Chapter 114 Gustave Calls Darlene Aurora
Gustave seemed to have not heard Darlene. He was very close to her and looked down at her carefully,
trying to see through her.
There was a deep confusion in his eyes. After a moment, he repeated, âAre you really
Darlene?â
Recently, Gustave was often puzzled about the similarity between Darlene and Aurora. He wasnât
familiar with Darlene, and Darlene didnât look like Aurora.
They were two completely different people, but somehow he felt there was a resemblance between
Darleneâs and Auroraâs expressions. He even thought that Aurora seemed to have the same mole as the
one Darlene had beneath the corner of her eye.
Even the mole of Abigail, who called herself Aurora, seemed to be in a different position
from Auroraâs mole.
And when Darlene roasted food in the backyard, her figure reminded him of the little. girl who stood on
her tiptoes in the kitchen of the orphanage and secretly helped him cook in the middle of the night more
than ten years ago.
Gustave hadnât seen Aurora for so long that he couldnât be sure. He could only rely on
his instinct.
Darlene looked at him. There was no space behind her. She couldnât avoid him, but she
couldnât call for help now.
She tried her best to calm herself down. âMr. Walpole, I am Darlene. Youâre drunk. Youâd
better call Darnell over.â
Drunk, Gustave was bolder than usual. He directly reached out and stroked the mole beside Darleneâs
eye.
âIs this mole something youâre born with?â
When his hand touched her, Darleneâs face became completely tense, and she said coldly, âMr. Walpole,
please behave yourself. I should go down. There are many people here. I donât want our relationship to
be misunderstood.â
Gustave was in a trance for a moment. He withdrew his hand and became a bit soberer. He took a step
aside to let Darlene pass.
××××××
âIâm sorry,â he said.
Darlene did not respond. She grabbed the bag in her hand and ran to the end of the corridor in a hurry.
Behind him, Gustave suddenly said, âAurora.â
Darlene paused. She did not turn around, nor did she walk again. She thought that she
heard him wrong.
She hadnât heard any person other than Reina call her Aurora.
To be exact, she hadnât heard anyone in reality, other than Reina, call her that. But there was one person
who called her like that in her dreams.
The person in her dreams addressed her as Aurora.
She remembered that the boy in her dreams called her Aurora when he held her and
swam back to the shore.
The voice was gentle and steady, making people feel so secure.
That voice⦠A thought flashed through Darleneâs mind.
She suddenly recalled that she had always found that voice a little familiar, but she couldnât remember
where she had heard it.
But now she suddenly realized that the voice was almost exactly the same as Gustaveâs.
The only difference was that Gustaveâs voice was more mature and firmer,
Darlene clenched her fists tightly and turned around. Her voice was a little hoarse. âWhat did you say?â
Gustave observed her reaction and approached her. âI met a person ten years ago. To be exact, it should
be twelve years ago. That little girl is called Aurora. Her full name is
Aurora Garcia.â
Darlene was shocked as she remembered Reina had said, âDarlene, your original name was Aurora.
Back then, the Gallard family disliked your old name, so they changed it. I
donât see there is anything wrong with the name âAuroraâ.â
Darlene froze for a moment. Her face turned pale. She stood there with a blank mind.
Suddenly, there seemed to be a wind carrying some memories and blowing through her mind. Strange
but somewhat familiar voices suddenly filled her mind.
âDidnât you hear them? I have so many scars on my face that I look like a monster. Arenât you afraid of
me?â
âYour scars will heal. My father fell from the sky and passed away. They all said that he looked terrible,
but I think he was still my father. He was not scary. Itâs a pity that he didnât survive. Death is whatâs truly
scary.â
âThen Iâll go to the kitchen to make you some food. You stand guard outside. If the director sees us, weâll
get hit by the stick.â
âAurora, do you want to leave with me? Iâm going home. I have nothing at home, but I have some pocket
money. I can cure your illness and buy you something you like.â
Darlene recalled another scene. It was a man coming out of the car at the door of the orphanage and
taking the teenage boy into the car.
âYour father has instructed you to go back first. It has been half a year. No matter how angry you are, you
should go back. I will take this little girl to the orphanage director to settle the formalities first. Then, Iâll
bring her to you as you wish.â
Darlene felt a stabbing pain in her head. Those memories overwhelmed her and made
her mind all mixed up.
Gustave couldnât see the expression on Darleneâs face clearly. The alcohol made his
vision a little blurred.
He tried to figure out Darleneâs reaction, but he couldnât think straight.
He didnât give up and asked her, âDarlene, you really donât know the person Iâm talking
about?â
Darlene came back to her senses and looked up. After all these years, she finally found the boy in her
dreams.
She opened her mouth. But as she was about to confess, she hesitated.
She remembered how Cassius smashed the teacup on the coffee table angrily in Gustaveâs villa.
Gustave was cut by the broken pieces of the cup which were thrown into the air. The blood on his face
was so shocking.
Darlene could still clearly remember Cassiusâ angry words. âYou should stop before you go too far. What
are you trying to do? If the contract with the Gallard Group is ruined, our company will probably lose
more than 170 million dollars. When did you become so stupid?
âI hand the entire Walpole Group over to you. There are so many executives and shareholders in the
company who have high hopes for you. You have disappointed me! Do you know how much effort I have
put into developing the Walpole Group? Do you have any idea how much effort your grandfather and the
entire family have put in?â
Darlene looked at Gustave. What benefit can I bring him even if I tell him the truth now that Iâm dying?
I would only drag him down and bring him harm. There is no point in telling him.
Now that Iâm about to die, whatâs the point of telling him who I am and making him suffer? I canât let
everyone who helped me suffer because of me.
Isnât what happened between Aleena and Nathen an example?
Darlene loosened her clenched fists.
She became indifferent again and said, âMr. Walpole, I donât know the person youâre talking about. I
really have to go.â
Gustave suddenly chased after her and reached out to grab her arm. âIf you donât know her, why did you
listen to me for so long and stand here for so long?â
Just as he reached out his hand, Avery, who had just found this place, walked over with a gloomy face.
Avery grabbed Darleneâs other arm and pulled her away from Gustave.
âMr. Walpole, youâre not easily drunk. Is it interesting to pretend youâre drunk and
misbehave?â
Avery turned back to look at Darlene behind him. âIs he the reason that you said you were maltreated in
the Gallardâs old mansion and wanted to go back on your own?â
