I Don't Kiss Trolls
I stare into his eyes silently after the words that left his lips. My heart is racing so fast right now. I'm guess I'm in love with the dumbass.
"So, is this the part where we kiss?" I ask him awkwardly.
A smirk appears on his face. "If you want it to be."
He leans in closer, and I can already feel my face getting hotter and hotter.
"You guys are gonna kiss?"
We quickly stop and turn to the person standing at the top of the stairs. Ella stands there with wide eyes, as she holds tightly onto her fairy wings.
I can't help but laugh when she shields her eyes with her small hands.
"Don't worry, Ella. I don't kiss trolls," I tell her, as I jokingly push Nathan away.
She giggles at my statement, as she carefully makes her way down the stairs.
I glance over at Nathan, and he gives me wink. In reply, I roll my eyes at him.
I feel a small hand tug at my own. "C'mon, let's go to the kitchen," she says, leading me there.
"Why?" I ask curiously.
"So we can eat pizza while we play," she replies happily.
"Can I play, too?" Nathan asks behind us.
Ella immediately turns around. "No boys allowed," she states firmly, before turning back around.
"Opal," he calls out me, and I turn around to see a pout on his face.
"You heard the boss," I tell him with a shrug. "No boys allowed."
~
I listen to Ella's soft snores, as she lays on my lap.
I hear footsteps making their way down the stairs, and I turn my head towards the direction. Nathan walks over to me. "She's asleep?" He asks tiredly.
"Mhm," I answer, as I sit on the couch.
He scratches the back of his neck. "I can carry her to her room."
"Okay," I tell him, and he lifts Ella from my lap.
I watch him make his way back upstairs, and after a while, he's walking down the stairs again. He takes a seat beside me on the couch.
"Can I ask you something?"
I turn to him. "Sure."
"Why did you run?" He asks.
I stare at him for a few seconds. It's really hard trying to keep eye contact with him. "What?"
"I mean, why did you run when I kissed you?" He asks in a low voice.
The thought of that night makes the butterflies in my stomach flutter. It happened a while ago, but somehow I remember every bit. "I- I wasn't expecting it," I mumble.
Then it's silent. The sound of the clock from the other room can even be heard from here. We stare at each other until his gaze falls onto my lips.
"Would be okay if I can do it over again?"
My heart beats fast. I open my mouth to answer, until my phone interrupts me. The call is from Gemma.
"Hello?" I ask into the phone.
"You need to get home."
My face scrunches up in confusion. "Excuse me?"
I glance over at Nathan, and his face is full of concern. 'What is it?' He mouthed.
I shrug my shoulders in reply.
I hear Gemma let out an irritated groan. "Just get here. Now."
"Okay, okay," I tell her, and I end the call.
I run my fingers through my hair. "I gotta head home."
"What happened?" Nathan asks.
I shake my head. "I don't even know, but apparently I gotta go."
I stand to leave, and he stands up, too. I watch as he opens his arms. I give him a small smile before walking into them, and he wraps his arms around my small body.
It feels good to hug him. Like, really good.
"See you later, Minnie Mouse," he whispers into my ear, sending tingles throughout my body.
I smile at his statement. "See you later."
After a while, he lets go, and I make my way out the door.
~
As I step into the house, I'm met with the sound of my sister screaming.
"You can't just walk in here and pretend that you've been here your whole life!" She shouts.
"I'm sorry, okay? I'm sorry," A man responds to her. I follow the voices and find myself in the dining room.
Mom is sitting at the table, with her head buried in her hands. Behind her chair is Gemma, glaring at a man across the table. He seemed to be around my mom's age.
But what really caught my attention was the young girl hiding behind the old man. Somehow, she looked like me and Gemma.
"Who's this?" I ask, carefully walking over to my sister.
"Some bitch who thought they were still relevant in our lives," she spits out.
But the old man seems unaffected by her words, as he stared at me with wide eyes. "Opal. Opal, I-"
"Shut up," Gemma immediately cuts him off. "Don't say anything to her."
"Wait who is he?" I ask, completely lost.
"Opal," my mom says in a hoarse voice, and I glance over at her. Her face is still buried in her hands, but I can hear her clearly. "This is your father."
I look back at the old man, and notice that when he talked, he had a slight Australian accent. Then my eyes avert to the little girl hiding. "Then- then is she.."
My mind is debating whether I should believe all this or not.
I hear Gemma let out a shaky breath. "That's Ruby. Our little sister."
