Gwen was stunned for a moment, then quickly shook her head angrily
âHow can I eat it? Jenifer specifically prepared it for you!â
She even added, âDebra, if you donât eat it, itâll just go to waste.
â
I didnât respond right away and thought about it for a moment.
No matter what Gwen did, she couldnât force me to eat it.

I promise Iâll eat it later.
â
Gwenâs face was full of unwillingness, but she had no choice but to take her leave.
âDonât forget to eat it, okay? Donât let Jenifer down.

âDebra, hereâs the thing you want.
â Carlos handed the package to me.
âCaleb wanted to see you, but he was called away by his father.
â
âThatâs fine.

Looking at me warily, Carlos asked with concern, âHowâre you holding up? Is there anyone making things difficult for you here?â
I smiled and answered cryptically, âYouâll know if you stay for breakfast.
What do you say? I promise itâll be worth your while.
â
Carlos squinted at me, his curiosity evidently piqued.
Soon, Denise emerged from the kitchen carrying a tray of breakfast food.
When she saw Carlos, she greeted him warmly.
âGood morning, Carlos!â
âGood morning,â Carlos replied with a polite nod.
Seeing that he had come here alone, Denise asked, âWhereâs Caleb?â
