âButâ¦â
Caleb started to object, but I cut him off decisively.
âLove, you know the rift was caused by the last supreme witch, Gale.
In the world, only witches can fix it, not the werewolves.
As the new supreme witch, if I ignore this, the world might face despair.
I must accept this responsibility, no matter what!â
My voice was strong and resonant, filling the spacious reception room.
My resolve seemed to influence Caleb.
He managed a weak smile and yielded, âAlright, if youâre set on this, Iâll be by your side.
â
I expressed my gratitude and beamed, âDarling, thank you for understanding!â
But before my smile could fade, Caleb shifted the conversation.
He looked at me intently and said gravely, âDonât thank me yet.
Thereâs something more important you need to do.
â
âWhat? What is it?â
I was puzzled.
As I stood there bewildered, I suddenly felt light as a feather and then everything spun around.
I hadnât seen it coming.
Caleb had picked me up!
His sudden action took me by surprise.
I exclaimed, âCaleb, what are you doing?â
Instinctively, to prevent falling, I wrapped my arms around his neck.
âHaha.
â
Right next to my ear, I heard Calebâs joyful and somewhat smug laughter.
It sounded like he had been holding it in for a while, bursting with unspoken happiness.
I grew even more puzzled.
âWhat are you planning, Caleb?â I asked, bewildered.
I had only temporarily lost my strength.
A little rest was all I needed to recover.
It wasnât that I was completely unable to walk.
His unexpected embrace left me bewildered.
Driven by curiosity, I asked, âAbout the important matter you mentioned earlier⦠What is it?â
Caleb didnât answer right away.
He smiled slightly and started walking briskly.
âDonât worry,â Caleb said earnestly.
âIâm just taking you to rest.
Youâve been careless.
Youâre pregnant and have been pushing yourself too hard.
You donât know how to take care of yourself.
Itâs time for you to rest.
We can discuss everything else later.
â
I was momentarily taken aback.
