I scoffed, âOf course, I do.
â
Refusing to let her take on the role of a wise elder lecturing a rebellious kid, I continued defiantly, âAre you going to tell me that Shirley is the daughter of the clan leader and is next in line to lead the witches? In my opinion, if she keeps acting out, abusing her status to cause trouble like this, then the witches are headed straight for disaster.

Debraâs POV:
The woman fixed me with a narrowed gaze that seemed to pierce through the air.
After a prolonged stare-down, she emitted a cold snort and turned on her heel, exiting the manor without so much as a word.
Her departure left me somewhat dumbfounded.
She was leaving just like that?
Didnât she want to argue with me?
I turned to Shirley, whose face mirrored my own astonishment.
âMs.
Millerâ¦â
Shirley began tentatively, but the woman interrupted her, commanding her entourage, âGet Shirley out of here.
She is not allowed to stay.
â
I was even more surprised when I heard that.
Was she actually siding with me, finding Shirleyâs stance unreasonable?
I bit back any comment, opting to observe the unfolding scene.

âNo!â Shirley couldnât contain herself upon hearing the womanâs decision.
âI refuse to leave.
I need to teach Debra a lesson today!â
I understood what Shirley was thinking.
She viewed it as a prime opportunity to confront me, and if she let it slip by, who knew when another chance would present itself? With Andrew
likely to be more cautious and her mother keeping a watchful eye, this might be her best shot.
However, Shirleyâs protest fell on deaf ears.
The woman remained adamant, determined to haul her away.
Shirleyâs panic escalated as she yelled, âLet go of me! Iâm not leaving! I need to teach Debra a lesson and handle her properly!â
Her outburst only deepened the scowl on the womanâs face.
âShirley!â
The womanâs voice dipped lower, tinged with annoyance.
Overcome by fear, Shirley fell silent, no longer putting up a fight, and obediently trailed behind the woman.
As they left, the tension lifted from the butler and the maids, who visibly sighed with relief.
âDebra, you are quite something,â the butler said, giving me a thumbs up.
âYou are truly worthy of being Mr.
Pierceâs future wife.
Not only did you have the guts to slap Shirley, but you also stood up to Addy.
Nobody in the witchesâ clan has ever dared to do that.
â
Watching them depart, I couldnât help but ask, âWho exactly is that woman? Why is Shirley so terrified of her?â
