Evening,
Vaidehi was clad in an oversized pastel blue shirt paired with white leggings. She had chosen this attire upon Viyansh's insistence that she wear loose and light clothing to alleviate the discomfort caused by her rashes. She did look adorable in the outfit, but at the moment, her demeanor was far from cute. Standing atop the living room sofa, hands firmly planted on her hips, she exuded an aura of anger and determination, as if she was ready to confront someone head-on. Someone occupied the sofa across from her, becoming the target of her intense glare.
Vaidehi: "Wait until my Ansh arrives. He will surely scold you for what you did."
Person: "I'm not scared of your stupid husband, and for God's sake, step down."
Vaidehi: "How dare you call Ansh stupid!"
In this scenario, Vaidehi was mainly engaged in glaring and expressing her discontent through words, while the other person reciprocated with a glare and an annoyed expression.
Viyansh's POV,
As I arrived home, I immediately noticed my Biwi standing on the sofa, seemingly in the midst of scolding someone. Although I couldn't discern the person she was addressing from my vantage point, I surmised it was likely Vihaan, as he was the only other individual who might be home at this hour. And talking about my Jaan, it seems like every time I return home, she's either perched on the sofa, a table, or some other elevated surface for reasons known only to her. Alternatively, she'll be bustling about the house, often trailing behind Viraj or Virat. But I can't complain because she's the one who's turned this house into a home. It's become a part of my routine to find her jumping or hopping around, and it's a comforting sight. Looks like today she's in the mood to give Vihaan a piece of her mind.
Approaching her, I stood before her, and she met my gaze.
Vaidehi: "Annshhh"
Viyansh: "Kahiye Ansh ki jaan." (Yes, my love, what is it?)
Her cheeks adorned with a subtle blush, accompanied by a shy smileâa sight that always warmed my heart.
Vaidehi: "Achcha hua aap aa gaye main na aapka hi wait kar Rahi thi aapko pata hai ...."
(Thank goodness you're here, I was waiting for you. You know...)
Interrupting her, I posed my question.
Viyansh: "Jaan tum aise har waqt kahi bhi kyu chadh jati ho gir jaogi tum, niche utaro aur batao tumhare rashes hai ya gaye."
(why do you always climb up anywhere? You'll fall. Come down and tell me, are your rashes still there or gone?)
Just as I was about to reach for her shirt near her neck to investigate, she halted my movement by placing her hands on my shoulders.
Vaidehi: "Anshhh"
Her eyes downcast, she appeared bashful, perhaps due to our surroundings in the living room.
Viyansh: "Anyways niche utariye aap pehle." (come down first.)
I embraced her waist, lifting her gently before setting her back down.
Viyansh: "Ab ye lijiye." (Here you go.)
I handed her the bouquet of roses and strawberries I had bought for her. Instantly, her face lit up with the most heartwarming smile, the kind that made me feel like I could do anything.
Vaidehi: "Ayyyyy thank you Ansh."
She jumped and hugged me tightly, and I tenderly caressed her hair before planting a kiss on her forehead. Looking up at me due to our height difference, she smiled.
Viyansh: "Anytime bachcha, ab ye batao ye uper chadh ke kya kar rhi thi?? Tumse Shanti se raha nahi jata na?"
(Anytime, my love. Now, tell me, what were you doing up there? Can't you stay calm without causing a ruckus?)
Vaidehi: "Aapko pata hai..." (You know...)
Once again, I interrupted.
Viyansh: "Have you taken your medicine? And I hope you haven't done anything foolish to hurt yourself. Are those rashes gone, or should we visit the doctor?"
I asked her a series of questions, considering her allergic reactions and her tendency to be clumsy, which often leads to accidents.
Vaidehi: "Ansh aap meri baat hi nahi sun rahe hai."
(you're not listening to me at all.)
She looked up at me with pleading eyes, reminding me to stop bombarding her with questions and wait for her response.
Viyansh: "Sorry bachcha, bolo ab kya hua hai."
(Tell me now, what's going on?)
As I observed her, I noticed a sudden shift in her expression, from soft and gentle to outright anger. She set the bouquet aside and resumed her previous stance, hands firmly planted on her waist. It was a sight that often made me smile inwardly, finding her adorable even in moments of fury. But experience had taught me that commenting on her cuteness in such moments was likely to backfire, inviting her wrath instead. So, I wisely chose to remain silent, appreciating her fiery demeanor from a safe distance.
Vaidehi: "Ansh is insaan ne mujhe bahaut daraya hai."
(this person has frightened me a lot.)
She said, pointing towards the other sofa. I shifted my gaze in that direction and was taken abackâit wasn't Vihaan sitting there. I mentally berated myself for forgetting that I had been the one to invite him over.
Vaidehi: "Ansh he says he's your best friend ek....ek do aisa kuch toh naam bataya tha."
