Chapter 852 Missed
Paxtonâs words totally shut the other people up. What he said was correct. Ronin was detained for too long. No one could guarantee what would happen during this period.
Zobber didnât know what to say. If it was really Ronin who did it, she didnât know if she should blame him or not.
After all, he was held hostage by the other party for so long. If Ronin didnât really suffer inhuman treatment, she wouldnât believe that Ronin would betray Catherine.
The room was filled with silence, and no one said a word.
âDing dong!â The sound of the doorbell ringing caused them to be alert.
Paxton took a look at the two and took the initiative to speak. âIâll open the door.â
The other people exchanged glances and agreed with Paxtonâs approach.
Paxton was originally cautious when opening the door, but when he saw who it was, he instantly dropped his guard and became very respectful. âSir, Miss Swann, how did you guys get here?â
Catherine didnât expect Paxton to show up here. She gave him a once-over and was a bit surprised.
Seeing the situation, Paxton quickly explained himself, âMiss Swann, Iâm here to pick up something.â
âLetâs go in to talk,â Branden said from behind Catherine.
Paxton stepped back and made way for Catherine and Branden to enter.
When she heard that Catherine was here, Zobber couldnât sit still anymore, so she just rushed over toward Catherine.
If Branden werenât there, she would have just thrown herself onto Catherine. âCatherine, you finally made it.â
Catherine raised her eyebrows and looked at Zobber, chuckling softly. âDid you miss me?â
Seeing that her condition was not too bad, Zobber felt a little bit relieved. â Catherine, whatâs up with the leaked experiment this time?â
âWhat else could it be? Someone hacked into my computer and stole my data,â Catherine said nonchalantly, as if she didnât care that her data was stolen.
Zobber bit her lip, looking hesitant. She didnât know if she should say it, but she felt bad if she didnât.
With a sigh, Withal crossed his arms in front of his chest and said, âJust say what you want to say. Things have happened, and there has to be a result, right?â
With Withalâs encouragement, Zobber finally spoke out. âCatherine, there are not many hackers around the world who are as awesome as you. Especially since they were able to steal data directly without you even realizing it, right?â
Catherine gave her a sidelong glance and muttered, âYou suspect Ronin?â
Her cold voice struck a chord in everyoneâs heart.
Although Zobber didnât say it directly, that was really what she thought in her heart.
After thinking about it, she realized that only Ronin could get it done.
âCatherine, I⦠â Zobber looked at Catherine with a troubled expression.
She understood the relationship between Ronin and Catherine. She was worried it would hurt Catherine.
âNo need to guess. Itâs probably Ronin who did it,â said Catherine.
Although Zobber was skeptical, when it came out of Catherineâs mouth, it was a whole different story.
In her eyes, Catherine was like an authority figure. Catherine never spoke in ambiguity.
When she said that, she was basically confirming it.
âCatherine, are you really sure thatâs Ronin?â asked Zobber.
âYeah.â Catherine nodded. âSince youâre all here, Iâll give you an address. Bring him back, and Iâll ask him myself.
With that, Zobber received a message on her phone. She looked hesitant and asked Catherine, âCatherine, arenât you coming with us?â
The other party must be pretty strong. Otherwise, they wouldnât have been searching for so long and still found nothing.
Catherine responded with a poker face, âThe lab still needs me.â
Zobber knew that Catherine promised the other party that the experiment report would be modified within three days to lower the similarity rate.
There was no way it could be done in three days, but Catherine agreed to do it anyway.
âAlright, Catherine, focus on your work. Weâll go find Ronin,â said Zobber.
After hearing Catherineâs arrangement, Branden turned to look at Paxton.
Paxton immediately realized and followed Zobber to leave.
After everyone left, Branden walked up and gently patted Catherineâs shoulder. âDonât worry. Ronin will be brought back soon.â
Catherine nodded calmly without much emotion.
This made Branden, who had always known her, somewhat puzzled.
Catherine was way too chill about Roninâs disappearance, like she didnât even care about him.
Although he had doubts in his heart, Branden didnât continue to explore further. He believed that Catherine must have her own plans.
In the dim room, Ronin was sleeping soundly.
Suddenly, the door was kicked open, startling him and causing him to tumble out of bed. âDamn, who the hell doesnât even know how to knock on the door?â
Finn brought some people with him and stood at the door with a fierce look, yelling at Ronin, âHurry up and come with us.â
Facing the eager Finn, Ronin seemed much more laid-back, slowly getting up from the bed. âAre we switching up the places again?â
Finn didnât answer but urged impatiently, âHurry up. Donât make me use force on you.â
âSo urgent. Did Zobberâs people come for us?â Even though he was still joking around, Roninâs actions were fast.
In no time, they walked out from downstairs.
There was a sound of fighting outside. Roninâs face tightened. He looked at Finn in a panic. âDid Zobber come here?
Seeing his nervous expression, Finn couldnât help but angrily retort, âSo what if she did? If you want to escape, Iâll be the first to kill you.â
Ronin didnât respond to Finn but asked him another question, âWhereâs the car?â
âWhy are you asking about this? Are you trying to run away?â Finn frowned as he sized him up.
âQuit the nonsense. Just tell me already. âRonin was getting impatient, and his attitude was very forceful, which intimidated Finn.
After Finn told him the specific location, Ronin immediately ran away.
Finn chased after him, afraid that Ronin might run away.
After getting in the car, Ronin didnât drive off immediately but waited for Finn to get in. Then he drove away, which just left Finn dumbfounded. He sat next to Ronin like a fool.
âDamn! We missed them again.â
Zobber was so damn pissed after not finding Roninâs whereabouts.
Paxton found the surveillance here. Ronin and Finn left in such a hurry that they didnât even have time to destroy it.
He handed over the surveillance to Zobber and gestured for her to check it out.
Zobber was still puzzled. âWhy are you asking me to look at this?â
âI just saw a figure that looks a lot like Ronin leaving, so I checked the surveillance footage. Take a look for yourself,â replied Paxton.
Hearing what Paxton said, Zobber felt a little weird, so she opened the monitor and checked it carefully.
After she saw the footage of Ronin running crazily on the surveillance camera, she couldnât help but curse, â This bastard. He runs faster than a car. We came to save him, and he actually ran away. Is he feeling guilty for something? Otherwise, why would he run?â
Zobber became increasingly angry, originally thinking that Ronin had been subjected to inhuman treatment to betray them. But from what happened right now, Roninâs movements were still agile, and there were no visible wounds on his body. He even looked like he had gained some weight. There were no signs of him being abused.
If Ronin betrayed Catherine for money, Zobber would definitely be the first one to finish him.
