âYouâre quite the happy little family, Slateâ, an older dark haired woman, who had an uncanny resemblance to Slate said.
âMom?â, Slate said in disbelief while Callie shouted, âGrandmaâ.
Gisele looked in confusion. This was Slateâs mom? She was very beautiful and it showed where Slate had taken his features.
It was then that she noticed the girl, or rather, the woman behind her. She was dark haired with pretty violet eyes.
âWho is this?â, Slateâs mother, Whitney asked Slate frostily after hugging Callie warmly.
Gisele started answering, but Slate beat her to it.
âMom, this is my, uh⦠Callieâs babysitterâ, Slate said.
Gisele was a little disappointed when she heard babysitter then she realized that, that was exactly what she was! A few kisses exchanged here and there did not make them a couple. Jeez! What was she thinking.
âBabysitter, hmm? Anyways, Slate come with me, and you too Jennyâ, Whitney said without even sparing a glance in Giseleâs direction.
Jenny trailed behind them to Slateâs office leaving Callie and Gisele alone.
âCome on, sweetie, letâs go to your roomâ, Gisele said softly.
Callie didnât argue and they went calmly upstairs to Callieâs room.
âGigi, are you mad at me?â, Callie asked, her lower lip trembling.
âOh, God, of course not honey. Why would you think that?â
âYou didnât talk to meâ, she replied.
ADVERTISEMENT âIâm not mad at you, I could never be mad at you. I love you, ange du cielâ (angel from heaven)
âI love you too, Gigiâ, Callie replied. Gisele carried Callie into her room and lay her on the bed.
âGigi, I want my own tea partyâ, Callie said sleepily.
âAfter your nap, ok?â, Gisele said âOkay, Gigiâ, Callie said before falling asleep.
Gisele left the room as quietly as she could and as she closed the door, a figure appeared in front of her.
She let out a small scream. âHey, itâs me, Jennyâ, the person said.
âAh, you scared meâ, Gisele said, breathing out a sigh of relief.
âCan we talk?â, Jenny asked.
Gisele wanted to refuse but she could not find it in herself to hate the girl.
âSureâ, Gisele said. Jenny slipped her arm in Giseleâs and they headed towards Giseleâs room. They entered the room and Jenny sat on the bed.
âNot to sound rude, but what did you want?â, Gisele asked impatiently.
âI just wanted to talkâ, Jenny said. Gisele nodded for her to continue.
âI know you love Slateâ, Jenny started and as Gisele opened her mouth to protest, she held up her hand.
âDonât deny it. The way you look at him shows and thereâs always love shining in your eyes when you see him. I know that feeling very wellâ, Jenny said sadly.
ADVERTISEMENT Giseleâs curiosity was piqued. âWhat do you mean?â, she asked.
âWhitney wants me to marry Slate. My mother does too. They claim it is for the betterment of both our families. But I donât see it! Just because they want that doesnât mean I want it too!.â, Jenny said, then starting sobbing.
Gisele took her in her arms and comforted her. The girl was obviously going through some love issues.
Gisele started speaking but Jenny said, âWait, let me finish. Thereâs this guy, I met him in my last year of college. We hit off, we became the closest of friends and no one could separate our bond. Then I realized I was in love with him. To cut the story short, I told him how I felt and he to)d me he loved me too! I was afraid my unrequited love for him will grow a rift between us but the only thing it did was strengthen our relationship. I told Mom about it but she was hell bent on me getting married to Slate. I canât get into a loveless marriage, my mother is living through that and itâs not pretty. I love Kennedy and Iâm not sure I can ever stop myself from doing soâ
âIâm so sorry. I misjudged you totallyâ, Gisele said with remorse in her voice.
âItâs okay. I understand you totally. If I were you, Iâd feel the sameâ, Jenny said with a teasing glint in her eyes.
Gisele laughed and they started a conversation. She discovered that Jenny loved reading just as she did, and she was a huge fan of Greek Mythology stories. She was also a Potterhead.
âIâd better head downstairs nowâ, Jenny said.
âIt was nice meeting you. I hope we can talk again sometimeâ, Gisele replied, smiling widely.
Thirty Minutes Laterâ¦
Gisele heard a knock on her door. She told the person to come in. It was Slate.
âUh, heyâ, Slate said.
âHi?â, Gisele replied but it was more of a question as Slate was behaving very unlike him.
âI need to talk to youâ, he said, then added, âMay I?â, gesturing towards the bed.
Gisele wanted to speak but thought better of it so she simply nodded.
ADVERTISEMENT âLook Iâm really sorry about my mother, sheâs like that to people she doesnât know.â, Slate said apologetically.
Really? I was under the impression it was hate at first sight for both of usâ¦, Gisele thought but kept it to herself.
âAnd what I said about you being the nannyâ¦â
âWas complete reality. Itâs okay, Slate, I understand fully. Look, just because we kissed doesnât mean weâre together, I get that. Youâ¦â, Gisele interrupted.
âWait, Gisele! Thatâs what I wanted to talk about. I want us to explore what we have between us.â, Slate said, looking into her eyes.
âSlate, mon Dieu, I donât know anything about you and same goes for me. I donât even know your middle nameâ, Gisele said shaking her head.
âI know, Gisele but we can try.â, he said desperately.
âWhy are you so intent on making us work?â, Gisele asked, standing and shooting her hands in the air.
âBecause, Gisele, I realized how short life is.â, Slate said.
Gisele looked a bit pensive. Then determined.
âOkay, youâre right, lifeâs too short. But we need to get to know each other and go on dates before anything happens.â, Gisele added on second thought.
âI promise. Oh, and by the way, my middle nameâs Kevinâ, Slate said and Gisele smiled.
âGisele, can we go out tomorrow, on a date?â, Slate asked, a bit nervous. It had been so long he had done this; normally, it was the women who flocked to him not him asking them out.
Giseleâs eyes grew wide and she said, âYess! But wait, whoâs gonna stay with Callieâ, she wondered but before Slate could answer, she said, âI have the perfect solution. Iâll call up Lizzie and ask her. Iâm sure sheâll acceptâ.
Slate simply smiled then left the room and closed the door gently, leaving an overexcited Gisele there.
