Chapter 49
I felt like I was holding my breath. My eyes darted between Gordon and Sabrina.
I felt like a curious but pathetic spectator, silently waiting for the drama to unfold.
My emotions were in a mess. I couldnât find the words to describe exactly how I felt.
At the sound of Sabrinaâs voice, Gordon hesitantly turned around. He scanned the crowd until his gaze settled on her slender figure.
She seemed to be the one destined for him. When his eyes landed on her, his gaze appeared as though he had fallen in love at first sight.
They stared at each other from afar, and their eyes were deeply drawn to one another.
Sabrinaâs gaze shimmered with a youthful boldness and innocence. It was akin to someone exploring the world for the first time and unafraid of the unknown.
While Gordonâs eyes showed a hint of confusion, there was also a subtle glimmer of something else that was hard to pinpoint.
âHmm?â he responded softly.
His voice was as deep and melodious as a cello, holding more meaning than mere words could convey.
âIf you canât find a replacement, Iâm willing to take the stage. Iâve had piano lessons, and I can⦠play.â
Sabrina was quite bold. Despite being a newly graduated intern, she didnât hesitate to step forward in
front of everyone and volunteer.
However, her selfârecommendation caught everyone off guard. Her immediate supervisor, Hannah, quickly grabbed her wrist.
âSabrina, donât be rash. Carly is one of the top pianists in the country. How can you compete with her?â
she cautioned.
But Sabrina remained confident.
Her eyes never left Gordonâs as she declared, âI may not be as good as Carly, but I have a Grade 10 piano
certificate. Given the urgency of the situation, Iâm willing to give it a shot.â
I noticed Gordon had been watching her closely. When Sabrina spoke those words, I could see a glint of
approval in his eyes.
His lips parted slightly as if he were about to say something. Given past events, he would have agreed to Sabrinaâs request, offering her a remarkable opportunity to shine.
But this time, I had been preparing in secret.
As he was about to speak, I interrupted, âIâll take care of the piano performance later. Iâve had some experience playing the piano before, and Carly was my mentor for a while. Since she canât make it, Iâll step
in for her.â
As soon as I said this, all the backstage staff turned their attention to me.
Gordonâs gaze shifted from Sabrina to me..
Clearly, he didnât know I could play the plano, so his eyes were filled with doubt.
âAre you sure?â he asked.
I nodded.
âYeah, I should be fine.â
âDonât worry, Tay will be okay. She was a plano prodigy when she was young and even won international awards. With her on stage, everything will be fine!â Selena exclaimed loudly as she appeared at the backstage entrance.
She was indeed my best friend.
Her testimony immediately dispelled Gordonâs doubts.
With the performance time approaching, he firmly grasped my hand, saying in a deep voice, âOkay. Iâll be
counting on you.â
I smiled faintly.
âDonât worry. Let the host set the stage first.â
Once the decision was made, everyone promptly returned to
work, busying themselves with their tasks.
