Chapter 20: fight

I hung out with Nano, Christian, Samu and some other guys from our neighborhood. Carla was here, too.

„I promise you, she's alright", Christian tried to convince my brothers.

„She's not here without a reason", Samu replied annoyed, „Why does she have so many questions? She doesn't trust the two of us."

„Man, that's bullshit. She likes me."

Marina

I told my family that I'm pregnant from Nano

Guzman became really angry

I believe he's looking for him

I called Nano but his phone is turned off

please let him know

I don't want him to get hurt

I want to run away with him and be a family

I'm around him and let him know

Your brother just arrived with Ander and Polo ...

„Damn peasant boy, you may be able to mind up your brother and your sister but not me!", Guzman shouted coming closer to Nano which actually scared me on a variety of grounds, „First you steal from me and then you get my sister pregnant!"

With that, I had no idea where I should look at. Samu didn't know about this until now and he didn't know that I knew about it. But Guzman just hit Nano with a baseball bat in his stomach. The other boys and girls from our neighborhood became angry, too. Polo beat Christian multiple times, Carla tried to stop him. But my eyes landed on Ander who did the same as Guzman, fight against people like my brothers and I for no reason. And Samu who began to hit Nano.

„Ander, let's get away from here!", Guzman shouted again as soon as he saw that they were outnumbered.

„No, Ander, you stay here!", I tried to interfere and he looked at me with a sad look because he knew me too good and knew how angry I was but he still ran away.

So I decided to look after my brothers first and then follow him.

„Did you know it?", Samu held me by my arm a little too hard, „I asked if you knew it!"

My body was shaking, I knew I would be breaking his heart, „Samu.. I.. Nano, he-"

„I don't want to hear it! I thought you're my sister and that even when Nano is with or without us that we would stick together! Like we did when he was in prison. But you chose him over me. You're just like your rich friends", he spit before letting me stand there alone.

„Em, he doesn't mean it like that", Nano came to me but I stopped him.

„I don't want to hear it. Are you happy now? By the way, Marina wants to run away with you. Run away like you always do. I can't believe I've hurt Samu like that for you."

„No, Emilia, you didn't do-"

„I've got to look for Ander."

„There you are", I found him by following the other boys who just came out of the side street after they beat him up when I came there and gave him my hand to stand up.

„Can you be a little more careful?", he hissed in pain.

„You chose Guzman over me. I'm only here to be a good person and help you after what you've just done", I rolled my eyes in annoyance.

„I didn't chose him over you, Em. Don't say that. It's not true."

„Then why did you come here?", I suddenly shouted at him overcome by emotions, „Why did you hit people that I hang out with? Was there any reason for it? Guzman is mad about my Nano and Marina being together and Polo is extremely jealous of Christian and afraid of loosing Carla, alright. But you had no reason to pick up a fight with those people. And now you pay for it."

„What happened?", Nano and I came home to see mom being worried and Samu holding a towel against his neck, „Are you hurt?"

„Hurt, Nano? What do you think what we feel like, huh? This is the second burglary since you came back from prison. We don't know what they are looking for. Is this by chance? They could have killed your brother or me. Do you hear me? They could have killed your brother and they could have killed me or your sister if she was at home. Do you even care about us, huh?", mom shouted scared between two puffs on her cigarette so I sat down next to her to give her a hug and try to comfort her.

„Mom, ma, mamá", Samu spoke in between, „We should drink a cup of tea first."

„I could need a whiskey more than that", she hissed and walked away probably to get a bottle of whiskey from the kitchen.

„Let me see it", Nano threw his jacket on the table and slowly stepped towards Samu, „Come on."

I watched the two of them. When would this all be too much? When would anyone of us freak out?

„Mom has fudged."

„She was shaking."

„Her or you?"

„Both of us. I'm sorry about your watch."

„You don't have to be sorry. It wasn't here. Em, can you give me some cotton?"

„Of course", I nodded and stood up, I was glad they would still talk to each other.

„Who's got the watch?", I heard Samu ask but he knew it himself, „Ah, I understand. Great, the earlier you get the money, the faster you leave us. Right?"

„Keep still, Samu", I told him when I pat his cut with the cotton while watching my brothers slowly.

„Yes, we run away. The two of us, tomorrow."

„And why do you tell me that now?", Samu's voice became angrier.

„I just don't want to lie to you anymore or force Emilia to lie to you. I want to be able to look you into the eyes. I swear, from this day-"

Samu suddenly hit his fist against the table hard, „You won't lie to me anymore because I won't listen to you anymore. Not even a damn single word. And you won't drag our sister with you down anymore! You're nothing to me."
