âWhat?â I was stunned when Nora shared the news with me.
Disbelief washed over me.
âShirley dared to barge into Andrewâs place? Is she out of her mind?â
Despite Shirleyâs usual bossy attitude, she always seemed to respect Andrew and care about her image in front of him.
Why would she suddenly storm into Andrewâs place?
Did something happen?
Feeling a weight in my chest, I handed Abby to a nearby maid and approached Nora, eager for more information.
âWhatâs going on? Why didnât anyone stop Shirley with all the guards at the manor?â
Nora looked helpless as she replied, âThere are plenty of guards, but whatâs the use?â
With a shrug, she continued, âShirley, being the clan leaderâs daughter, just barged in with her group, threatening and even hitting people.
The guards didnât dare to stop her.
Now, only the butler and a few others are trying to restrain her.
But I doubt they can hold her back for long.
â
Worry furrowed my brow.
Was Shirley causing such a scene just to see me?
Not wanting others to suffer because of me, I made up my mind.
âIf sheâs so desperate to see me, then Iâll go and see what she wants.
â
âThatâs not a good idea!â Nora reached out to stop me.
âDebra, you canât go.
Mr.
Pierce isnât at the manor right now.
If you go alone and Shirley starts bullying you, what then? With so many people with her, she wonât let you off easily.
â
I let go of her hand, revealing Shirleyâs strategy to Nora.
âNora, youâre too trusting.
Shirley is here because Andrew isnât around.
She wouldnât be this bold otherwise.

Nora, still concerned, suggested, âIf sheâs afraid of Mr.
Pierce, canât we just wait for him to come back? Debra, please, donât go.
It will only cause trouble!â
It was clear that Nora didnât really know Shirley, as she hadnât spent much time with her.
I shook my head.
âIf I donât face her now, she wonât stop.
Sheâll keep coming after me, and it will only get worse.
â
âButâ¦â
Nora had seen Shirleyâs fierceness and was genuinely worried about me, trying her best to stop me.
I explained firmly, âNora, thereâs something you donât know.
Shirley and her people once tricked me into going to the border between witches and vampires, planning to kill me.
â
Nora was shocked.
I continued, âThink about it, if I donât face her now, sheâll do something drastic to see me.
Weâre in the manor right now, with plenty of guards and maids around.
Maybe that will make her hold back a little.
â
In a low voice, I insisted, âWe canât miss this opportunity.
â
Before Nora could respond, I quickly moved away, instructing her, âNora, Iâll go meet her.
You stay here and donât go anywhere.
â
As I opened the door to go downstairs, I heard Shirleyâs arrogant voice from the entrance.
âWhy doesnât Debra come meet me? Is she scared?â
I narrowed my eyes, a slight smile playing on my lips.
