Chapter 131 One Cut
Gustave looked at Darlene. Even though she did not say anything, he felt as though he had heard
something.
He looked at her and asked before he knew why, âWhat did you say?â
The elevator doors in front of them had already opened. Avery urged with a sullen face, âMr. Walpole, if
you arenât getting in, please move aside.â
Gustave looked at Darlene, who was looking at him.
He unconsciously took a step to the side and let them inside the elevator. He had never seen Darlene
like this before. Her appearance was even a bit shocking.
The marks on her neck were very obvious. Gustave had a vague guess about what had happened to
her.
He was here for something. However, for some reason, he followed them into the elevator and even
forgot to press the button. He stood beside them and asked, âWhatâs wrong with Ms. Garcia?â
Averyâs eyes were scarlet. After a long time, Gustave could no longer control the strange feelings and
asked, âWho did this?â
Avery immediately glared at Gustave, his eyes filled with fury. Avery then said in an utterly cold and deep
voice, âWho else but Douglas? Stop playing dumb here.â
âDouglas,â Gustave said in a much softer voice, and he was almost muttering to
himself.
He thought, no wonder Shannon suddenly called me in the middle of the night. She told me that Douglas
was seriously injured and was in a critical situation. She wanted me to come over and take a look.
On the way here, I was still puzzled. Itâs the middle of the night, and Douglas never drives himself. How
could he be seriously injured?
Gustave slowly clenched his fists, and his eyes darkened.
When the elevator doors opened, since Gustave did not press the button, the elevator
reached the floor that Avery was headed to.
Avery carried Darlene to the ward, and Seth quickly rushed over. When Seth saw Darlene like this, he
gasped and said, âThis is?â
Avery placed Darlene on the bed and sat down by the bed. âCheck her and see if she has any other
injuries apart from skin injuries. She has been having great mood swings, and maybe she needs another
checkâup about her heartâ¦â
He hadnât finished speaking, and Seth had just approached the bed. Darlene had already tightly grasped
the quilt on her body, and her eyes were red. âGet out.â
Seeing that she wasnât doing well, Seth carefully suggested, âShe needs to calm down first. How about I
get the nurse to bring some tranquilizer?â
Losing it, Darlene grabbed the pillows behind her and threw them at those men. Her voice was trembling
as she said, âGet out! All of you, get out!â
Avery reached out to grab her wrist. âLet Seth take a look at you.â
Before his hand even touched her wrist, she seemed to have faced a great shock and frantically tried to
grab something from the bedside table.
However, there was no knife on the bedside table. Nothing was on the bedside table at
all.
She trembled as she retreated. Her knuckles were pale as she clung to the quilt. She looked at Avery as
if she was looking at Douglasâ ferocious face.
There was nowhere for her to retreat anymore. She looked at Gustave, who was still standing at the
door. In an instant, she was about to have a mental breakdown, and she cared about nothing.
She looked at Gustave, her eyes filled with begging. âHelp me.â
Gustave felt stabbed by something. He remembered that day in the deep sea, the same voice saying,
âHelp me.â
he heard
The voice echoed in his mind, saying, âHelp me, please. If you let go, I will die.â
Averyâs face was terrifyingly sullen. He clenched his trembling fists and smashed them
onto the soft bed.
He didnât make much noise. He didnât dare to smash his fists against the wall for fear of scaring Darlene.
â
He couldnât bear it anymore and stood up to instruct Seth, âKeep an eye on her. Darleneâs forehead was
covered in a cold sweat. Avery reached out his hand, and she dodged it in horror.
Avery did not say another word. He grabbed Gustave and walked out. Then he said to Gustave, âWhere
is Douglasâ ward?â
Gustave did not say anything instantly. Avery stopped in his tracks and turned around to stare at
Gustave. âIf you donât tell me, Iâll go ask others. If no one tells me, Iâll go ward by ward. Iâll kill him today
no matter what.â
Gustave said, âHeâs in the top intensive care unit, the one down the hall.â
Gustave wasnât trying to keep it from Avery. He was simply thinking about what Darlene had said. She
said to him, âHelp me.â
He did not know why, but he had a bad feeling. He felt that Darlene was already standing on the edge of
the cliff, and if he looked away, she would fall in the next
second.
Who was she? Who exactly was Darlene Garcia?
The question kept running through Gustaveâs mind.
While Gustave was lost in thought, Avery had already obtained the answer he wanted, so he had already
walked forward.
By the time Gustave went upstairs, the outside of the ward was already in chaos.
Douglas was injured, and only Gustave and Gustaveâs aunt, Shannon Walpole, were here
for him.
Right now, the bodyguards that Avery brought over were guarding Douglasâ ward. Avery
should have entered already.
Shannon was blocked by the bodyguards outside and could not go inside the ward. She anxiously
shouted, âAvery, are you crazy? It pays to kill! Even if Douglas is at fault, you have to leave it for the
police to judge!â
No one responded to her. Averyâs face was so gloomy that it was terrifying. Step by step, he approached
Douglas, who was still unconscious on the bed.
The cut on Douglasâ neck was a severe one, and he was still very weak.
He was half asleep, feeling uneasy, and somehow, he woke up with a start.
When he opened his eyes, he met Averyâs terrifying eyes.
Douglas was so frightened that his heart beat rapidly, and he almost couldnât catch his
breath.
He had even forgotten that he was seriously injured, let alone his pain. He watched helplessly as Avery
grabbed a fruit knife from the table, and his face immediately turned
pale.
Douglasâ voice was hoarse. As he desperately screamed for help, he rolled over and tried to get out of
bed. Since he was too flustered, he fell to the ground.
He was on the drip, and the needle was pulled out of the back of his hand directly. Instantly, there was a
piercing pain on the back of his hand.
Avery leaned over and easily lifted Douglas, who was on the ground. He swung Douglas against a
nearby wall and pushed Douglasâ back against it.
Then Avery pressed the blade against Douglasâ neck. Feeling that the spot wasnât good enough, he
moved the knife down so that the tip of the knife reached Douglasâ heart.
Douglas was scared out of his wits. Though he was a grown man, he pissed himself.
Douglas trembled violently as he called for help at the top of his voice, âShannon, Shannon! Please help
me. I know Iâm wrong. I swear! I shouldnât have been out fooling
around. Iâm sorry!
âPlease help me. I am your husband! I may die. It wonât be a big deal. But I donât want you to be a widow
at such a young age!â
Douglas was glib, which was why Shannon agreed to be with him in the first place. Now hearing him
saying such sweet words, she could no longer hold it.
She couldnât push away the bodyguards, so she could only turn to Gustave, who came from behind. She
said, âGustave, help Douglas, OK? Avery is crazy.
âThere are bodyguards downstairs, right? Call them up. And get the hospital security, too. Get inside the
ward now!â
Gustave did not respond at all. After a long while, he said indifferently, âShannon, he had it coming.â
Shannon froze. She had no time to criticize Gustave and could only shout at the top of her voice,
âSomeone, help!â
In the ward, Avery kept moving the knife in his hand down. Douglas felt a chill between his legs, and he
was utterly frightened.
Avery looked at Douglas. âOne cut and weâll call it a day.â
