Cyrus was shocked. As he asked the doctor to help him take Avery to the bed in the ward, Cyrus asked
the nurse in a low voice, âHow much blood did you draw in one go?â
The intern nurse sensed something wrong and rushed over in a panic.
âI drew⦠I drew 1.05 pints. Thereâs no Rh-negative blood in the hospital. This gentleman said that he
was healthy, and the emergency room needed blood, so I drew
more.â
Generally speaking, with Averyâs condition, he would be clearly unwell when he was
drawn about 0.7 pints of blood.
But Avery insisted that he did not feel any discomfort.
The director on duty, David Cohen, scolded her in a low voice, âPack up your stuff and quit. You are a
nurse. Donât you know a bit of common sense?
âA normal person can only be drawn 0.35 pints to 0.7 pints of blood at most. Do you think it is as easy as
carrying water? Why donât you roll up your sleeves and donate 1.05 pints?â
The nurse was so scared and did not dare to speak. She lowered her head and trembled,
afraid that Avery couldnât wake up once he fell unconscious.
David wanted to continue to scold the nurse when Avery said, âEnough. I signed up and asked her to do
it. Mr. Cohen, donât cause trouble for no reason. If you fire her, I will fire
you.â
When David saw that Avery had woken up, he heaved a sigh of relief. If anything were to happen to
Avery, the Gallard family and Andrew wouldnât let go of David.
He immediately walked to the bed with a flattering smile. âMr. Gallard, youâre awake. You must be joking.
I was just scaring the nurse. I wonât fire her.â
Avery didnât say much to him. He directly lifted the quilt and got up from the bed.
Cyrus was anxious and tried to stop him. âMr. Gallard, youâd better rest longer. Thereâs someone in the
emergency room. Youâve been drawn too much blood, so you might have greatly hurt.â
Avery directly walked out of the ward. âHow could I get hurt just because of that? Iâll

wait there. When she is out and doesnât see me, she wonât be used to it.â
Cyrus followed him out and thought, if Ms. Garcia doesnât see you and thus isnât used to it, thatâs
because she might be too happy.
Avery had not eaten for the whole day. This morning, because of the matter with Andrew and Vivian,
Avery quarreled with Darlene. He locked Darlene in the bedroom. He was also angry and did not have
any appetite.
Otherwise, he might not have really fainted after he was drawn blood.
Avery sat outside the emergency room and waited for Darlene. When he saw the light still lit up outside
the emergency room, Avery couldnât help clenching his fists.
Darlene had vomited so much blood and was lying in the emergency room alone. Avery wondered if she
felt cold.
Avery did not feel good. He could not tell how many times he had seen Darlene vomit blood.
He hated seeing blood on her body. That scarlet color would make him think of death for no reason.
The several test results clearly showed him that Darlene just had an ordinary heart disease and that she
would not die.
But Avery was not very sure about many things. Avery was only very certain that he
could not accept it if Darlene died.
Probably because it was too quiet outside the emergency room, Avery started to be
paranoid when he was waiting.
Cyrus stood beside him. Avery said, âWould she really vomit so much blood just because of heart
disease?â
Cyrus replied, âMr. Gallard, Iâm not very sure about it, but the heart is the most
important organ. Heart attack is more serious than any other disease. If one doesnât
take medicine to treat it in time, the patient might vomit blood.â
Avery thought about it and could not remember whether Darlene had vomited blood in the past.
After a while, Avery seemed to comfort himself and said, âShe might have vomited

blood. She just has heart disease. Sheâll be fine if she takes the medicine in time.â
Avery sat outside for a long time. The light outside the emergency room didnât go out until late at night.
Avery was a little nervous, his palms were sweaty. When he saw that the light was off, he immediately
got up and waited for the doctor to push Darlene out.
However, he felt a little guilty seeing her. So, Avery tilted his head and looked at the wall. He just glanced
at the door of the emergency room out of the corner of his eye.
The heavy door opened, and the bed was pushed out.
Avery walked over and did not dare to look at Darlene on the bed. He reached out and
pushed the bed to the other side of the corridor. He said awkwardly, âYouâre awake.â
The doctor who came out of the emergency room looked at Avery strangely. âMr. Gallard, Mrs. Gallard
hasnât woken up yet.â
Avery looked over. He saw Darlene close her eyes and seem to be sleeping soundly.
He felt embarrassed for a moment and then asked the doctor with displeasure, âWhy did you push her
out since she wasnât awake?â
The doctor explained, âMrs. Gallard has woken up once in the emergency room and is
now out of danger.
âBecause of the anesthetic and that sheâs too weak and tired, she may wake up tonight,
or tomorrow, or even later.â
Avery looked over. Under the strong light in the corridor, Darleneâs face was so pale.
He leaned closer to her and blocked her from the strong light. Avery asked, âIf she
doesnât wake up, can she just sleep like this?â
The doctor answered, âYou can stay with Mrs. Gallard in the intensive care unit tonight. Just observe her
condition and touch her more. Also, talk to her more. If she doesnât
wake up before noon tomorrow, weâll think of another way.â
Avery, who had just been relieved, was nervous again. He replied unhappily, âGot it.â
The doctor added, âMrs. Gallardâs body temperature is a little low. Please be careful. Please warm her
up. Although the patient is unconscious, she will still be uncomfortable

because of the coldness.â
When pushing the bed, Avery held Darleneâs hand. He responded with a âyesâ and
pushed Darlene into the ICU.
Cyrus followed to the door and carefully asked, âMr. Gallard, how about I call a servant
to take care of Mrs. Gallard? Youâd better rest since you are tired.â
Avery pushed the bed in and closed the door. âNo need. Iâll take care of her. Donât let
anyone in.â
He thought of something and added, âFind a way to check if anyone else entered Southwood Villa during
the day.â
âOkay.â Cyrus nodded.
The door was closed, and Avery turned on the lights in the room. It was very quiet at
that moment.
He carried Darlene and planned to put her on the hospital bed.
When he held her in his arms, Avery stood for a while longer and weighed her weight, feeling a little
strange. âWhy are you so thin?â
