âThat should be the case,â Captain Zhao said. âI heard that Mr. Jiang is the guest physics lecturer at Xia City University.â
Nian Xi nodded her head. She had heard about this before, so she wasnât surprised. She still wondered if he was able to lecture given his personality. She shook her head and thought, Forget it. Iâm not going to think about it.
Since he asked Uncle Han to come over, he was making things clear. She also made herself clear that day. They wouldnât have anything to do with each other anymore.
After snacking, Nian Xi went back to her office to monitor the surveillance footage. This sort of detective work was the most labor-intensive and dry. It required her to be attentive and focused. She worked until around 11 p.m.
âI found it,â Chen Jing happily said. âThis should be the suspect. Look, his figure and his features are almost identical.â
âHmm, great.â Nian Xi nodded her head. Her eyes were sore from watching the screen. âHand it over to Captain. Weâre done here.â
Around midnight, Nian Xi left the station. When she got in her car, she looked around warily. She could sense someone watching her. After looking around for a long while, she couldnât spot anything amiss so she drove off.
...
After her car pulled away, the car window of a black sedan parked nearby lowered.
âMister, you gave up your right to sue Yilang Oda and waited here for eight hours just to catch a glimpse of her? Is it worth it?â Uncle Han asked with a sigh.
Jiang Yuning looked out the window in a daze. After nearly a minute, he wrote on his notepad, âShe looks pretty even when sheâs a mess.â
Uncle Han was surprised that was all he was thinking about after everything he had said. Miss Nian looked tired and unkempt.
âI heard from the people working at the station that Miss Nian is doing video detective work now,â he said. âItâs an extremely dry and tiresome job. She has to work overtime often. I think Miss Nian is quite exhausted.â
Jiang Yuning nodded his head and wrote, âI canât bear to watch her suffer.â
Uncle Han sighed. He didnât know what else to say. âIf you canât let her go, you should court her bravely.â
Jiang Yuning shook his head sadly and wrote, âI canât, she told me that she hasnât forgotten her ex-boyfriend. What if sheâs unhappy when sheâs with me?â
Uncle Han was stunned. How could there be anyone so silly? He said, âItâs normal to go after someone that you like.â
Jiang Yuning wrote, âIf she doesnât like me, I will only burden her with my feelings.â
Uncle Han was silent.
Jiang Yuning continued writing. âIâll wait. If she gets back together with her ex-boyfriend and theyâre happy, Iâll give her my blessings. If they donât end up together, I will go look for her. I wonât let her be lonely.â
Uncle Hanâs heart ached. If Miss Nian knew his thoughts, she would be very touched.
âHow could you bear to withstand the hurt by yourself?â he asked.
Jiang Yuning thought for a moment and wrote, âItâs OK if Iâm hurt. I just donât want her to be unhappy.â
Uncle Han had only one word in his mind: silly.
When Nian Xi got home and opened the door, a small shadow ran toward her and happily barked.
âJiang-jiang!â Nian Xi patted the puppyâs head.
Jiang-jiang raised its head and looked at her pitifully. Its tail was wagging.
Nian Xi picked the puppy up. She felt melancholic. Someone like Jiang Yuning was destined to by a passer-by in her life.
...
A week later, the nanny van was downstairs. Yan Su got into the vehicle.
Jiaojiao looked at her and said, âYouâve gained some weight.â
Yan Su blushed.
