166 Chapter 166 : Return of the prince
The caravan of five hundred elf and dwarve soldiers moved at a steady pace towards Gavaria. They had finally emerged from the enchanted forest and were now moving through the outer shires of the kingdom that were littered with small huts and fields.
âI canât remember the last I was here,â Aiden commented as he watched the small huts slowly pass by. âIt looks so quiet and deserted.â
âI donât think time has anything to do with the desertion of the outer shires,â Gareth commented as he furrowed his brows. These parts were mostly inhabited by the poorer people of the kingdom, small time farmers who lived simple lives. Their absence here might have had something to to with the new government put in place.
âWhat do you think happened?â Ivan muttered
âI have a hunch,â Zander replied, âit might have something to do with a silver haired power crazed lycan.â
The caravan moved slowly and cautiously until larger buildings began showing at a distance. Gareth felt a flood of nostalgia hit him. He remembered when he had first set his eyes on Melissa at the knighting ceremony, gods he couldnât wait to see her again.
As they entered the capital of Gavaria it was evident that a lot had changed. The streets that were once filled with playing children, chatting merchants and people of all ages now seemed oddly organized. Only merchants roamed them and even they seemed tired and lifeless. The others who were moving up and down the Gavarian roads were soldiers, mostly lycans, who eyed the caravan skeptically.
Gareth kept his cool and led the caravan forward towards the royal palace, he needed to meet with his father and hopefully convince him to join in on his plan. As they moved, Gareth spotted some lycans who were speaking to a human merchant, they had their claws out and were baring them a little too close to the manâs throat.
Gareth pulled away from his men and galloped towards the soldiers.
.....
âYour grace wait!â Zander tried to stop the dark haired prince, but he was already dismounting his horse and walking towards the three lycans.
âLet him go,â Gareth commanded. He stood a few feet away from the men, âwhat kind of lycans bare their claws at a defenseless man?â
âAnd who the bloody hell are you?â One of the lycans responded venomously while slowly closing the gap between him and Gareth. He cocked his head and noticed Garethâs pointy ears and chuckled. âListen elf, security and patrol is for the lycans. You stick to your department okay.â
âI wonât repeat myself a third time,â Gareth spoke firmly, âleave the man alone.â
âYou have a little bit of a soft spot for these bloody humans I see,â the lycan rasped. âYou want to bare his punishment on his behalf then?â
âWhatever he has done Iâm sure doesnât warrant you spilling his blood,â Gareth responded while inching closer to the lycan.
âWho the hell do you think you are?!â The lycan rose his fist about to hit Gareth in the face when a vine that Gareth had been slowly creeping up the manâs body grabbed his arm and tightened itself around his body.
When the lycan fell face flat to the ground, his two friends left the merchant and started making their way towards Gareth. One of them was about to pull out a weapon when the ground beneath him liquidated and swallowed him, leaving only his head.
The other one charged at Gareth with his claws bared but hit into what felt like a hard wall of air. The solid air pushed him back with force and rammed him against the wall behind and rendered him unconscious.
The human looked up at the eleven prince in surprise, he was an elf, why had he saved a mere human like him.
âYour grace more are coming!â Zanderâs voice echoed from behind.
âGo!â Gareth commanded the man who thanked him profusely before running away. The prince turned around and noticed he was already surrounded by about twenty lycan soldiers with weapons in hand.
âYouâre coming with us elf!â One of the lycans yelled, âyouâre under arrest for crimes against the crown and attacking a soldier!â

King James Burchard was just from having a meeting with his newly appointed council. A while back he had decided that king Elricâs reign was oppressive and unjust, and hence decided to make plans on taking back Gavaria. He wanted his kingdom to be a free and safe town not just for the awakened but for the humans as well. He didnât want to continue the cycle of hate anymore.
The king was walking down the hall when one of his generals rushed to his side, âyour highness!.. your highness!â
King Burchard turned around and eyed the breathless man, âwhat is it?â
âIn the town square..â the man spoke breathlessly.
âOut with it man!â
âIts the prince!â The general spoke while still trying to catch his breath, âprince Adam, he has returned!â

