Princess Cinder-Ella

"You better finish your homework quickly. You have one hour before you go to their house," my sister says, as she parks her car in the driveway of our house.

"Got it," I reply, hopping out of her car. I make my way to the front door, and with the keys in my hand, I open it. My sister follows me inside, and she heads up to her room.

"Is mom working late again?" I ask her, as she walks up the stairs.

"Yep," she replies.

I head into the living room and drop my bag on the couch. Then I head over to the kitchen to grab a snack.

'In our nature, however, there is a provision, alike marvellous and merciful, that the sufferer should never-'

"Opal, it's almost 5. You gotta go soon," Gemma calls out from upstairs.

"Shit, already?" I ask aloud. I check my phone.

4:51

I quickly close the book, The Scarlet Letter, and rush upstairs to change my clothes.

~

"Bye, Gemma!" I shout, as I'm about to walk out the door.

"Just go!" She shouts in reply.

Once outside, I close the door behind me. I make my way across the street to their house. Hesitantly, I ring the doorbell.

As soon as I pressed the doorbell, the door quickly opens, revealing Nathan. He looked relieved to see me.

"Thank God you're here," he whispers. "I have a bit of a prob-"

"Babe, who the hell was at the door?" A voice asks. A very annoying, yet familiar voice.

"Chloe, for the last time, get the fuck out of my house!" Nathan shouts behind him.

I raise an eyebrow. "Chloe?"

He looks back at me. "Yea," he mumbles, looking frustrated. "My sister is upstairs, playing with her toys."

"Who's she?" A voice asks. Right beside Nathan, was Chloe Anderson, glaring at me.

"I'm in your class, bitch," I blurt. Whoops.

Her mouth quickly drops open. "Who the hell are you calling a bitch? Look at you. You're dressed like a hobo," she says, looking me up and down.

I raise an eyebrow. "And look at you, barely dressed at all."

She was supposed to be a little girl's babysitter, yet she was wearing a freaking crop top and booty shorts..

"Chloe, can you just leave?" Nathan asks impatiently.

"Wait, she's taking my job? But I loved spending time with Elmer," she whines.

"Ella," he corrects her.

"Yea, I meant Ella," she says. She wraps her arms around his neck. "C'mon, babe. You know you want me."

I scoff. "Yea, sure he wants you, Chloe. Just like he wanted Heather the other day," I say. "Oh wait, isn't she, like, your best friend?"

"What are you talking about?" Chloe asks me. Nathan just looks at me curiously, interested in what I have to say.

"Why don't you ask her? I'm sure she'll tell you," I say.

Then, Chloe quickly grabs out her phone. She walks outside, shoving past me, to her car.

I laugh softly as she drives away.

"You saw that?"

I turn around to face Nathan. "Saw what?"

"Me and Heather?"

"Uh, yea. You guys did it in a crowded hallway." Dumbass.

"Oh, right," he mumbles. He scratches the back of his head. "Want to come inside now?"

"Sure," I reply, stepping into the house.

As I step inside, I hear Ella's voice at the top of the stairs: "Nathan, is the witch gone yet?!"

"Don't worry, Your Highness. Opal and I sent her to the dungeon," Nathan says, locking the door behind him.

"Opal is here?" She squeals, as I hear her footsteps down the stairs. Finally reaching the bottom steps, Ella, in a pink dress, smiles at me happily and gives me a hug.

I can't help but smile as well. She has a plastic tiara on her head and charm bracelets on her wrists.

She looks up at me. "Opal, I'm about to have a royal tea party in the castle. Let's go," she says, pulling my hand as she leads me up the stairs.

"Am I invited, Your Highness?" Nathan asks, still standing by the door.

"Yea, now c'mon let's go," she replies impatiently.

"Hold up, princess. How about Opal and I bring snacks to the tea party, while you get everything ready?" Nathan suggests.

"That's perfect," she says, letting go of my hand. "Go help. Shoo, shoo," she says, waving me away.

She shuts the door of her bedroom, as I walk down the stairs, smiling.

"Your sister is freaking cute," I squeak, as I finally make it downstairs.

"She's my sister. Of course she's cute," he says, walking towards the kitchen, as I follow him.

"Hey, could you grab the cookies? They're on the counter over there," he says, pointing across the kitchen.

