My tone turned frosty.
âYou may not have had another woman before, but now you do.
Iâll take care of the children; it wonât disrupt your affair with your new love.
â
âThatâs not what Iâm saying!â Caleb scrambled to explain.
âIâm just asking you to think about the kids.
With your memory loss, youâre not seeing clearly.
Rushing into decisions now might lead to regret once you remember everything.
â
Debraâs POV:
âThis is my own business.
You donât need to worry about it.
â
With that, I shrugged off Calebâs hold and continued walking away.
But I had underestimated Calebâs resolve.
Persistent as ever, he hurried after me, catching up within a few strides and seizing my hand again.
âDebra, please donât go,â he implored, looking at me with a desperate sadness.
âJust listen to me one more time, okay? Itâs not what you think.
â
It was the same old story.
I realized that this could be just the beginning.
If I naively chose to believe him again, such problems would probably keep recurring.
My heart swelled with annoyance, my thoughts scattered; I didnât want to say anything, so I just turned away, trying to break free.
âDebra!â Seeing me pull away, Caleb grew even more distressed.
His eyes reddened, a clear unwillingness in his look, and his tone became firm.
âYou have to stay today.
We need to sort this out.
â
His grip on my hand tightened, causing me discomfort.
âNo, Iâve heard enough!â
I struggled again to break free from his grip, but it was no use.
The pain was unbearable.
It was all his fault, his betrayal.
Why was I the one suffering?
Just when I was feeling utterly wronged and on the verge of tears, a tall figure stepped in front of me, releasing me from Calebâs grip and ushering me to safety.
Their shadows merged as the Light shifted.
The man in front of me was Andrew.
I stopped for a moment.
âMr.
Wright.
â Andrew kept his cool, maintaining his gentlemanly demeanor as he faced Caleb without a hint of fear, his smile unwavering.
âPlease respect Debraâs decision.
Sheâs not an object.
Sheâs a person with her own will and rights.
â
Caleb shot him a fierce look, his voice sharp.
âStay out of this! This is between Debra and me.
Iâve never treated her like an object, so back off!â
With that, he tried to reach for me again.
