Chapter 865 This Is My Boyfriend
Excitedly clutching the latest magazine, Amelia hurried to the office door of Catherine and knocked. âSuper Catherine, are you busy now? Can I come in?â
Catherine, engrossed in a lab report, looked up at the sound of Ameliaâs voice. âNot at all, come in!â
With Catherineâs permission, Amelia scurried inside. âSuper Catherine, check this out. Audreyâs official announcement, is she back? The new ad is stunning-she looks gorgeous!â
Amelia laid the magazine before Catherine, its cover graced by Audrey. Audrey and Catherine both got good looks from Racheal. So, Audreyâs beauty, even among stars in the entertainment industry, was a force to reckon with.
Audreyâs return was quite secretive, with no news disclosed to the public, so it was normal for Amelia to be unaware.
Catherine smiled faintly at the cover. She knew Audrey had stepped in to help Kim just yesterday and was surprised to see her gracing the magazine so soon.
âAudrey has only been back for two days,â Catherine informed Amelia.
Amelia, with raised eyebrows, expressed her surprise. âWow, she has secured this endorsement within two days of her return? Could the rumors be true?â
âWhat rumors?â Catherine inquired.
Amelia spilled, her eyes cautiously on Catherine. âThereâs gossip that Audrey landed the endorsement with the newly -established Loewe company in Eskana, because sheâs dating the boss. They supposedly met abroad and are rumored to be tying the knot soon.â
Although Ameliaâs source was the gossip magazines, the insider accounts were usually accurate and thus relatively reliable.
A frown creased Catherineâs brow. She stayed out of Audreyâs personal life, but if the boss behind the company was Brian as Amelia suggested, Audrey wouldâve rejected the project outright rather than breach a contract.
Deciding to get to the bottom of it, Catherine planned to visit Audrey that evening.
âIâm not clued in on her work matters, âCatherine replied.
Amelia knew Catherineâs stance, never meddling in othersâ private affairs, not even when it came to her sister.
âJust sharing some gossip. Carry on with your work. I wonât bug you anymore!â said Amelia.
That evening, Catherine wrapped up in the lab and received a call from Branden. Assuming he was picking her up, she was about to decline when he informed her of his late return.
âGot plans to paint the town red?â Catherine teased.
Branden chuckled. âDo I dare?â
âIâm grabbing a drink with Triston tonight,â he added.
Catherine frowned slightly at his explanation. âAgain?â
Branden sighed silently. âIt seems that the news about Audrey having a boyfriend has hit Triston hard.â
Despite Brandenâs reluctance to get involved, his bond with Triston was strong. He wouldnât leave Catherine unless Triston was truly struggling.
âA boyfriend? Did he get it wrong?â Catherine stared at him, uncomprehending.
âIt doesnât seem so,â Branden replied. â According to Triston, itâs confirmed.â
With so much news flying around, Catherine couldnât tell fact from fiction. She said, âYou go. I was planning to drop by Audreyâs apartment anyway.â
âOkay, Iâll pick you up when Iâm finished,â responded Branden.
After their brief call, Catherine left the university. Although Branden wasnât there, the driver from the Duncans was punctual, waiting at the entrance.
Seeing her, the driver promptly opened the car door. âPlease get in the car, Miss Swann.â
After settling in the car, Catherine directed the driver to Audreyâs apartment.
Before long, they arrived at Audreyâs apartment. Finding the door shut tight with no response to her knocks, she guessed Audrey wasnât in. As Catherine was about to turn away, the elevator doors opened behind her.
Turning around, she saw Audrey stepping out of the elevator with Brian. Audrey seemed startled to see Catherine and quickly lowered her head, looking guilty.
Brian greeted her with a cheerful smile, âCassie, what a coincidence to find you here!â
Catherine responded coolly to his over- familiarity, âWe arenât close enough for such intimacy. Please, call me Miss Swann or Catherine.â
Brianâs smile froze, and he stood awkwardly, not knowing how to react.
Catherine eyed Audrey silently. Feeling the pressure of Catherineâs gaze, Audrey finally raised her head, forcing a smile. âKathy, what brings you here?â
Instead of replying, Catherine kept scrutinizing her.
Brian, perhaps to assert his presence, wrapped an arm around Audreyâs waist. âArenât you going to introduce me to Catherine?â he suggested.
Catherine didnât miss the flicker of discomfort on Audreyâs face. After a brief silence, Audrey smiled and said, â Kathy, let me introduce you. This is my boyfriend, Brian.â
Brian then added with a smile, â Fiancé, to be more precise.â
âMiss Swann, do you still find my form of address too intimate?â
Though Brianâs smile was suave, Catherine couldnât shake off a profound sense of repulsion.
âSo, youâre Audreyâs fiancé, how does that concern me?â Catherine retorted, â If youâre unfamiliar with my disposition, I suggest you do some homework.â
Brianâs practiced smile could not withstand Catherineâs frosty tone, and his eyes swiftly cooled to a glacial stare.
Sensing the mounting tension, Audrey stepped in to prevent any conflict. âMr. White,â she said.
Before Audrey could continue, Brian interjected, âWhy so formal?â
Audrey, looking extremely uncomfortable, said, âBrain, Kathy is rather reserved. Why donât you head back, and Iâll chat with her later tonight.â
Brian didnât trouble Audrey further. He tenderly stroked her hair, softly saying, âAlright, but remember, we are to be married. I do hope for your familyâs blessing.â
With that, Brian departed the apartment, and Audrey trailed Catherine into the room. The time now came for a sisterly heart-to-heart.
