Chapter 883 A Funeral for Them
The next day, Ronin returned to school. The school had been publicly stating that Winston was on sick leave, so no one knew about Roninâs connection to his disappearance. However, the police did inquire about Winston when Ronin returned. It was unclear how Ronin responded, but he was released.
By the time Ronin got back to school, it was already noon. He went straight to the laboratory building to wait for Catherine. To his surprise, he saw someone unexpected there.
âRylan, what are you doing here?â Ronin asked in surprise.
âRonin, youâve been gone for quite a while. Why the sudden appearance today?â Rylan inquired.
Ronin smiled shyly. âI had some things to take care of recently, so I took a long leave from school. Are you waiting for Catherine?â
âYeah,â Rylan replied, looking Ronin up and down as if searching for something.
Just then, Catherine emerged from the lab, interrupting their conversation.
âCatherine, why didnât you tell me Ronin was back?â Rylan asked.
âCatherine, why didnât you tell me Rylan came to Loxton?â Ronin inquired at the same time.
Catherine glanced at both of them and said, âSince when did I have to pass on messages to you?â
Ronin immediately approached her with a smile, trying to make things seem just like they used to. âCatherine, thatâs not what I meant. Please donât misunderstand.â
After a brief conversation, Ronin suggested they all go out for a meal.
Although Catherine increasingly disliked Rylan, she agreed to his proposal out of consideration for Ronin. After Roninâs return, everything seemed to go back to the way it was. He considered Catherineâs preferences, found a good restaurant, and they all set off together. Ronin seemed very interested in Rylan, and Rylan was unusually friendly to Ronin. The two of them excitedly conversed while Catherine sat quietly, eating without speaking.
The harmonious scene prompted Rylan to exclaim, âIt feels like Iâve gone back to the time when we first met. Itâs wonderful!â
The next moment, Catherineâs phone rang. After taking the call, she told them, âYou guys keep eating. I have to go.â
âCatherineâ¦â Ronin put down his fork and stood up, but Catherine had already left. He could only sit back down and quietly complain, âEver since Catherine got together with Branden, Iâve lost my place.â
Hearing this, Rylan patted Roninâs shoulder and comforted him, âSheâs your leader. The only thing that matters is her happiness, right?â
Ronin gazed longingly in the direction Catherine had left, saying sadly, âSo am I destined to be the sacrifice for her happiness? I want her to be happy, but I donât want her to ignore me.â With that, he looked at Rylan and asked, âIf it were you, would you do the same to me?â
Rylan didnât answer, but his smile deepened.
Catherine received a call from Branden. He knew Ronin had returned and that she had lunch with him today. He waited until they were almost done eating before calling to say he was coming to pick her up. Seeing her come out alone, he was curious, âWhereâs Ronin? Didnât he come with you?â
âSomeoneâs with him,â Catherine explained briefly.
Branden helped Catherine into the car. Once inside, she felt a bit bored and leaned on his chest, engaging in casual conversation with him.
âRonin should have sent you the evidence, right? What do you think?â she asked.
Branden glanced at her and planted a tender kiss on her forehead. âI donât have any thoughts. But since you believe in him, I will too,â he replied. If she didnât believe in Ronin, she wouldnât have allowed him back by her side. In that case, he didnât need to think too much.
Catherine hadnât expected this response from him. She thought he would analyze the situation rationally and then give his answer. âArenât you afraid I might make the wrong judgment?â she asked.
âHumph.â Branden chuckled lightly. So what? It doesnât matter.â After all, he would be there to support her decision. He wanted her to do whatever she wanted.
Catherine gave a meaningful smile. â Fine!â
Suddenly, their phones buzzed. After answering the calls, they exchanged a glance.
âTriston is in trouble,â Branden said.
âAudrey wants to see me,â Catherine told him.
Catherine shook her head helplessly, and Branden instructed the driver to change the route, knowing that Triston and Audrey should be in the same place.
Soon, Catherine and Branden arrived.
Audrey was in tears. When she saw Catherine, she threw herself into her arms, pleading, âKathy, please stop them. I canât do it! Make them stop!â
Audrey tried to move forward but was blocked by two bodyguards. In front of them, there was a platform where Triston and Brian were engaged in a fight, which seemed to have been going on for a while. Triston had been beaten up, his face black and blue. Brian had also taken some hits, but he seemed to be terribly injured.
Audrey, seeing Catherineâs lack of action, grew anxious. âKathy, why arenât you doing anything?â
Catherine snorted and shouted toward the platform, âTwo grown-ups act like kids. I donât think I can stop them. Let them fight, then Iâll organize a funeral for them.â
Audrey was stunned by Catherineâs words when Branden chimed in, â Thatâs right. You organize it, and Iâll fund it. Weâll make sure itâs a grand one.
The onlookers were dumbfounded, wondering if they were really here to help.
