Hello, my name is Courtney and I would love to welcome all potential readers to my new story currently titled, The Last Black Unicorn. I understand as an African American how important representation can be to a lot of different racial backgrounds and ethnicities. Since, I'm also incorporating my background into this story I'll tend to use some slurs, but it will only be used for certain characters' dialogue.
We all have our differences whether it's our culture, race, size, personality types, but I'm writing this story to hopefully bridge the gap between us. I'm hoping to highlight some well rounded characters with a knack for sarcasm, cheeky jokes, awkward situations and it's all featuring fierce young women. Some of my characters will be your favorite people to hate, but enough of my rambling. Now without further ado, the summary of The Last Black Unicorn featuring a character board and a glimpse into Ebony's world.
THE SUMMARY
When Ebony finally decides to seize every moment, she realizes it may be too late after her crush, Brandon Lockwood's perception of her changes forever.
*******
Seventeen-year-old Ebony Philips spends most of her time laying on her bed, fantasizing about the day she turns into an adult. Then, she can finally dance in the rain, scream from the rooftop, and confess her undying love to Brandon Lockwood. The boy that always occupies Ebony's mind in her bedroom's four space grey walls, the last refuge she has left. The only place Ebony can laugh out loud and dream of changing the world. Then in an instant, Ebony's aspirations burn to the ground, along with her family's home.
Now the Philips have to bunk with an old family friend, Robert Lockwood, better known as the father of Ebony's crush. Desperate for an escape, Ebony realizes she has to face her fears with the obnoxious boy right across the hall, and directly in front of her teacher's smart board. Her fairytale gets even more complicated after Brandon's perception of her changes forever.
How can a golden boy descend into mad love when our fire-spitting heroine keeps her heart locked away? How can Ebony conquer high school when her leading man discovers her greatest weakness and most kept secret? Can a crooked soldier love a halfwit?
THE SNEAK PEAK
I know it's not real, but I can't help smiling as Brandon's muscular arms wrap tightly around my tiny waist. Then in seconds, he pulls me deeper inside his chest, and the aroma of sandalwood fills my nostrils with a splash of cinnamon surrounding each note of his cologne. I breathe in his scent as warm amber notes, and a hint of nutmeg expel from the nozzle of Jesse's air freshener. I grip the bottle in my hand, spraying an endless trail of Brandon Lockwood into my overactive imagination.
I sigh cheerfully, thinking of all the places on my body his soft lips could kiss passionately. A smirk plays on Brandon's face as he closes the small gap between us, trapping me underneath his massive biceps. Then he looks deep into my eyes and asks, "Where do you think you're going?" with all the seduction of a Greek god. I bite back a smile as he slowly presses his lips against mine.
"Ebony, you have exactly five minutes to step outside your spaceship before I leave your ass on Mars," Lexie yells outside my door, talking over a hundred chimes of some stupid, catchy, bubblegum pop ringtone.
"Turn that shit off!" I screech.
"I bet you'd like it if Katy screamed into the track about slitting your throat," Lexie shrieks, "you emo freak."
"I'd like it if your music actually had a purpose instead of appealing to spoiled skanks!" I said, throwing two finger signs behind my closed door.
Lexie stomps downstairs to her mom, her voice echoing through the house as she expresses her disdain about being forced to live with the angel of death. Another one of Lexie's despicable nicknames she'd rather call me besides my government name. Don't get me wrong; I always knew she had a flare for being a drama queen because heaven knows, if it doesn't revolve around Alexis Kingsley, then it doesn't fucking exist. At least, that's what Lexie and her plastic cohorts have all brainwashed themselves into believing.
I legit think the cause of their withering brain cells stems from the hundred layers of makeup caked on their faces, all to imitate the perfect Glo. Or better known as a face full of foundation, concealer, highlighter, and a little pixie dust. Translation: thanks to the holy grail of filters, Lexie, Naija, Chloe, Roxane, and Sienna can transform themselves into warped alien goddesses every morning before the clock strikes seven o'clock. A splendid fairytale, now only if our heroines weren't over-processed whores.
I roll my eyes at the thought of a world where Lexie and her friends were decent people that didn't prey on the souls of the vast population of Ravenwood High School. Otherwise, known as a no man's land, a place where the most deprived minds live like gods. Instead of the Plastics, Lexie, Naija, Chloe, Roxane, and Sienna are all revered as The Atomic Five. A name bestowed upon five girls by our entire horny student body because Chloe, unlike her companions, has a fiercer appetite for girls. Yes, their horniness has no discrimination, which further adds to the conundrum of the Atomic Five's combined fan bases. Because I refuse to listen to another girl undress Chloe in extremely vivid detail.
Honestly, the girls have joined the boys in lust.
THE ATOMIC FIVE
I present the five degrees of beautiful women chosen to be the Atomic Five starring Nyane Lebajoa as Naija "Nia" Cassidy, Zendaya Coleman as Alexis "Lexie" or "Lex" Kingsley, Cara Delevingne as Chloe "Clo" Carter, Shakira as Sienna "Sissy" Johnson, and Madelaine Petsch as Roxanne "Roxie" or "Rox" Banks.
