Debraâs POV:
Addyâs attempt to comfort Shirley had no effect.
Instead, Shirley frowned sadly and said in disgust, âIâm disfigured, so what? Iâm still the leaderâs daughter.
Beauty was never my most valuable asset.
Even disfigured, nobody can take away what I want.
â
After saying that, Shirley looked at me smugly, clearly trying to provoke a reaction.
Shirley took my daughter and now she stared at me smugly.
I was so furious that I almost felt sick.
I couldnât hold back and yelled at Shirley, âYou have a mother who is the head of the clan.
You can get anything you want.
So why did you take my daughter? Return my child to me!â
Shirley merely smiled scornfully and turned her gaze to Andrew.
Furrowing his brow, Andrew asked, âWhat do you want?â
Shirley didnât answer but asked, âDonât you already know?â
Andrewâs expression grew darker, yet he replied with control, âAs long as Abby is unharmed, Iâll consent to any demand you make.
â
This time, Shirleyâs smile was tinged with sadness, and she even shed a few tears.
âI love you so much.
Canât you see what I want?â
Andrew paused, looking first at me, then back at Shirley.
He gave a self-mockery smile and nodded in agreement.
âAlright, Iâll marry you, but you must return Abby to Debra now.
â
Shirley responded quickly, âNo way! How can I be sure you wonât go back on your word once I hand over the child to Debra?â
Tears of frustration welled up in my eyes.
What had I done to deserve this? Why must my child and I endure such torment?
I felt like I was about to break down.
Seeing my distress, Andrew said to Shirley, âAt least you should let us know the childâs current condition, right? Do you really expect me to marry someone who harms a child?â
Shirley promised earnestly, âDonât worry.
I wonât harm Debraâs child.
I just want to be with you.
Once weâre married, I assure you the child will be returned safely.
â
The three of us exchanged glances, understanding that Shirley wouldnât release the child until she was married to Andrew.
Concerned that Shirley might become overly emotional, Addy suggested she rest and asked us to leave the room.
Stepping outside Shirleyâs room, Caleb whispered, âI have observed the area.
The child isnât in Shirleyâs room, but given Shirley lacks a private residence, Abby and the bodyguards who took her must be somewhere in the manor.
â
I nodded, feeling somewhat relieved.
Caleb added, âDonât worry.
I have already sent my people to discreetly search this place.
We should find the childâs location soon.
â
I remained silent, but speaking with Shirley had strangely reassured me a bit.
Oddly, my intuition told me Shirley was being honest.
She only wanted Andrew and meant no harm to the child.
Abby should be fine for now.
