I refused to believe what the nurse said.
In a state of madness, I yanked out the infusion tube from my arm and stumbled out of the ward.
âWait! Where are you going?â
The nurse anxiously called after me and hurried to catch up to me.
I opened the door and tried to shake her off, but I accidentally bumped into someone in the process.
That familiar scent⦠It was Caleb!
âDebra? Youâre awake!â
The moment he saw me, there was a flash of joy in his eyes.
But when his eyes swept over to the wound on the back of my hand where the infusion tube had just been pulled out, the joy in his eyes was quickly replaced with anger
âYou just woke up, yet youâre so eager to Leave,â Caleb remarked with a sneer.
âWhatâs the matter? In a rush to bury Harlan?â
I immediately looked up at him with boiling resentment.
But Caleb didnât get the hint and continued, âIf thatâs the case, Iâm afraid itâs futile.
His body was completely burnt to ashes in the explosion,â he said with a cruel smile.
A rage I had never felt before surged through my veins, causing me to tremble uncontrollably
âCaleb, my daughter was in that car, too!â
My voice was full of anger and despair, echoing in the corridor of the hospital.

Debraâs POV:
Upon hearing my words of anguish, Caleb fell into stunned silence.
He stood frozen in place, with obvious shame and panic in his eyes.
After a long silence, he finally cleared his throat and said in a Low voice, âIâm sorry, Debra.
â
He lowered his head guiltily.
âI didnât know your daughter was also in the car.
I thought she was at home.
â
I felt as though someone had stabbed my heart with an invisible knife.
At that moment, I felt as though my soul had left my cold, stiff body.
Yes, my daughterâ-my Life, my Love-was also in the car.
And Iâd never get to see her again.
I couldnât help but burst into tears of despair.
My hot tears trickled down my cheeks and fell on the cold floor.
âElena⦠Sheâs gone⦠My daughter is gone.
