Chapter 31
âIâve never given much thought to the concept of true love,â Gordon remarked, his brows knitting in confusion at my words.
It wasnât surprising.
Given that he hadnât yet met Sabrina, the thought of true love hadnât crossed his mind.
On the other hand, I had witnessed in a previous life how deeply he loved Sabrina, to the point of madness and recklessness.
âYouâll understand once you meet her. It makes sense you havenât thought about it yet,â I replied calmly, leaning back against the bed.
âMust you speak to me in such a manner?â Gordon frowned again, clearly displeased. âI admit I was wrong earlier tonight. From now on, Iâll be more considerate of your feelings.
Hearing such understanding words from Gordon for the first time, I must admit that I was quite surprised.
I turned to look at him, raising an eyebrow.
I said sarcastically, âConsiderate of my feelings? Then how about you prove it? Call Nora right now in front of me and tell her to stay away. Howâs that?â
As expected, Gordonâs calm demeanor darkened instantly upon hearing my words.
âDonât overstep, Taylor.â
He talked about being considerate. Yet, never mind distancing himself from his destined true love, whom he was about to meet soon, he wasnât even willing to give up someone as th Nora.

Seeing his reaction, I felt even more suffocated inside. So, I buried my head in the blankets, no longer
wanting to speak another word to him.
âHolmes Group will soon hold its midâyear gala, which is very important for us. Prepare yourself these
next few days. Youâll be attending with me.â
Probably seeing that I had no intention of engaging with him, Gordon spoke again after a brief silence,
informing me about the midâyear gala.
He had never before thought to bring me along in any major event.
During our twoâyear marriage, I was practically invisible in his life. Even when his parents occasionally
recommended my involvement, he had consistently ignored it.
Suddenly, he decided we should attend the gala together. It was a decision that genuinely surprised me.
The endâofâyear galaâ¦
Wasnât that the event marking the beginning of his story with Sabrina? I had been secretly preparing for this gala for quite some time.
Chaker
âAlright, Iâll be prepared.â
I decided not to oppose him but instead calmly responded as I set aside the blanket.
Given Gordonâs desire for me to join him at the gala, I resolved to fully embrace my role as Mrs. Holmes and ensure I was dressed to perfection for the event.
I was curious how I would outshine Sabrina and how she intended to meet Gordon following this twist.
This prospect excited me, and a smile naturally appeared on my face.
Misreading my smile as joy at his invitation, Gordon unexpectedly reached out, gently patting my head
like one would a child.
âActually, if you were a little more agreeable, Iâd consider bringing you to more public events in the future.â
What a delusional fellow. I felt truly âthankfulâ for that.
I replied, âThat sounds good. Isnât that the essence of marriage? It would be even better without those annoying rumors constantly bothering me.â
My words were laced with a veiled provocation meant to provoke him.
âThe real test is whether you can capture my heart,â he replied, surprisingly without annoyance.
Instead, he bent down to tuck the blanket around me, as though he was concerned I might get cold.
Accustomed to his usual detachment, this unexpected act of kindness left me momentarily speechless.
âThe ravioli is getting cold, have it while itâs still warm. Once youâre done with your IV, Iâll take you back
home.â
He lifted the takeout boxâs lid again, and the ravioliâs inviting scent wafted through the air.
After a.crazy night and barely any dinner, my stomach had other plans for the quiet room. It growled. loudly, breaking the silence.