(he mentioned a name)
Person: "It's Eklavya you little bunny. "
Vaidehi: "Ha ha vahi, Ansh inhone mujhe daraya aap datiye inhe."
(Yes, that's the one. Ansh, he scared me; you scold him.)
Eklavya: "Your husband can't scold me little bunny I already told you."
Eklavya said in his calm voice, but I sensed that he wasn't going to let me off easily this time. He had been away for work for the past three months, and I hadn't informed him anything about Vaidehi. He knew I was getting married, but beyond that, he was unaware of any details.
Vaidehi: "You just wait."
She said to Eklavya before turning her attention back to me.
Vaidehi: "Ansh, he frightened me with this terrifying mask."
Viyansh: "Ahhh."
She showed me the mask, and even I got scared for a moment, shooting him a look of disbelief.
Vaidehi: "I was so scared."
She said with a slightly shaky voice, and when I glanced at her, I noticed tears welling up in her eyes, something I couldn't stand.
Viyansh: "What nonsense, Eklavya? Why did you scare her, you idiot? Apologize to my Biwi."
I scolded him firmly, knowing that this was the only way to make her feel better. Even though I knew those tears were likely fake, a ploy to make me scold my best friend, nothing mattered more to me than her happiness.
Author,
She playfully hid behind Viyansh, peeking out from behind him to see Eklavya, and mischievously stuck out her tongue to tease him.
Eklavya: "You little bunny, such a brat you are."
She stepped forward, once again placing her hands firmly on her waist as she directed a stern glare at Eklavya.
Vaidehi: "How dare you! And why are you calling me "little bunny"?"
Even Eklavya mimicked her posture and replied.
Eklavya: "Because from the moment I am here, you are just hopping around. Also, look at your height, you are so tiny."
While Eklavya chuckled at his own words, she responded with a frown.
Vaidehi: "Ansh, I'm not going to let him off the hook today."
She took a step forward, but Viyansh intervened, gently grasping her shoulders and pulling her back.
Eklavya: "Hey there! You owe me some thanks. You were nearly tumbling off the sofa twice, and I rescued you"
Vaidehi: "You were the one who scared me like hell, and I ran and stood there."
Eklavya: "It's not my fault you're easily frightened."
Vaidehi: "Ansh, call the cops and have him arrested."
Viyansh's gaze shifted back and forth between his wife and his best friend, and suddenly Eklavya burst into laughter.
Vaidehi: "Are you crazy? Why are you laughing?"
Eklavya: "What else am I supposed to do? You little bunny, you want your husband to call the cops to arrest an ACP?"
Vaidehi: "Who's the ACP here?"
Eklavya: "Are you that dump?"
Vaidehi: "Aap?? Aap ACP hai?? Shakal se toh constable lagte hai. Ek chor bhi pakda hai kya kabhi??"
(You? You're an ACP? You look more like a constable. Have you even caught a thief before?)
Eklavya stopped laughing and glared at her, while Viyansh chuckled along with Vaidehi.
Eklavya: "Did you just call me a constable?"
Vaidehi: "Kyu sach kadva laga ACP sahab."
(Why, does the truth sting, Mr. ACP?)
Eklavya: "You..."
They were interrupted by Viyansh, who was now fed up with their continuous banter.
Viyansh: "Stopppp"
He shouted.
Vaidehi: "Ansh ye.."
Viyansh: "Jaan 2 cups of coffee please."
Vaidehi: "Ansh only 2 cups?? That means for you and me.. ye aapke dost nahi piyenge??"
(Your friend won't have it?)
Viyansh: "Biwiii"
She giggled mischievously, and Eklavya shot her a playful glare in response.
Vaidehi: "Abhi layi, also I tried a new gujrati snacks today. Aap baithiye main abhi lekar aati hu."
(I'll get it now. Also, I tried a new Gujarati snack today. You sit, I'll bring it right away.)
He nodded with a smile as she dashed off from the room.
Viyansh: "Jaana sambhal ke yaar bachcha." (be careful)
Vaidehi: "haa haa." (Yeah yeah)
He glanced back at Eklavya.
Viyansh: "Sit."
Eklavya: "What's all this?"
Both of them settled on the sofa in the living room beside each other.
Viyansh: "Oh, come on, I've told you I'm getting married."
Eklavya: "Exactly. So where's your wife?"
Viyansh: "What do you mean by that? You just met Vaidehi."
Eklavya: "She's your wife? She's just like a 2-year-old kid in the body of a grown woman."
Viyansh: "Hey, you can't say that about my Biwi. I'm sorry for her behavior, but honestly, it was your fault for scaring her."
Eklavya: "I just wanted to have some fun, and I did. She's just like my Siya."
He said this, and his expression turned somber.
Viyansh: "Hey, are you okay?"
