapping her shoulder.
"Fine," she says tiredly, handing me back my phone. "But please delete that picture."
"Bitch, I'm not deleting this picture until you make me some pancakes," I tell her, raising an eyebrow.
"I hate you," she mumbles walking back into the kitchen.
"Love you, too."
~
I sit across from my sister at the dinning table, enjoying my breakfast.
I hear a ring from Gemma's phone and she checks the text she just got. "It's from Mom."
"So what does it say?"
"Uh.. She's gonna be home at 7 apparently," she says, looking at her phone.
"Oh okay," I reply, continuing on eating my pancakes.
I hear my phone get a text, too. I pick it up.
uglyâï¸: can i come over?
"Uh Gemma, is it fine if Nathan comes over?" I ask her.
"Sure," she replies, keeping her eyes on her phone. I look back at mine.
Me: yea sureð
uglyâï¸: ok. be there in like 5 min
I put my phone down and continuing eating.
"Well," my sister says, making me look up at her. "Aren't you going to change?"
"No, why?"
"Well, I mean your boyfriend is coming over so," she replies, giving me a huge smile.
"Oh god, shut up," I mumble. "And you better shut up when he comes over, too."
~
I hear the doorbell ring, and I quickly run to open the door. "Hey," I say, breathlessly. Nathan is wearing a maroon hoodie with grey sweatpants, and for some reason, it makes me happy.
"Desperate hoe," I hear my sister whisper behind me.
I turn around and slap her shoulder, while Nathan lets out a laugh.
He walks inside, and I shut the door. "So where's your mom?" He asks.
"She went to work early," Gemma replies.
Nathan nods his head and takes a seat on the couch. I sit beside him. "So, how's life?" I ask.
"It's going okay," he replies, playing with the strings of his hoodie. "I kinda miss my sister, though."
I nod my head. "When's she coming back?"
"Tomorrow."
"Hey, lovebirds," we hear behind us. We both turn around, finding Gemma holding a plate of more pancakes. "Pancakes?"
"Yea, sure," I tell her, although my eyes are staring daggers at her.
She sets the plate on the table in front of us, and heads up to her room.
"So," Nathan says. "Do mind me taking you to the park with me?"
I stare at him for a moment, to see if he was joking. He just keeps his eyes on me, waiting for an answer. "Uh, sure," I finally reply.
His eyes drop down to my chest..
"What's this?" He asks, gently holding the locket of my necklace. "I see you play with it all time."
I look down at my hands. "My dad gave it to me," I say softly.
"It's beautiful," he says quietly.
"Thanks."
~
"You should've brought a sweater," Nathan says, watching me shiver, as we walk together to the park.
"I'm good," I say, rubbing my bare arms, trying to keep warm.
"If you say so," he says.
We continue walking until we finally reach the park. "So, what are we going to do?" I ask.
"Anything you want to do," he replies, kicking the wood chips of the playground.
Thankfully, no one is playing here. But that's only because it's fucking cold.
"I wanna go on the swings," I say.
"Sure," he says, making his way to the swings. I stay where I am, and he gives me a confused look. "Aren't you coming?"
"Nathan, it's cold as hell," I say tiredly. "Can we just go home?"
He raises his eyebrow and lets out a sigh. I watch him make his way over to me. And then he pulls off his hoodie.
Part of his shirt goes up, revealing some..abs. Damn. I bite my lip and look away.
"Here," says, handing me his maroon hoodie.
I stare at it. "Oh my god, for real?"
"Take it or I'm taking it back," he says, as I quickly grab it and put it on. It's big, but I like it.
And being the fucking weirdo I am, I smell it. And bitch, it smells good as hell.
He let's out a laugh and takes my hand. "C'mon, lets go," he says, leading me to the swings.
I try to ignore the fact that my heart is soaring high as he touches me. "Aren't you cold?" I ask him, staring at the white shirt he's wearing.
"Nah, I'm good," he replies.
We finally reach the swings, and I take seat. Nathan takes the swing beside me. "I feel hungry," I say, gently swinging back and forth.
"Didn't you eat already, though?"
"That was only like 20 pancakes," I reply.
"More like 32 pancakes."
I let out a laugh. "True."
We keep swinging in silence before I speak again. "No, but for real. I'm being serious as hell when I'm saying I'm still hungry," I tell him.
"Oh okay," he says, standing up from the swing as I stay in mine. "I know a small bakery near here."
"Well then," I say, standing up. "Let's go."
I follow Nathan as we make our way across the street to the bakery. Once we step inside, warmth surrounds us and a sweet smell greets me.
I admire the baked goods as Nathan makes his way past me. "C'mon, Opal. Choose a muffin."
"Okay."
I walk up beside him, finding myself staring at gigantic cupcakes on display in the glass counter.
"Hi, what can I get you?" A girl says behind the counter. She has a smile plastered on her face as she keeps her eyes on Nathan. She seems to be around our age.
"We would like two muffins," he says.
"Of course. Which ones?" She asks, twirling her blonde hair around her finger.
I roll my eyes. "Uh, I would like the corn muffin."
Her cold blue eyes turn to me. She gives me a disgusted look, as if she just realized I'm here. "Sure," she says, quickly plastering a smile.
"And I would like red velvet," Nathan adds.
She turns back to him, smiling. "Of course."
She grabs two little paper bags and puts each of our muffins in the bags. Nathan pays and we walk out of the bakery, making our way back to the park.
"I didn't like that fake bitch," I mumble, as we find a bench near the playground and take a seat.
Nathan looks through his bag. "Oh, look what I found."
I turn to him, with my bag on my lap. "What is it?"
Nathan pulls out a small sheet of paper. In a messy handwriting, it read 'hmu hottie'. On the bottom had her number.
"Wow," I laugh.
He laughs, too, and throws the paper to the side. "I'm not in the mood for a girl right now. Instead, I'm gonna eat." He pulls out his muffin from the bag.
I start eating mine, too. "Can we head back to my place after eating?" I ask with my mouth full of food.
Nathan grabs a napkin from his bag and wipes some crumbs on my face. "Yea, sure."
I let out a smile and we both continue enjoying our muffins in the chilly weather.
