Your Face Looks Like a U.F.O.
I let out a sigh as I step out of Gemma's car. "I'm fucking tired," I groan, slowly making my way to the door of our house.
"Shut up. You said that like twenty times already," my sister says, exhausted from her her day too.
We've just came back from school. I unlock the door, and we both walk in. I drop my bag on the floor and fall onto the couch. "Why couldn't today be Friday?"
Gemma pats my head. "Calm down, tomorrow's Friday."
I let out a sigh, pulling out my phone from my pocket.
"You want pizza rolls?" My sister asks from the kitchen.
"Sure," I reply, keeping my eyes in my phone. I got a text from Nathan about 10 minutes ago:
my stalker ð: can you come over?
I let out a yawn as I type a response:
Me: I'm tired. and i got hw ð
my stalker ð: then can i come over?
Me: idgafð¤ð¤
I place my phone beside me, closing my eyes for a moment. I wish there was a job that pays you to sleep. Sounds dumb as hell, but-
The doorbell interrupts my thoughts.
"Did mom forget her key?" Gemma asks from the kitchen.
I struggle to stand up, combing my fingers through my hair. "It's not mom," I sigh, rubbing my tired eyes.
I open the door and, to my surprise, I'm staring at Will. His hands are in the pockets of his sweater. "Hey, red."
I smile at the nickname he still calls me. "I thought you were Nathan."
"I'm right here," I hear Nathan's voice call out behind Will.
"Oh, of course you're here," I mumble, my eyes struggling to keep open.
I open the door wider so they can come in. Both of them step inside, as I make my way back to the couch.
"Just so you guys know, I'm sleepy as hell. So please don't bother me," I warn them, pointing my finger at the two boys in front of me.
"You look hot when you're sleepy," Nathan comments, smirking at me as he places his hands in the pockets of his grey hoodie. His green eyes seem to dance with a amusement.
Will chuckles at his friend's comment, both of them almost laughing.
I roll my eyes at them. Boys.
"Well I'm not hotter when I'm mad," I tell them with a straight face. "So please don't bother me. Or else I'll just kick you guys out."
"No problem, Minnie Mouse," Nathan says, giving me a salute.
I stand up and make my way upstairs, as the boys take a seat on the couch. I stop at probably the twelfth step. "Why are you guys here, anyway?"
"We were bored," Will replies.
I shrug my shoulders and continue my way up the stairs.
I walk into my room and into a more comfortable outfit. I put on some grey sweatpants and a shirt with a design I made last year.
I tie my hair into a ponytail and make my way downstairs.
I sit on the carpet floor in front of the couch.
"What's on your shirt?" Nathan asks me, as I'm scrolling through my phone.
"I just splat some paint on it. It's nothing in particular," I tell him, giving him a clearer view of my shirt.
"You made that?" He asks, staring at the shirt. He continues to observe it for a few more seconds.
"Uh, to me, it looks like a U.F.O.," I say breaking the silence.
"Your face looks like a U.F.O."
I raise an eyebrow at him. "Excuse me?"
He gives me a smirk.
I pretend to ignore him, keeping my eyes on my phone.
"Uh, you guys wanna head to the park?" Will asks awkwardly. I almost forgot he was here.
"Sure, lets go," I say, standing up. Gemma appears out of the kitchen, holding a plate of pizza rolls.
"I thought you wanted pizza rolls," she says tiredly, setting the plate down in front of us on the small table.
I stare at the dish for a moment, until I grabbing one. "Let's eat these first. Then we'll head to the park."
~
I kick a stone in front us, as we make our way to the park.
"Kyle and Derek are already there," Will says.
"They're gonna be there, too?" I ask, looking at both of them.
"Yep," Nathan replies.
I nod my head, turning my attention to the cracks on the pavement we're walking on. I find myself trying to avoid the cracks. I continue this, as the boys look at me like I'm crazy. But they let me continue my stupid ways.
Step by step, we get closer to the park. I'm still trying to avoid the cracks. I take another step, unfortunately losing my balance. And I fall to the ground.
"Oh god, I'm stupid," I mumble, sitting up and rubbing my knee.
