HAPPY NEW YEAR GUYS🥳🥳🥳

Hello children of the most high. I hope you've been enjoying the whole gist so far. First I'll be dedicating this chapter to FavourMedahunsi I said I was going to since but I forgot 😂 I love you wifey 💖

Introducing a new POV in this chapter, one you will be seeing subsequently 😼. Enjoyyyy!!!

AMANDA'S POV

(Amanda Aderinsola Akinde)

My phone's ringtone woke me up when I just went to bed- who could be calling by 12 am in the morning, a school morning?

I check to see it is a video call from Aaron. I switch on my bedside light as I yawn repeatedly. I don't bother to fix my hair or check my face before I pick up the call

"Hey twerp" he grins as he lifts his head off his pillow to see me properly

"Broski I just started sleeping and there's school today" I say while still yawning

"I should let you sleep but no, I won't"

He starts to laugh like he's said the funniest thing in the world, how unbelievable can this boy be?!

"So how's your new school, any friends yet?"

"Yeahh, I have a friend called Nancy I call her Nana then there's Eddy"

"Eddy's a boy's name" he smirks suggestively

"We are just classmates, nothing else"

He chuckles still waiting for extra information. After a few seconds of rolling of eyes and grunting I finally say

"And yeah there's Toke and Erling, those two people irritate my guts ughh" I grunt in frustration as I rub my eyes

"Boys will always be boys, tell me if the issues become unbearable though, imma show up in your school and whoop some ass"

"Toke is a girl"

"Ehen, thought it was a boy"

We talk for two hours till it's 2 am. I check the time and gasp in shock. I tell my brother I have to go back to bed since I have school in a few hours. We say our goodbyes and I try to go back to sleep. I don't fall asleep till it's 4am and after what seems like minutes the time is 6am and my alarm rings for school. Well I guess the day just had to start with a headache

ERLING'S POV

(Erling Tobechukwu Kingston)

Staying in this house has become harder over the years. My dad never forgets to remind me of my screw ups every time he's around even when the house is already doing a good job with that. I walk into my study every morning to look at my trophies, the time when my life still had some meaning.

One night practically changed my whole life, redirected my future. It took my dream away from me, my purpose. The atmosphere is more pleasant now that the great Mr Kingston is not at home, probably in a different country in a different continent. For now it's just Idara and I with the house staff, driver and security guard. Exactly how it is supposed to be

I stare at my reflection on my bathroom mirror, my scar stares back at me. That's one thing that will stick with me for life to constantly remind me of the sort of screw up I am.

Today's another school day and I don't feel the least willing to step out of my house. These Senior Prefect duties are really getting to me, Aidan handles work well but teachers just always prefer to bug me instead. They've even become extra nosy since last year when the whole drama went down, thank God they don't know what really happened.

I put my white shirt on rolling my sleeves up to show my brand new Rolex and leave two of my buttons undone, it's basically my signature look. I run my fingers through my hair to untangle it a bit since I can't go through the stress of combing today. At least nobody is around to tell me to dress more formal.

"Idara I'm downstairs oh" I say as I walk past my cousin's room downstairs to the dining. She's probably still going to spend another 30 minutes to one hour controlling her edges and applying lip gloss. Girls can be so vain!! Somehow we still always get to school before assembly though, that's part of her superpowers probably.

The first class of the day is Chemistry, our teacher is too lazy to come to our class to teach so we always come over to the laboratory instead to have out classes. Amanda has been ignoring me for the whole day even when she barely knows me. But somehow she's so free when she's with Idara and Edmond even as she barely knows them too. All I wanted to ask her yesterday was if I could help her with the topics she didn't understand in mathematics, guess she's as stuck up as she looks. I was legit about to offer her a once in a lifetime's opportunity and she just ignored me, what a weirdo!.

"Why does Chemistry period always extend itself? We've been here for over 2 hrs now" Aidan grumbles next to me

"It's a double period, 45 minutes each, together that's 1hr 30 minutes and we've only spent 1hr 10 minutes, do your math well" I mutter while writing the note on the board

"The note is too much joor I'm tired" he says as he stretches lazily on the lab stool

"Tell your teacher to leave the class now shebi you have liver" I tease while still writing my notes

"Sir! The note is too long, we are tired" he complains to the teacher

Holy goggles, I didn't expect this dude to actually scream that for the teacher to hear

"SP was that you" Mr Bassey our teacher says

"Actually sir I..." I begin to stutter

"Okay then, only because the Senior prefect says so and he's the most serious student in this class" he covers his marker and faces the class.