"Sure," I reply, finding the cookies as he grabs a plate from one of the cabinets.

"Nathan?" I ask, bring the cookies over to him, and placing them on the plate.

"Yea?"

"Can't you babysit your sister?" I ask. I know I've asked the same question before, but I didn't get a proper answer.

"I don't know, maybe?"

I let out a laugh. "What's that supposed to mean?"

He sighs, running his fingers through his hair. "I'm actually the reason my family moved to this house."

We're in the dining room now, and I place the plate on the table. "What did you do?" I ask curiously.

"I burned the house down. On Christmas Eve," he mumbles, scratching the back of his head awkwardly.

I just stare at him, shocked. "You- you burned a house down?"

"That's what happened," he replies.

"How do you burn a house down on Christmas Eve? Are you that stupid?"

"Hey," he says defensively. "It was an accident."

"So what happened?"

"I tried to bake cookies. And I failed miserably," he says.

"Yes. Yes, you did," I say, picking up the plate of cookies. "Now let's head upstairs for our royal tea party with the princess."

~

"More tea, Nathan?" Ella asks her brother, sitting across from her wearing a pink fluffy hat. And he looks bored as hell.

"Sure," he replies, holding out his tiny teacup.

"I would like some," I say smiling, as I hold up my little cup. Just like Nathan, I'm wearing a pink hat, too.

"Oh, of course," Ella says, in an attempt of a British accent, as she pours the 'tea' into my cup.

"Guys, we gotta eat dinner soon," Nathan says, his eyes on his phone, as he begins to stand up.

"Could we get fried chicken, Nathan?" Ella asks, as she fixes the tiara on her head.

He turns to me. "Is fried chicken fine with you?"

"Sure," I reply.

He nods his head and leaves with his phone to his ear.

~

"You got a little something right there," Nathan says, tapping the left corner of his mouth. His hand reaches out to wipe it for me, but I slap it away.

"I got it," I manage to say, with fried chicken stuffed in my mouth.

I keep my eyes on the TV as SpongeBob plays on the screen. Ella is watching, too, as she slowly eats her chicken.

Nathan and I are on the couch, as Ella sits on the carpet.

"You still watch this?"

Slowly, I turn to the person beside me and give him a look of disbelief. "Of course I do. You're not too old to watch Spongebob."

He smiles a bit, as if he's about to laugh. "I can't take you seriously if your face is covered with chicken oil," he says, handing me a napkin.

I take it and wipe my mouth, making sure nothing's there anymore.

"Spongebob is my life," I claim, crumpling the napkin in my hand.

"Yea, I love SpongeBob," Ella agrees, keeping her eyes on the screen.

"Well, sorry to disappoint you, Cinder-Ella, but it's almost your bedtime," he says, reaching for the remote.

Quickly, I slap his hand. Nathan pulls his hand back and looks at me. "Do you mind?"

I glare at him. "Yes. Yes I do. I'm still watching, if you noticed."

He grabs the remote anyway, and turns off the TV. "Whatever was in that chicken, made you high," he says.

"No!" I exclaim, reaching for the remote in his hand.

"And you say I act like a kid," he mumbles.

I stop and slouch on the couch. That's when I finally notice Ella is staring at the both of us. And she has a huge grin on her face.

"Are you guys boyfriend and girlfriend?" She asks, the smile still on her face.

My eyes widen and I quickly respond, "You know, Ella? I think you're sleepy. How about you brush your teeth and I tuck you in bed?"

She simply stares. "Okay," she finally says. She walks upstairs, leaving me and Nathan still sitting on the couch.

"So, girlfriend, what do you wanna do?" He asks teasingly, scooting closer to me.

I slap his arm lightly. "Shut up."

"Chill, I'm joking," he says, laughing.

I roll my eyes, putting my hands in the pockets of my hoodie. "Do I look like a hobo?" I ask, feeling a bit insecure from what happened earlier.

"Nah, and to be honest, you look cute," he says, smiling.

I smile back. "Thanks." I pull out my phone to check the time.

"Oh, I actually should head back home. Gotta wake up early tomorrow," I say, standing up. "Can you tell Ella I said 'goodnight'?"

"Sure," he says, leading me to the door. He opens it and I walk outside into the quiet night.

"See you tomorrow, Opal," he calls out, as I make my way across the street.

"See you tomorrow," I say.