I stare up at the boys, and that's when they start laughing. "Guys, shut up and help me," I tell them.
Still laughing, Nathan gives me his hand. I take it and he helps me up. "Opal, you're so fucking smart," he struggles to say through his laughter.
I roll my eyes at them, trying to straighten myself up. I feel a stinging pain in my knee and end up limping forward into Nathan.
He stops laughing. "Shit, are you okay?" he asks, sounding concerned.
I wave him away. "Yea, I'm fine. It just hurts 'cause I fell on it."
I turn around to keep walking, but I limp instead. I'm such a dumbass.
We're literally in the park now, looking for Derek and Kyle. After a few moments, I hear a sigh in front of me. "Opal, get on my back."
I look up and meet his eyes. "Excuse me? I'm fine."
"You're slow. Get on my back," he insists. Will keeps walking ahead.
I shrug my shoulders. "Fine."
He walks over to me and turns around. I hop on his back, wrapping my arms around his neck. "Don't hold on too tight," Nathan says teasingly.
"I'm not making any promises," I reply, thinking of how I could strangle him. You know, for fun.
We finally reach a picnic table, where Will, Kyle, and Derek are talking about a basketball game last night. They turn and look at us. "What took you guys so long?" Derek asks.
"Smartass here fell on the sidewalk," Nathan says, referring to me.
"Could we not talk about it?" I ask, feeling dumb about the falling thing.
"Sure," Will responds.
"Lets do truth or dare," Derek says, looking at all of us.
Truth or dare. Basically the game that made me meet these weirdos. "Sure, lets do it."
We all sit at the picnic table. I'm seated between Nathan and Will.
"Rock-paper-scissors to see who goes first," Kyle says.
Will ends up going first. "Truth or dare?" Nathan asks him.
"Dare," he replies confidently.
~
We've probably been here for about 2 hours. And I'm currently trying to climb a tree. "I fucking hate you guys," I tell them.
Derek is recording the whole thing.
"C'mon, Minnie Mouse," Nathan says, standing beside Kyle and Will. "All you gotta do is reach the top. Or you give me and Will 20 dollars."
"Shut up, I'm concentrating," I mumble. I feel a slight sting in my knee when I try to place my foot on one of the branches. Shit.
"Uh, guys? My leg kinda hurts. Can I just pass?" I say loudly.
"Then can we get our 20 bucks?" Will asks.
"Sure, dumbass," I scoff. I hop down and limp to avoid the pain in my knee.
We sit at the table again. Now it's Nathan's turn. "Truth or dare?" I ask him.
"Dare," he replies, like he did for the past 2 hours.
I look around, trying to think of something. I look up at one of the trees, spotting one red leaf on one of trees. And it's like way up high. I look back at Nathan, a mischievous grin on my face. "Climb that tree and get me that red leaf. Or give me 40 dollars."
I point at the tall tree. Nathan stares up at the tree, then looks back at me. To my surprise, a smirk is on his face, for some reason making lose the confidence I apparently had.
He starts climbing the tree. And he keeps going. We all watch him reach the top with ease and pick off the leaf. Then he makes his way down. He walks over to me, little drops of sweat on his face. But his green eyes are what I'm really staring at. They look so bright, even as the sun sets. He hands me the red leaf and winks at me.
"Show-off," I scoff, setting the leaf on the table.
"Damn, Nate," Will laughs.
"We should be heading home, guys," Kyle says, checking his phone.
~
Nathan and I walk back to our houses. Will, Kyle, and Derek went home about a while ago. "Your leg feels better?" He asks, noticing that I'm not limping much.
"Yea," I reply. It's already dark now, and all I could see is his silhouette and the faint color of his green eyes.
We arrive at our houses. "Well bye, Opal."
I smile at him. "Bye, Nathan."
I make my way back to my house, when I hear him call my name. I turn back and look at him from across the street. He's standing in front his door. "What?" I call out.
"Your face looks like a U.F.O. It's out of this world," he says loudly so I can hear. I'm reminded of what we were talking about this afternoon. I shake my head at him.
I feel smile appear on my face. "Goodnight, idiot."