The teacher just thought I was the one who spoke when it was actually this mutt who opened his dunghill to talk. He winks at me as the teacher settles down on one of the stools waiting for us to finish writing. One day I will still exchange my best friend for #100 recharge card.

"So we had a pop quiz on Friday, some of you did well, some okay then others very poor. A particular student even got zero in that simple thing" the teacher starts

Someone whistles from the back row. The teacher opens the scripts to read out the name of the student

"Please who is em Akinde? Akinde Amanda?" He looks up in expectance

Everyone looks in the new girl's direction, some even go as far as pointing. She gets up slowly but doesn't take her eyes off the slab

"Are you the one?"

She nods without looking up, he throws the script on the ground

"Come and have your script please" he then mutters something I can't pick out under his breath

She walks quickly and bends to pick her script before walking back to her seat, not taking her eyes off the floor throughout. I guess that was her own way of blocking out embarrassment. Even though I feel a little pleased that she'll realize she needs help now, I can't help but feel bad for her cos of the treatment by the teacher.

AMANDA'S POV

(Amanda Aderinsola Akinde)

Aidan yells at the teacher that the notes we are writing are too bulky and for the first time I'm happy about something he says. I drop my pen to stretch my fingers for a little bit when the teacher starts to talk again

"So we had a pop quiz on Friday, some of you did well, some okay then others very poor. A particular person even got zero in that simple thing" the teacher states

I hurriedly pick my pen up to start scribbling while quietly praying the teacher doesn't call the student's name out

"Please who is em Akinde? Akinde Amanda?" I bend my head down hoping everyone has somehow forgotten my name. But this children of God face me and some are even stupid enough to point. I take a few breaths then stand up without making eye contact with anyone

"Are you the one?" He asks with his tone laced with disgust

"No oh I'm not the one, I just felt like standing up to display nonsense!" Is exactly what I feel like saying. But instead I nod and wait for his next command

He throws my script on the floor before telling me to pick it up, sick right?

"Come and have your script please"

I start to stumble forward

"How will you have a transfer student only to be disgracing you" he mutters under his breath as I bend down to pick my script.

I feel a sting in my chest as a lump forms in my throat. I should have gotten used to these comments why do I still feel this bad? These Abuja people too are wicked sef kilode? My school in Lagos was never this harsh. They always implied it in some way but never outrightly insulted me. I feel bad enough that I don't comprehend how everybody does, I don't have a particular subject I'm good at. Even generally I'm lucky to get an average ever but these people don't understand, they never do. They all think I don't give enough attention to my studies when in real life I sleep with migraines by trying to just meet deadlines for assignments.

People have offered help out of pity many times but everyone gets frustrated when they see I'm unteachable, it's not my fault; it's my brain's. God decided to be unfair, my parents are both very intelligent people. They gave all their good genes to Aaron, I got the retarded brain, I wonder who's side of the family that one came from.

I grab my stuff and dash out the second I hear the bell sound. I barge into the ladies' room with tears clouding my vision. I almost bump into Nancy washing her face

"Trip are you okay?" A startled Nana says

I take two steps closer to Nana as the sniffs generate into sobs. I feel her arms go around me as I start to weep

"Let it out baby, let it out" she places a palm at the back of my head and the other one my back tracing soothing patterns

1 hour later

We are both sitting on the tiled floors where I have poured my heart out on. I told her how education was the bane of my existence and how I never seem to get anything I'm taught

"Baby, you're gem. I've known you only for about three weeks now but I'll say you're one of the best friends I've ever made. Although you've not started competing yet, you're a demon when you're in the water"

I widen my eyes at her comparison

"Not a demon per se"

I laugh as I sniff, she joins me then faces me. She places her hands on both my shoulders

"You might not be cut out for all this school shit, but you are a genius in your zone" she gives me a tight smile then pulls me into a hug pulling back after some seconds, we return to our initial positions

"Thanks for everything Nana"

We both sigh and and bask in the comfortable silence between us

"Why were you washing your face anyway?" I ask remembering the state I met her in when I came into the lavatory

"Uhm.. uh I just felt like" she stutters

"Ahan you.." I start to say

"It was nothing Trip" she cuts in sharply

I sense she doesn't want to talk about it so I change the topic

"We have successfully missed two periods of class"

"Let's wait till the end of this period joor it's just about 15 minutes left" she grumbles

"I don't even want to attend in the first place I think I'd be having physics now, what about you?" I turn to face her

"Free period, same as the period before" she shrugs nonchalantly

I gasp loudly

"You slyyyy!!!"

We both start laughing. It starts from simple laughter, till both of us start hitting things and each other. We stagger as we try get up which makes us laugh even more. We end up laughing non-stop for the next fifteen minutes before dashing out to meet our last periods
