Chapter 861 Hidden Schemers
Branden sent, [What do you want?] However, he didnât receive any response.
Branden believed that the person sending the photos had a more complex agenda, and they would surely reach out again. It was likely just a tactic to keep Branden on edge and foster various suspicions.
Since that was the case, there was no need to bother with the person hiding in the shadows. Branden decided to wait patiently for the next move.
Branden turned off his phone and pulled Catherine into his embrace. With her right there in front of him, there was no need to pay attention to those hidden schemers.
After a restful night, Catherine woke up feeling refreshed.
When Catherine entered the living room, Branden didnât even notice her. â Whatâs for breakfast?â she asked.
Hearing that, Branden turned around with a frying pan in hand. âYouâre up so early. Donât you want more sleep?â
As she smelled the aroma of bacon emanating from the frying pan, Catherineâs appetite was instantly triggered. âI slept well last night. Now I canât sleep anymore.â
Seeing through her intentions, Branden quickly increased the heat and ushered her out of the kitchen. âWait for me outside. It wonât take long!â
âOkay. Iâll go freshen up,â Catherine replied.
Catherine thought that Brandenâs culinary skills seemed to be improving.
Although breakfast options were not extensive, they were all dishes she loved, and the taste exceeded that of takeout.
âAfter breakfast, shall I take you to school?â Branden asked.
âNo need. Head directly to Audreyâs apartment. She drank a bit too much last night, and I want to check on her,â Catherine said.
Hearing that, Branden frowned. âDonât you still need to revise the experimental report?â Branden couldnât comprehend Catherineâs attitude. He thought time was already tight, yet she appeared calm and unhurried.
âNo rush. I still have some time. I donât have any ideas now, so forcing it wonât help. Let me relax a bit,â Catherine replied.
This reasoning made sense. The pressure in the lab was immense. Feeling irritable was normal, and Catherine thought it might be better to take a break. Perhaps it would help her gain more inspiration.
âOkay. After we finish eating, Iâll drop you off at the apartment and then head to the company,â Branden said.
Initially, Catherine wanted to suggest that he shouldnât bother and go straight to the company. However, she gave up on the idea, realizing he wouldnât agree even if she said it. Then she replied, âAlright. Just do as you say.
After breakfast, Catherine packed some food for Audrey and set off for Audreyâs apartment. This time, she didnât see Brian downstairs. He likely returned after enduring a sleepless night.
Unexpectedly, in the hallway in front of Audreyâs apartment, Catherine ran into Triston. Judging from his disappointed expression, he seemed to have faced setbacks.
Catherine was indifferent to the matters between Triston and Audrey. She looked at him coldly and said, â Brandenâs car is still downstairs. If you go down now, maybe you can catch a ride.â
Catherine was Audreyâs sister, and Triston had initially thought about asking Catherine to speak positively on his behalf in front of Audrey. However, knowing Catherineâs temperament, Triston silently gave up on that idea. Getting Catherine to speak for him was impossible.
Seeing Catherine carrying a lunchbox, Triston sighed and muttered, âTake care of her. If possible, persuade her to give me a chance. At least, we need to talk face to face. Avoiding each other wonât solve anything.â
On this point, Catherine agreed. Evading the problem wouldnât help. If there were issues, addressing them directly would be better. She glanced at Triston, took out the key she found in the apartment, and opened the door right in front of him.
Triston took a step forward, seemingly ready to enter, but Catherine calmly glanced at him and said in a cold tone, â Want to fight with me?â
Triston, knowing he wasnât a match for Catherine, silently chose to back off. Seeing him retreat, Catherine glanced at him coldly and promptly closed the door.
Once inside, Catherine placed the food on the table and called out toward Audreyâs room, âCome out. Those who shouldnât have entered havenât.â
Upon hearing Catherineâs hint, Audrey slowly opened the door and walked out. She glanced around, ensuring she didnât spot anyone she didnât want to see. Then she finally relaxed her tense nerves.
Seeing Audreyâs reaction, Catherine mockingly asked, âYou donât trust me now?â
Audrey shivered at the remark. She hurriedly ran over, hugged Catherineâs arm, and explained, âKathy, donât misunderstand. I didnât mean that. I was just afraid that some persistent person might follow you in. If I didnât believe you, I wouldnât have come out of the room, right?â
Catherine didnât dwell on the topic. She turned her head to glance at the food on the table. âMade by Branden. Tastes pretty good. Give it a try.â
Audrey smelled the aroma as soon as she came out. She had been vomiting continuously since being abruptly awakened early in the morning after drinking too much the night before. She had considered ordering takeout. But she abandoned the idea. She feared that Triston might take the opportunity to enter. Fortunately, Catherine arrived in time and brought her some delicious food.
Audrey rushed over and opened the lunchbox. As she saw the food, her mouth watered. âKathy, thanks to you. Otherwise, I wouldnât have the chance to taste the delicacies personally made by Mr. Duncan.â
After taking a bite, Audrey couldnât help but praise, âMr. Duncanâs cooking skills are amazing, comparable to a five -star hotel chef. Itâs so delicious.â
Catherine sat on the side, flipping through a magazine. Her main purpose in coming was to check on Audreyâs condition. As long as Audrey was fine, she could head to the laboratory with peace of mind.
After Audrey finished breakfast, Catherine prepared to leave.
âKathy, wait for me. Iâll go out with you,â Audrey said.
Catherine raised an eyebrow and sized her up. âDidnât you say you have the day off today?â
Audrey mentioned that she would take a few days off before starting work. That was why they ended up drinking so much last night.
Audrey couldnât help but wail, âKim called early in the morning for help. Iâve been away for so long, and Kim has been carrying the load alone. Can I refuse him? I canât!â
Seeing Audreyâs helpless look, Catherine smiled quietly. âLetâs go. Iâll take you.â
After dropping Audrey off at her destination, Catherine drove Audreyâs car to the school. Since Audreyâs car couldnât enter the campus, she parked it in the outdoor parking lot near the entrance and walked in.
As soon as Catherine reached the school gate, she bumped into Rylan.
Rylanâs eyes lit up when he saw Catherine. âCatherine, it seems weâre destined to meet like this.â
Catherine didnât say anything. She glanced at him and walked straight into the campus.
Rylan followed closely behind, and Catherine was annoyed by his persistent pursuit. Turning around, she took direct action. Her movements were too fast for Rylan to avoid, and he was slammed to the ground with a powerful suplex from Catherine.
Looking down at him, Catherine coldly said, âStop following me, or next time, Iâll make sure you wonât get out of bed for three months.â Her warning was no joke. If Rylan dared not to listen, she was ready to follow through on her words at any time.
