Chapter 188 The Night He Died
âIn less than five days, when you get divorced, I will get you out of this place.â Gustaveâs words were
undoubtedly a fuse, igniting the anger and uneasiness that Avery was trying to suppress.
Averyâs face was gloomy. He immediately undid his cufflinks and approached Gustave. âYou donât have
the right to interfere with the matters between us. Are you bored with nothing to do all day?â
Gustave smiled, waiting for him to come closer.
Seeing that they were about to fight, the nurse said anxiously, âThis is the ward. Please donât mess
around. The patient still needs to rest.â
Gustave felt that this was reasonable. He took off his suit jacket and put it on his arm, walking outside.
âThen letâs go out and talk, Mr. Gallard.â
As soon as they went out, they closed the door and started fighting.
Cyrus and the bodyguards were frightened and immediately stepped forward to dissuade them. âMr.
Walpole, Mr. Gallard, whatâs wrong? Donât be like
this.â
Avery glanced at him impatiently. âNo one is allowed to interfere. Stay away!â
Darnell was actually more willing to watch the show. It was rare to see Gustave beat someone, so he
thought that it was fun.
However, when he saw that the bodyguards and housekeepers had already stepped forward to stop the
fight, he also walked over to persuade them halfâheartedly, âMr. Walpole, maybe you guys can have a
talk.â
Gustave raised his palm to block Averyâs punch, then swung a punch over with
a calm voice. âItâs fine, and donât worry about it.â
Darnell immediately nodded and stepped back to watch.
Darlene stayed in the ward, worried that something might happen. When the nurse finished changing the
dressing for her, she immediately tried to get out of bed and go out to take a look.
She had never seen Gustave beat anyone before, and she was worried that he would be beaten up by
Avery.
After the nurse walked out, Aleena immediately walked in to stop Darlene. âWhat are you going to do?
Avery is already furious! He may hurt you.
âDonât worry, Mr. Walpole will be fine.â
Darleneâs expression was a little anxious. âAvery will show no mercy.â
Even if Gustave could beat him, Gustave might still hold back a little, afraid of causing a big fuss.
However, Avery would not be so kind. The things he did to Darlene were enough to prove that he was
simply insane.
Aleena helped her sit back on the bed. âAlright, alright. Take care of yourself first. Both of them will be
fine. Nothing will happen to them.â
Darlene wasnât at ease. She listened to the chaos outside, but the nurse had just changed her dressing,
so she still felt some pain. In the end, she didnât go
outside.
Aleena sat down beside her. She looked at the watch and said, âI have to go later. I still have things to
do. I will come to see you after I am done with work.
âYou have to endure it for the last two days. The second trial of your divorce case is about to start. When
you guys are divorced, that jerk will completely have nothing to do with you. You donât have to worry
about it anymore.â
Darlene nodded. Looking at her from such a close distance, she noticed that
Aleenaâs eyes were a little red as if she had cried.
Darlene thought of something. âYou donât have to worry about me. Today is
Braydonâs death anniversary, right?â
Aleena replied indifferently, âYes, there are no photos of his tombstone. Itâs just a wordless monument.
Other than me, no one knows where his tomb is. If I donât go and take a look, no one will go.â
Darlene reached out and patted the back of Aleenaâs hand. âA few days ago, John called me and asked
me to persuade you. He said that he applied to help you pay off the debts of the Colvile family.â
Aleena shook her head. âNo need. I can take the debts on my own. I donât have time to think about it in
order to pay back the money.
âUnfortunately, he had sacrificed his life for the country, but he could not have a single word on the
tombstone. And his name would not be on the list of public martyrs either.â
Darlene felt that no matter what she said, it wouldnât help. After a long while, she said, âThe country will
remember his dedication.
âThe country did not forget him, and the police did not forget him either. So after so many years, they still
cared about how you were doing and wanted to repay the debts for the Colvile family.â
Aleenaâs eyes were red. âI really regret that I agreed to let him be a policeman. It was fine if he was just
an ordinary policeman, butâ¦â
Darlene carried her over and comforted her softly, âAleena, itâs been so many
years. Forget it. Donât think about those things.â
Aleena sobbed. She had gotten through these years, but this was the first time
she cried. âThose drug dealers killed him. At that time, he was only
twentyâfive years old.â
She cried hard. âItâs been two years. I thought back to what happened that night. Everything came back
to me. In the fire, he asked me to hide behind the washing machine on the balcony. Through the gap, I
watched the man kill
him.
âThere was still hot food on the dining table. That night, it was he who
personally cooked. We havenât seen each other for half a year. He secretly came back.â
Her voice was cold. âI remember that he made braciole that night. Because I was on my period, he did
not put in chili. I just took my first bite and the door was knocked open. Those men came in with gunsâ¦â
Darlene hugged her tightly. âAleena, donât say itâ¦â
Aleena trembled. âAll these years, everyone advised me to forget, and the psychiatrist also advised me
to forget.
âBut I really tried my best. I could forget everything, but I just couldnât control myself from thinking about
that night. I didnât dare to eat braciole. I was afraid to even cook. Darlene, I couldnât stop thinking about
him. He died, and I watched him die.â
When Aleena left, Avery just happened to come in.
Darlene patted Aleenaâs back and cried for a while. His eyes were still a little red. The moment Avery
entered to see her like this, he sneered.
At that moment, Darlene suddenly thought that Aleena was right. Why did good men like Braydon die?
There were so many damn men in the world. She
really wanted Avery to die too.
Averyâs expression was especially gloomy. There was still a wound on his face and the corner of his
mouth. He sat down beside Darlene with a cold face.
Darlene glanced at it and mocked, âYouâre injured. It looks bad.â
Avery remained silent. The door to the ward was still open. Darlene heard a
voice from outside. âMr. Walpole, let me take you to the doctor to treat your
wounds.â
Gustave still spoke in a calm tone, âNo need. Mr. Gallard is injured and doesnât see a doctor. Compared
to him, how can I find a doctor with this skin trauma?â
Avery was so angry that he wanted to go out. The nurse outside remembered something and turned
back to say, âMr. Gallard, please pour some warm water for your wife and wipe her face. She had just
had her dressing changed and was suffering from pain. She was sweating.â
Avery was upset, so he walked to the door and went back to the bathroom to
get some water.
He brought some warm water over, but Darlene did not allow him to help her wipe her face. She wrung a
towel and wiped her face.
Avery looked at her with a cold face for a long time before saying, âYou know that I am drunk. What did
you record last night?â
Darlene did not look at him. âJust because you were drunk doesnât mean youâre crazy. You should be
held accountable for your actions last night. You are my husband, but you cannot control your domestic
violence against me when you are drunk. In a way, this is more serious.â
Avery held his anger. âI was indeed a little impulsive last night, but there is a limit to everyoneâs patience.
âYou are my wife, but youâre flirting with other men. You even secretly transferred your grandmother and
brother away. Isnât it to prepare for your own departure?â Avery resisted his anger.
His tone softened. âNo man would be able to tolerate this kind of thing. Besides, who didnât make a
mistake on impulse? Darlene, I donât want to argue with you. I apologize for what happened last night,
but I have never hurt you
before.â
âNever before?â Darlene couldnât help laughing.
âThe divorce lawsuit is going to start soon. It wonât be long before you can see
and hear what you have done with your own eyes and ears.
âAvery, you can lose your memory, and your brain can selectively forget what you had done before, but
the things that had happened in the past and the
evidence will help you remember them clearly.â
She looked at him and smiled softly, âI look forward to seeing your face soon. What will you do when you
witness everything you have done?
