âPlanning to make a run for it?â Zoeâs voice dripped with cold disdain as she caught the nurse.
Surveying the nurse carefully, I noticed she wasnât a high-ranking Barton operative; she appeared more like someone sent on a spying mission.
Without mincing words, I questioned her, âTell me, were you listening in on our conversation to report back to the Barton family?â
âForgive me, I was wrong.
Please spare me!â The nurseâs complexion drained of color as fear gripped her.
âI was only following orders.
Please donât hold it against me!â
Observing the sheer terror in the nurseâs eyes, it struck me that her hasty retreat was likely due to cowardice rather than the skills of a seasoned spy.
Zoeâs brows furrowed.
She had little patience for outsiders and, realizing that this nurse wouldnât yield useful information, didnât linger.
She administered a swift, yet precise blow to the nurseâs neck, rendering her unconscious.
Turning to Bella, Zoe issued a stern warning, her voice laced with gravity.
âBella, the Barton family has been keeping an eye on your every move.
Did you see this nurse? Itâs increasingly perilous to leave your child in the Barton familyâs hospital.
If you delay and make the wrong decision, your family will be labeled as collaborators with the Bartons, seen as traitors to the Thorn Edge Pack.

Bella hesitated.
I pointed out, âBella, the Barton family knows that Fiona is your weakness.
Since they have threatened you this time, you can be sure there will be a second time.
After all, this medicine wonât be able to cure your child completely.
They instructed your husband to guide the second group of Roz Townâs residents to the forest to murder them this time.
What will happen next time? Iâm sure they will make even more sinister demands.
â
Bella frowned.
After a long moment, she finally reached a decision.
âWell, I promise you that I will do my best to convince my husband to testify against the Barton family.
But I will only do this on the condition that you will take responsibility for Fionaâs safety.
â
âNo problem,â Zoe said confidently, showing no trace of hesitation.
âI promise you that she wonât get hurt.
â
I glanced at the nurse lying on the floor and then shifted my attention to the surveillance camera in the corridor.
âThis is a very dangerous place.
Letâs leave first.
â
Hearing my warning, Bella instantly walked back into the room and brought the child out.
Fiona didnât know what was happening.
She rubbed her eyes and asked in a perplexed voice, âMom, where are we going? Donât I need to stay in the hospital?â
Zoe was well-versed in handling children.
With a smile, she said, âFiona, why donât we go home to look for your father and then go to an interesting place?â
âAwesome!â Fiona immediately agreed in delighted anticipation.
The four of us were about to take the elevator downstairs, but at that moment, the elevator doors slid open and a group of well-trained guards stepped out.
They blocked our way with forbidding expressions.
Zoe and I exchanged glances, realizing that these guards were not friendly.
We shielded Bella and Fiona with our bodies and cautiously retreated to a staircase that would lead us out of the hospital.
In this way, once the guards made a move to attack us, we could quickly escape via the staircase with Bella and Fiona.