Eklavya: "Yeah, she just reminds me of Siya. Even she used to argue with me like her. I really miss her, buddy."
Viyansh: "There's nothing you can do about that, Eklavya."
Suddenly, he perked up and said.
Eklavya: "Yeah, but I can consider her as my Siya, my sister, right? She gives me that vibe."
Viyansh: "You can, but I don't think she'll accept it. She's very protective of Vihaan; to her, he's like an older brother. Vihaan was her senior in college."
Eklavya: "Interesting. It seems like I have a lot to learn about your life."
Viyansh: "That's the reason I called you here today."
Eklavya: "First, tell me, as far as I know, you were forced into this marriage because you never wanted to get married because of that Shruti. But looking at you both, I mean, do you love her?"
Viyansh: "Jaan hai vo meri, ek baar Bina saans liye reh sakta hu par apni Jaan ke bina nahi. Zindagi hai vo meri, mere jeene ki vajah ban gayi hai vo. "
(She's my life. I can live without taking a breath, but I can't live without her. She's become my reason to live.)
Eklavya: "Whoa, someone is really devoted."
Viyansh: "Yes, and don't you dare bother her anymore."
Eklavya: "I can't promise that. I'm enjoying teasing her, my little bunny."
Viyansh: "Excuse me, since when is she yours?"
Eklavya: "Oh, come on, man. I just said she's like my sister. And don't worry, I'll make her accept me as her brother and definitely annoy her."
He said with a grin, and Viyansh just chuckled. Then Vaidehi arrived and placed the tray on the tea table. Eklavya was about to grab a piece of Dhokla (Gujarati snack) when Vaidehi slapped his hand.
Eklavya: "Is this how you treat your guest, little bunny? Don't you know "Atithi Devo Bhava"?"
(The guest is equivalent to God)
Vaidehi: "I prepared this especially for Ansh, toh pehle vo khayenge . And you're not a guest here, Mr. Tall Giraffe."
(so he'll eat first.)
Eklavya: "Did you just call me a giraffe?"
He asked with a hint of softness in his voice as he recalled something. Viyansh was about to interject, but Vaidehi continued speaking.
Vaidehi: "You didn't like it? Should I call you constable?"
Eklavya: "You little bunny, even your husband is as tall as me."
Vaidehi: "Yeah, Par mere Ansh toh handsome hai, and you, you look like a dinosaur."
(but my Ansh is handsome)
Eklavya: "When did you see dinosaurs?"
Vaidehi: "In movies. But I prefer action movies more."
Eklavya: "Hey, me too. I love intense fight scenes."
Vaidehi: "Really? What's your favorite movie?"
Vaidehi sat between Viyansh and Eklavya, and both began discussing their movie preferences. Viyansh watched them with amusement because the way they were talking and laughing, no one could tell that they were arguing just a minute ago. The rest of the members of the Singhania family arrived. Eklavya sought blessings from Vikram and greeted Vihaan, Virat, and Viraj.
Viraj: "Eklavya bhai, when did you arrive?"
Virat: "Yeah, it's been so long since you visited us."
Eklavya: "Yeah, I was out for some work. You know, ACP on duty."
Vaidehi: "jo ek chor bhi nahi pakad sakta."
(Who can't even catch a thief.)
Vaidehi laughed along with Vihaan, Viraj, and Virat, who gave her a high five.
Eklavya: "Tum phir shuru ho gayi little bunny?"
(Are you starting again?)
Vaidehi: "Main band kab huyi thi?"
(When did I ever stop?)
Viyansh giggled at her remark.
They all settled in and engaged in conversation.
Vihaan side-hugged Vaidehi and introduced her to Eklavya.
Vihaan: "Eklavya bhai, meet my sister, Dahi."
Eklavya: "What Dahi???"
Eklavya burst into laughter upon hearing her name.
Vaidehi: "Ahaan bhai what is this?, aap aise kaise inke samne mujhe dahi bol sakte ho?? And you Mr. Tall giraffe stop laughing at me"
(Oh come on, bhai, how could you call me "Dahi" in front of everyone like that? And you, Mr. Tall Giraffe, stop laughing at me.)
Vihaan, Viraj, and Virat exchanged glances and then turned to look at Eklavya when Vaidehi called him "Tall Giraffe." They knew how much that name mattered to him, but they relaxed when he didn't react aggressively.
Eklavya: "you little bunny, Ye kya tall giraffe laga rakha hai, bada hu tumse Bhai bolo mujhe."
(You little bunny, why are you calling me "Tall Giraffe"? You're younger than me, so call me "Brother.")
The maid arrived with some tea and snacks for the rest of them.
Vaidehi: "Kyu bolu bhai aapko, mere bhai sirf Ahaan bhai hai aap nahi aur Aap bhi mujhe bhabhi boliye little bunny nahi."
