What Carlos further said confirmed how this person must be someone we knew or at least someone who knew us very well to know about Keenanâs private messages that he only shared with his assistant.
If I were to narrow it down to powerful people who could possess such information and who also wasnât fond of me, Iâd come up with a pretty short list.
And the person topping that was Shirley.
ALL of Carlosâ information pointed to her.
âWhoever it was, they were clever.
But not clever enough to cover their IP address, because we traced it back to the witch clan leaderâs manor,â Carlos said, sounding proud of his work.
âWas this unknown person Shirley?â I predicted with a cold gaze.
âWhen did she become so clever?â
The plans were intricately thought of.
A reckless simpleton Like Shirley couldnât have come up to such ideas and methods alone.
Either she had some help, or it wasnât her.
âYouâre right; Shirley isnât clever at all,â Caleb agreed with me with a sneer.
âAnd that manor does not only have Shirley.
Someone else lives there, too.
â
âAre you saying it was Veronica?â I gasped, shocked at the possibility.
What could be her Veronicaâs motive to set up a nobody Like me amidst her busy schedule?
I never thought of the conflict between Shirley and me as something more serious than two girlsâ catfight over a boy.
That was why I never expected for the leader of the witch clan to be involved and for two people to die because of it.
The more thought I put into it, the more things became clearer to me, and the grimmer my expression grew.
Just how much of this did I not notice?
Caleb must have sensed my uneasiness because he wrapped his arms around my shoulders as if to shield me from the coldness of the truth.
âIâm sure itâs more complicated than that.
I just figured that Debbie was trying to get Andrew in it as well.
â
As if on cue, Calebâs words made Debbieâs statement resurface in my head.
I remembered how emotional she was when she said that Andrew wasnât deserving of being the witch clanâs deputy leader.
This was a heavy statement considering that Andrew was favored by the clan.
Veronica mustâve felt threatened by Andrewâs presence in the clan, so she planned to suppress his influence with this.
Hence, it would make sense if Veronica was behind everything!
Debraâs POV:
âAndrew had done a lot for the witch clan.
Why would Veronica do this to him?â I asked in disbelief and felt sorry for Andrew.
âIs it because Andrew did not accept Shirleyâs love? Does Veronica think that Andrew is trying to escape her clutches to topple her over in the witch clan?â
I couldnât believe it.
All of it was just outrageous to me since I knew Andrew as nothing but a carefree gentleman.
Veronica had no reason to suspect him of vying for the throne.
âItâs complicated, and every clan has its secrets,â Caleb told me in a deep, brooding voice.
âA lot of things must be unclear to you because youâre not a part of their clan.
â
I didnât reply and just sighed.
Andrew and I were just pretending to be a couple, and I didnât care if he hid something from me.
I should just focus on the important thing: save myself from Veronicaâs attacks.
Caleb and I fell silent as we both seemed to hit a dead end once again.
It was a long time before I asked woefully, âWhat should we do now? We might have the IP address, but that didnât prove anything.
We couldnât do anything to them even if we knew about the truth.
â
I wasnât against just anyone.
Veronica was the leader of the witch clan-I couldnât take her lightly.
Even if I had proof, it wouldnât be easy to bring her down.
