Chapter 72 You Must Tell Me
It was already after midnight, and the entire corridor was deadly silent.
Darlene clenched her fists with increasing force. The nails dug into her palms. When she saw the red
light outside the emergency room go out, she immediately got up from the
chair.
The emergency room door opened, and a doctor came out. He took off his mask and said, âThe patient
is out of danger. Donât worry, she will be out of the emergency room soon and transferred into a ward.
âBut the patient is old. Someone must keep an eye on her all the time and her condition should be under
observation.â
Darlene heaved a sigh of relief. Her tense body had suddenly relaxed and she was so
tired that she almost fell.
Avery quickly reached out to help her, but his hands were dodged by her.
Darlene reached out to support herself by the wall beside her and repeatedly thanked the doctor, âThank
you so much, doctor.â
Reina was quickly pushed out of the emergency room. Darlene rushed over and grabbed the skinny
hand on the bed. Darleneâs eyes were very dry.
âGrandma, do you feel better?â
Reinaâs hearing and sight were not very good. Rein stared at Darlene for a while before revealing a
smile. âAurora, youâre here.â
Darleneâs hands were trembling. She nodded and pushed the bed forward. âYes, Iâm here. Grandma,
donât worry. The doctor said that youâre OK.â
After settling down in the ward, the doctor checked again and said that there was no problem for the time
being. He told Darlene to be careful and observe the patientâs
condition. Then, he went out.
Reina lay on the bed. Darlene leaned against the bed and squatted. Darlene covered Reinaâs hands,
trying to warm them.
âGrandma, are you hungry? Are you thirsty? Do you want a blanket? You just came out of the emergency
room. Are you cold?â
Avery stood at the back and brought a chair over. âSit down. Itâs uncomfortable to squat
like this.â
Darlene just ignored him. She leaned over and pressed her face against the back of Reinaâs hand.
Darleneâs nose felt sore.
They had a close relationship although Reina was not Darleneâs real grandmother. But they hadnât seen
each other for more than a year.
More than a year ago, she had a good relationship with Avery. Because Reinaâs condition was unstable,
Avery sent Reina abroad for treatment.
Darlene had planned to get Reina back some time ago, but Vivian had just returned to the country, and
Teresa had passed away.
After that, things were a mess. Even seeing her grandmother via video chat was a wish that couldnât be
easily achieved.
Reina smiled and patted Darleneâs head. Her voice was low. âYouâre not a child anymore. Why are you
still so childish? Avery is right. Get up and sit in the chair.â
Darlene still squatted and was unwilling to get up. âIâm fine. I havenât seen you for a long time. I want to
see you more.â
Reina did not try to persuade her anymore. Reina looked behind Darlene and said, âWhy isnât Nigel
here? Did he go to school?â
Darleneâs hand froze for a moment before she replied calmly, âHe lives at school. Heâs now in junior high
school and is busy with his homework. He rarely has time to come. back. Heâll only come back once a
month.â
Reina looked a little disappointed. âOh, OK. Homework is important. Iâm happy that
both of you are doing well.â
Darleneâs face was against the bed. For some reason, tears began to stream down her
face. She pressed her face against the quilt and dared not even raise her head.
Reina was getting old. If Darlene had told her the things that had happened lately, Reina couldnât take
any of them.
So Darlene repeated the same sentence. âEverything is fine. Nigel and I are fine. Grandma, donât worry. I
will be here with you and take good care of you.â
Reina smiled and nodded. âGood. Iâm old and it doesnât matter if I can live longer. Avery, thank you for
what youâve done. In the past two years, you have found many good doctors and managed to keep me
alive.â
As she spoke, she looked at Avery, who was behind Darlene. âAurora, you have had a hard time since
you were a child. Your adoptive parents passed away early and you have to support Nigel. Fortunately,
you have Avery.
âYou two have been married for more than two years in the blink of an eye. Avery has always been good
to you, right?â
Although they did not have a good relationship in the past, Darlene took care of him. carefully for two
years. Even a heartless man shouldâve softened.
Now that they were married, they must be truly in love and they would be kind to each other. After all,
marriage was a big thing.
Avery felt very guilty. She turned around and walked to the table. âI will pour a glass of water for you.â
Reinaâs hands were warm. Darlene tucked her in. âGrandma, donât worry about this. Iâve said that Iâm
fine. Donât worry. Itâs already late in the night. Drink some water and have
a good rest. We can talk about it tomorrow.â
Reina smiled and did not ask any more questions. âOK.â
Avery brought over a glass of water and handed it to Darlene from behind. âThereâs a straw in the
drawer. You can feed your grandma with it.â
Darlene did not notice that he had handed over the water. Looking at the glass that had
suddenly reached out to her, she subconsciously got up to avoid it.
The memories that he had poured hot water on her back then, for some reason, suddenly became clear
at that moment. She took a step back and clenched her fists.
Avery probably realized the reason for her reaction. He placed the glass of water on the bedside table
and did not dare to look at her. âI will go out first. You guys can talk.â
Reina looked at Darlene. âWhy are you so shocked when he gives you a glass of water?â
Avery went out. Darlene took a deep breath and sat down by the bed. âItâs nothing, Grandma. I was
thinking about something just now. Drink some water and I will heat
some soup for you.â
Reina drank a glass of water. Although she was old and her eyes were not good, she still
had intuition.
âAurora, is Avery good to you?â
Darlene continued to say, âEverything is good. Grandma, lie down first. Iâll heat the soup for you.â
The soup on the bedside table was just sent by the nurse. It was a little cold.
Reina sighed. âIf something is wrong, you must tell me.â
Darlene got up and took the soup. âYouâre getting old and youâre overthinking. Iâll go heat the soup first.â
When she brought the soup out, Avery stood outside the corridor.
Seeing Darlene walk toward the direction of the microwave, he silently followed her.
When the soup was ready, Darlene opened the microwave and was about to take it out. At this time,
Avery reached out to help. âLet me do it. Itâs hot.â
She took out the soup before he did and said with a cold voice, âNo need. You can leave first. I will stay
here all night. If you are worried, you can ask the bodyguards to guard
outside the ward.â
Avery did not say a word. Darlene turned to look at him. âThis is the ninth floor. They are security
windows. Donât worry, I canât jump down with my grandmother.â
Avery did not know what to say. âDarlene, stay with me. No matter what happened in the past, I will be
good to you and your grandma.â
She did not say anything more and left with the soup. âYou can go.â
After Darlene entered the ward, Avery sat in the corridor outside, feeling bad.
He sat until the sky turned bright and patients were walking around the corridor. He casually glanced at
the corridor and saw Gustave walking over from the end of the corridor.
