Chapter 870 Audreyâs Secret
âDonât worry, even if they donât get back together, itâs not because of you,â said Paxton.
The certainty in his tone confused Zobber. She tilted her head to study him, trying to get a clue from his expression. âWhat does that supposed to mean?â asked Zobber. âYou act like you know something about them.â
Seeing that Zobber was still bemused, Paxton decided to tell her the truth. â Audrey has a boyfriend now.â
Zobber was stunned by the sudden news. Then she came to her senses. She looked at Paxton in shock and asked, â For real? Like a new boyfriend?â
âFor what I can tell, yes.â Paxton also found it fishy, so he cautiously chose his words. âWell, Audrey said so to Miss Swann. I donât know the details.â
Zobber knew Paxton very well. Although he put on a poker face daily, he was reliable. If he said so, it would very likely be the truth. However, Zobber still felt sorry for Audrey and Triston. They were once a lovely couple, but unfortunately, they had separated. To think how awkward it would be for them to meet in the future.
Anyway, what Paxton said did unburden her. She was afraid that she might become the reason they broke up. But when it came to love, it was a matter that concerned only the two of them.
She took the gun from Paxtonâs hand and raised one eyebrow at him with a smile. âThanks.â Then she swiftly left.
Paxton looked at her from behind, his lips curled at the corners, with a helpless expression.
It was kind of awkward in the box. Audrey sat there for a while and couldnât help but feel uncomfortable. She told Catherine she wanted to leave early.
Immediately, Catherine stood up and said, âIâll send you home.â
But they only gathered here to celebrate for Catherine. How could she ask Catherine to send her home? â
Donât bother. Iâll call an Uber. Itâll be quick. You stay here and have some fun. I donât want to be the party pooper. I would love to stay, but my work has exhausted me.â
Catherine was well aware of why she wanted to leave, but she did not say anything.
âMy driver will send you home.â Branden proposed.
Catherine asked to send Audrey home mainly to ensure her safety. Audrey was a celebrity usually stalked by fans. But Brandenâs drivers were all well- trained. They would do it just fine. So she agreed to Branden.
Audrey agreed as it would reassure Catherine. âThat would be great. You guys can have fun here.â
Branden walked her out while Catherine was sitting in the corner and looking at the party people. Withal slowly moved to her. Sensing his movement, Catherine turned to him. â You got something to say?â
Withal slightly nodded. âYep. I have been out of touch with Wantells for a long time. Iâm worried about him.â
âFor how long exactly?â asked Catherine.
âAt least for a week.â Withal frowned in concern.
But Catherine was not entirely surprised by this news. She was so calm, as if everything was in control. â Itâs just typical Wantells. He loves to disconnect from the world. There was a time when I could not reach him for half a year. But he came to me at last.â
Withal was going to argue that this time was different. But he shut up anyway when he sensed Catherine had no intention of continuing on this topic.
He wouldnât have even noticed if Wantells had been gone for half a month before. If there was one thing in common among the members of the Hacker Alliance, it was their dislike of being tied down. It was common for them to vanish for months and cut off contact with everyone. But once they were on a mission, they would not disappear for no reason.
The Hacker Alliance was experiencing turbulent times, and Wantells knew the situation. It would be odd if he disappeared at this point.
What was even odder was Catherineâs attitude. Withal thought, âIf I can see through this, so can she. But she doesnât look worried about Wantells at all. Does she know where he is?â
Despite her young age, Catherine had a deep thought. Or else, she wouldnât have become the leader of the Hacker Alliance at a young age and won everyoneâs trust.
Withal decided to believe in her.
Brandenâs driver drove Audrey to her apartment building. She wanted him to go back directly, but the driver refused.
âNo offense, Miss Swann, but Mr. Duncan had made it clear that I must send you home.â
Audrey grinned. She knew they could not disobey Branden. And Branden placed the order because he was worried about her safety.
Audrey didnât argue anymore and went upstairs with the driver. When the elevator door was about to open, the driver stepped forward, blocking her behind with one hand on his waist. â Miss Swann, if anything happens, run straight to the car. Donât worry about me.â
The cars of the Duncans were all well- equipped. It would be a perfect place to hide.
Audrey nodded silently. She knew the driver must have sensed something. Otherwise, he would not be on guard.
It got tenser as the door opened slowly. The driver was ready to attack when the door was fully open.
âAud, you are home.â The driver cautiously looked at the man standing by the door, studying him with his eyes.
Seeing Brian at the door, Audrey explained to the driver. âItâs okay, heâs my boyfriend.â
The driver relaxed a little at her words. Brian looked up and down at the driver and pulled Audrey into his arms.
Audrey was instinctively reluctant. But she compromised when she looked into his gaze. Sensing Audreyâs abnormality, the driver did not leave right away.
Brian was provoked. He frowned and said, âWhy arenât you leaving?â
The driver didnât move at all. He was waiting for Audreyâs instruction. It got awkward. So Audrey said, âIâm home already. You can go back now. Iâll text Catherine later.â
With that, the driver left.
Audreyâs smile wore off after the driver left. Her face turned frosty. âDidnât I ask you not to come anymore?â
Her frosty attitude made Brianâs face darken. âAudrey, donât forget who you are.â
