Chapter 209 Death Declaration
Darlene felt she was flung off together with Gustave, but she was in his arms, so her head only slammed
into his chest.
Darlene couldnât tell where she was injured, or maybe she was too panicked and didnât have the strength
to move at all.
When she looked ahead, she heard the sound of the truck starting the engine.
Then the truck turned around and escaped.
Darleneâs face was stained with blood, and she could not tell if it was hers or Gustaveâs. She couldnât see
the license plate of the truck in front of her.
Or it might not be useful even if she saw it clearly. The license plate was most likely
fake.
Darlene didnât have the strength to get out of the car. She reached out and felt a lot of blood on
Gustaveâs head, whose head smashed against the car window.
She moved her hand down a little. When she touched his nose and found he stopped breathing, Darlene
called out to him in panic, âGustave, wake up. Arthur?â
There was no movement from Arthur. Darlene only remembered that she saw that the front of the truck
had broken through the car windshield.
It was hard to imagine the driverâs situation.
The smell of blood in the car became heavier. Darlene could even hear the sound of
blood dripping on the ground.
Darlene gritted her teeth and touched her phone. Her hand was stained with the blood
of Gustaveâs head. Just as she reached the phone screen, it was also covered in blood. It
was impossible to unlock the phone.
Darlene wiped her hands on her clothes, trembling. She could not help but have a terrible guess. She
wondered if Gustave and Arthur were still alive.
Even if they were still alive, how long could they hold on?
Darlene felt more frightened. The phone could not be unlocked no matter how hard she tried. Her hands
kept trembling, and her head was sweaty.
In the silent car, there was suddenly a burst of coughing. Darlene suddenly realized that it was Gustave
coughing. She couldnât help crying.
She said in a broken voice, âHold on a little longer. I⦠Iâll call an ambulance now.â
Gustave reached out and held her tighter. He patted her back as usual. âJust call
Darnell.â
Darlene finally unlocked the phone and had a lump in her throat. She had never been so afraid. âWe
have to call the police and ambulance first.â Gustaveâs voice was very low. âContact Darnell. He has the
location of the car and will bring people over.â Darlene wasnât only injured, but she was also in a panic. It
was likely that she couldnât tell their current position. Darlene called Darnell, who had just arrived at the
company. He smiled and said, âMs. Garcia, Mr. Walpole, please rest assured and go back to have a
good rest. There is nothing urgent at the company. Please ask Mr. Walpole not to worry.â âDarnell, we
had a car accident. Itâs very serious.â After Darlene finished speaking, she found her head very dizzy.
Darnell was silent for a second before he said in a low voice, âI will immediately contact the police and
the ambulance.â He then said to the person next to him, âSarah, check the location of the car that Mr.
Walpole just drove back. Come with me.â Darnell continued to comfort Darlene, âMs. Garcia, please calm
down. Hold on for a while. Weâll be right there.â
Darlene replied with a hum. The phone in her hand slipped down and fell to the ground.
Gustaveâs head was still bleeding, while Arthur in front of her was completely silent.
She said with a trembling voice, âWhat else can I do? I might still be able to get out of the car. Iâll help
you and Arthur get the first-aid kit and treat your injuries.â
Gustave reached out to touch her head. âDonât get out of the car. Does it hurt?â
Darlene shook her head hard, her face pale. âI donât feel pain. Iâm not injured. Itâs your
blood.â
Gustave breathed a sigh of relief, closed his eyes, and continued to sleep. âThatâs good.â
âBut Arthur⦠He seems to beâ¦â Darlene wanted to look ahead, but she could not see it.
Gustave whispered, âDonât think about it. Sleep for a while and wait for someone.â
Darlene leaned against his chest. Her clothes were soaked in blood. Her face and neck
were already sticky.
Gustave patted Darleneâs back and still said in a very low voice, âSleep for a while and
wait for someone.â
Darlene slowly let out a relieved sigh. She became exhausted and gradually closed her
eyes.
However, she did not dare to fall asleep. She placed her finger under Gustaveâs nose and
carefully tried to feel his weak breathing.
When his breathing became weaker, and she could not feel it, Darlene tried hard to pat his face. âWake
up.â
Gustave managed to respond to her after a long time. His voice was very low, but he still wore a
comforting smile. âIâm alive.â
However, no matter how hard Darlene tried to pat the car seat, there was no response from Arthur.
Darnell came very quickly. It was about a half-an-hour drive, but he arrived in less than ten minutes.
The police and the ambulance also quickly arrived.
The area was soon cordoned off. When a policeman got out of the car, he said seriously, âMr. Dorsey,
this is close to the Royal Villa Area. Itâs relatively remote, and thereâs no surveillance nearby.â
Tom did not say anything. He carefully checked the scene to see if there were any traces left.
The doctors in the ambulance quickly got out. Darnell first opened the back door and had the
unconscious Gustave carried into the ambulance.
When Darlene was carried to another ambulance, she heard a doctor say in a sad tone, âThe driver was
dead. There is no way to save him.â
Darlene suddenly felt a sharp pain in her stomach when she was carried to bed. Before she fell into a
coma, Darlene saw Gustave get in the ambulance.
Before Gustave was carried up, he woke up from the coma and told Darnell with the last of his strength,
âTake good care of Darlene. Donât let anyone touch her.â
Given C*ssiusâ suspicious personality, he would definitely not let Darlene off.
The ambulance brought them to the hospital, and soon there was a chaotic scene.
The most experienced doctors immediately rushed to the emergency room where
Gustave was.
When Avery came out of the ward, he saw Giovanni rushing over.
He asked, âMr. Dawson, why are you in such a hurry? What happened?â
Giovanni paused, looked at him, and hurriedly replied, âMr. Gustave just had a car accident, and the
situation is very serious. The driver was declared to be dead on the spot.â