âCome on Clovis, that was a direct order from your king,â Jeffrey pestered his brother. âNow you have to tell us.â
âAre you afraid one of us will steal her from you?â Elric teased his brother. But unknown to him, that comment made Clovis a little upset.
âWell if you wonât tell us thatâs fine,â Jeffrey commented while shrugging his shoulders, âspeaking of relationships, my love life has been extremely boring over the years, so I was thinking of looking out for potential wives or mistresses. But if Iâm being honest, the lycans and nosferatu women are too aggressive for me, and I donât really like pointy ears so I canât do elves.â
âWhy donât you find a dwarve then,â Elric innocently suggested.
âOh my goddess thatâs a great idea your majesty, no wonder youâre the king. So wise,â Jeffrey exclaimed sarcastically.
Clovis frowned not liking the direction this conversation was taking.
âSay, that dwarve woman.. what was her name again,â Jeffrey spoke while stroking his chin, âah yes Julia. Would you mind if I made my move on her?â
âI donât see why Iâd have a problem with that,â Elric responded with a shrug, âbut some people may not be too happy with you canoodling with the enemy.â
âIâm willing to take my chances,â Jeffrey responded, âI mean she is a beautiful woman after all, I wouldnât mind hoisting that little portable petit body of hers off the floor and tossing her into my-â
Clovis lunged at Jeffrey and had him in a chokehold in mere seconds, âstay the fuck away from my Julia!â He growled. His fangs were bared and his nails had grown, even his silver hair was standing on end.
âYour Julia?â Jeffrey commented while trying not to choke.
âClovis?..â Elric muttered in shock, âare you... are you in love with Julia?!â

The carriage halted outside a large beautiful white cottage that was situated in the lash green countryside. The three princes hopped off the carriage and walked towards the entrance where their father was waiting for them with a smile on his face.
After exchanging greetings they walked into the home where a freshly prepared meal was waiting for them. They sat down on the table eating and catching up.
âI know itâs ridiculous of me to ask but how are you fairing with running the kingdom Natha.. errm Elric,â Bradley scoffed nervously, âsorry, Iâm still trying to wrap my head around this name change.â
âItâs alright father,â Elric responded, âit took a bit of time for everyone.â
âYou know,â the man continued while cutting his meat, âyour mother gave you that name. Itâs a shame that you took up your lycan name instead.â
âI understand your sentiment father, but Elric is my actual birth name,â Elric responded.
âOf course,â the king responded. There was a hint of sadness and disappointment in his voice but he didnât want to force his son into anything. âAnd the kingdom, how are you managing it?â
Jeffrey glanced at his younger brother and smirked. When Bradley Aldos was king, his reign revolved around being just and fair, all his sons knew that regardless of what had recently transpired with the awakening and all, he would have still advocated equality across all races in his kingdom. So Jeffrey was very interested in seeing how much longer Elric would keep the fact that he had become a tyrant from his father, and all because of a woman.
âItâs going great,â Elric responded and focused on his food.
âI hear your wife is back home,â his father added on, âIâm glad, it gets lonely in that big castle.â
Ah yes his wife, his wife who was in love with another man and was only with him because he threatened suicide. âYes she is..â
âYou should bring her over one of these days,â Bradley suggested, âhaving a womanâs touch around here, even if itâs for a few days would make a huge difference.ân/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
âIâll be sure to do that,â Elric responded in a low tone of voice.
âSpeaking of loneliness ,â Bradley continued, now catching the attention of everyone at the table. His bubbly and happy demeanor suddenly turned grim, âyou all know the death of your mother.. no.. the murder of your mother hit me very hard.â
Clovis felt his chest tighten at the mention of the word âmurderâ, he wanted to stand up and correct his father, she wasnât murdered, it was an accident.
âI finally would like to move on from all this pain,â the man added on. âAnd thereâs only one way to do that.â
âAnd what way is that father?â Jeffrey questioned while leisurely sipping his wine. It felt good not being the target of unsolicited guilt for once.
âElric,â Bradley spoke while looking intensely at his youngest son. âThat dwarve woman who killed my wife, do you still have her in your custody?â
Elric shot his eyes to Clovis who looked like he was running out of air. âUmmh well yes father but-â
âShe needs to face the consequences for her crime,â Bradley Aldos spoke, âonly then will I feel that your motherâs soul is at peace.â
