Debraâs POV:
Elena and I played for quite some time.
In the afternoon, she began missing Caleb a little.
âMommy, I want to meet Daddy.
Where is he?
Why hasnât he come home yet?â
I explained honestly, âDylan is sick.
Your daddy needs to take care of him in the hospital.
He will only be able to come home after a few days.
Elena, youâre a good girl.
Letâs stop thinking about him for now.
â
With an aggrieved look, Elena exclaimed, âBut I havenât seen Daddy in so many days!â
Tears pooled in her eyes and she was going to start wailing the next second.
I didnât want to disappoint her, and my guilt forced me to promise her, âDonât worry.
You will see him in a few days.
He also misses you.
Elena pursed her lips unhappily and eyed me suspiciously.
âMommy, did you quarrel with Daddy? Thatâs the reason he hasnât come home.
Right?â
I immediately refuted her speculation.
âI didnât quarrel with him.
Donât overthink.
â
Elena retorted, âYou must have quarreled with Daddy.
You have been so sad these past few days.
I think youâre jealous because Daddy has been spending all his time with Dylan!â
Elena was behaving like an adult.
She patted my shoulder and said comfortingly, âMommy, donât be angry.
Itâs okay if Daddy doesnât have time to come home because he is looking after Dylan.
We can go to the hospital to visit them.
Wonât that solve the problem? And our family can spend time together.
â
âDo you mean we will spend time with Dylan?â
âYes,â Elena replied with an innocent nod.
Deniseâs pitiful but scheming expression crossed my mind, and I immediately rejected this plan.

âNo.
We canât do that.
â
âWhy?â Elena pouted in a disgruntled manner.
She tugged at my clothes, acting like a spoiled child, and whined, âI want to see Dylan, Mommy.
â
Since this was a question of my daughterâs safety, I had absolutely no intentions of giving in.
I said in a very serious tone, âElena,
I promise that I will let you visit Dylan as soon as he wakes up.
But until then, you will have to stay by my side for your safety.
If you donât, I wonât let the two of you meet.
â
âFine.
â Although Elena was highly dissatisfied, she reluctantly agreed.