(Why should I call you "bhai"? My brother is only Ahaan bhai, not you. And you should address me as "Sister-in-law," not "little bunny.")
Eklavya: "Lekin Viyansh chota h mujhse aur tum toh bahaut hi choti ho age aur height dono me."
(But Viyansh is younger than me, and you're much younger than me in both age and height.)
She shot him an angry glare in response.
Vaidehi: "Don't comment on my height, ok then main aapko tall giraffe bolungi Mr. Constable." (Then I'll call you "Tall Giraffe," Mr. Constable.)
She began giggling, and the others joined in with her.
Viraj: "But Eklavya bhai is correct bhabhi maa you are the shortest amongst us. Maine suna hai bhai bhi aapko Shorty bulate hai."
(I've heard even brother calls you Shorty.)
He said this in the moment and then realized what he said. Vihaan, Vikram, and Eklavya laughed at his comment, while Virat and Vaidehi glared at Viraj. Viyansh was just enjoying the ongoing banter, but when he heard that he calls her "Shorty," he got shocked and looked at Vaidehi with fearful eyes. She was already glaring at him.
Vaidehi: "Raj, you've broken my trust today. I'm not going to talk to you now. And Swami aapko toh hum baadme dekhte hai."
(and husband I'll deal with you later.)
She said in an extra sweet voice, which was enough for Viyansh to understand that she wasn't going to spare him.
Virat: "How could you, Viraj? Not only sweetiepie, but I'm also not going to talk to you either."
Viraj: "As if I'm dying to talk to you."
Vaidehi: "Veer, pakad is Raj, aaj iska muh zyada chal Raha hai."
(catch hold of this Raj. He's being too talkative today.)
Listening to this, Viraj ran from there, and Virat and Vaidehi chased after him. The entire living room echoed with their laughter and banter.
Eklavya: "Ye kisi ko asli naam se bulati bhi hai?? Sabke naam ka kya se kya kar rakha hai isne." (Does she even call anyone by their real name? She's turned everyone's names upside down.)
Vikram: "That's my ;adoo, she's turned this house into a home, Eklavya beta."
Eklavya: "I can understand, Uncle. She must have fulfilled your dream of having a daughter."
Vikram: "Yes, I've always wished for a little mischievous daughter, but she's a bit more than that."
Both of them chuckled warmly.
Viyansh: "Papa, agar biwi ne sun liya toh Viraj ke sath sath aapki bhi khair nahi, aur meri toh vaise hi shamat aayi hai aaj."
(Dad, if she hears about it, not just Viraj, but you're also in trouble. And as for me, I'm already in hot water today.)
Vikram: "Oh, yeah."
Eklavya: "Oh, someone can't even tolerate a word against his wife and is scared as well."
Then Vaidehi came and sat beside Vikram, while Viraj and Virat sat on each side of Vihaan, resting their heads on his shoulder, and they all heard Eklavya's words.
Viraj: "Eklavya bhai, you know what Hum toh ye bhi nahi keh sakte ki bhai aur bhabhi maa me argument huyi toh we'll support bhabhi maa.... Kyuki Bhai khud bhabhi maa ki side rehte hai."
(you know what? We can't even say that if there's an argument between bhai and bhabhi maa, we'll support bhabhi maa... because bhai himself is always on bhabhi maa's side.)
Vikram: "Nazar mat lagao tumlog meri bachchi ko." (Don't cast an evil eye on my little girl, you guys.)
Vaidehi grinned and side-hugged Vikram.
Vaidehi: "Popsy, main thak gayi." (I'm tired.)
He lovingly patted her head.
Vikram: "So, Viraj is forgiven?"
Vaidehi: "No, he's banned from our coffee dates. Now, only Veer and I will go."
Vikram chuckled at her antics.
Vaidehi: "Ok main dinner ki preparation karti hu aap sab fresh hokar aa jaiye."
(Okay, I'll start preparing dinner. You all freshen up and join us.)
She stood up.
Vaidehi: "Aur aap 'atithi devo bhava' aap bhi dinner karke jaiyega, Varna mere Ansh ko taana marenge ki kaisa dost hai khana bhi nahi khilaya."
(And you, "The guest is equivalent to God" you must also have dinner before you leave. Otherwise, you will tease my Ansh about what kind of friend doesn't even feed his guests.)
Eklavya: "Okay, little bunny. I want to see ki tumhe kuch khana banana aata bhi ya mera dost Roz bhukha sota hai."
(I want to see if you even know how to cook, or if my friend sleeps hungry every day.)
She placed her hands on her waist and glared at him.
Vaidehi: "You just wait and watch, tall giraffe. I won't spare you today."
With that, she went to the kitchen, while Viyansh and Eklavya headed to his study to discuss something important. The rest went to their respective rooms.
