âWhoâs Dylan?â she asked curiously.
I didnât know how to explain it to her, so I could only shoot Carlos a murderous glare.
Realizing he had said something wrong, Carlos quickly clamped his mouth shut.
I, on the other hand, was in a dilemma.
I couldnât Let Debra know about Dylan yet, so how was I supposed to answer her question.
After racking my brains for a way out of this, I came up with an excuse to get both me and Carlos away from Debra
Carlos thought that I was going to help him wash the pen marks off his face.
As soon as we retreated to the bathroom, he looked at me gratefully and sighed.
âElena totally ruined my face.
Thanks for offering to help me clean it.
â
I rolled my eyes in exasperation and snapped, âWash your own face!â
Carlos was speechless.
âOh, so I was just a tool for you to escape Debra?â
He turned away from me aggrievedly, and I could see his gloomy expression from his reflection in the mirror.
âItâs good that you know whatâs up,â I replied flatly, unfazed by the pitiful look on his face.
Carlos had no choice but to accept his fate, so he begrudgingly started to wash his face.
He whined, âDid Elena use permanent markers? I canât seem to wash it off.
Oh, my God! My face is ruined!â
I glanced at him and found that indeed, Carlosâ face had been scrubbed raw, but there were still traces of marker on it.
Carlos sighed dramatically.
âI have a date with Sally tomorrow! I canât meet her looking like this!
While patting his face dry with a towel, he muttered, âTaking care of
Dylan wasnât as hard as this.
I said unhappily, âDonât you dare mention Dylan again-especially when
Debraâs around.
Just keep your mouth shut.

Carlos paused what he was doing and turned his head to look at me in confusion.
âCaleb, havenât you told Debra about Dylan yet?â
âNot yet.
â I leaned against the wall with a long face.
This matter really upset me.
âTrust me, Carlos.
I want to tell her the truth more than anything, but
I havenât found the right opportunity.
â
âIsnât now a good opportunity?â Without hesitation, Carlos puffed out his chest and gave me his two centsâ worth.
âJust be honest.
Besides, since I just mentioned him, she might be wondering who Dylan is.
