Thank you so much for your support on the first chapter!
So, many people told me to slow things down, so, that's what i'm going to do :] Hope you like it! ^_^
After standing near my locker for what seemed like hours, I checked my timetable and went for my last lesson for the day.
Chemistry.
The hallway was sparsely populated; everyone had already gone for their classes.
I started walking and tried to recollect where I'd seen the Chemistry lab. It was one of the corner classes; I'd seen it on my way to Biology. I climbed the stairs quickly and walked towards the end of the hallway. After entering the class, I saw 17 pairs of eyes turn towards me. This was bad, I never liked being under the spotlight. But since I was new, this was definitely going to happen.
I tried ignoring each one of them and sat at an empty seat in the second row.
The boy next to me turned towards me and smiled. "Hi! I'm Jared, you must be new here."
"Yes and I'm Ashley," I replied with a small smile on my face.
"Ashley," he said, testing my name. "I like your name, quite common but it's still nice and I'm sorry but that seat is taken by someone."
"Oh, sorry, I'll just go sit somewhere else," I replied with a fake smile.
He smiled apologetically while I got off my chair and looked around the class. A table with two chairs in the last row was empty. I sighed and walked towards it. Throwing my bag to the floor, I sat on the chair and placed my chin on my palm.
The Chemistry teacher entered the class. He was a young man with a perfectly shaped beard. He noticed me and opened his mouth to say something when the doors flew open and a muscular boy came inside. He was the boy who was in the canteen. He was the boy I played with when I was young.
Ethan.
The teacher sighed as if it wasn't unusual to be late to class and Ethan walked towards me and my breath caught in my throat. He was absolutely gorgeous.
Wait a minute, why was he walking towards me?
And then realization hit me, the only empty chair was next to me. He was going to sit next to me. He sat on the chair next to me and relaxed.
After a quick introduction with the professor, Mr. Theze, we started the class.
"Ashley," I jumped a little as I heard my name come out as a whisper from the person sitting next to me.
I looked to my right and saw Ethan looking at me with a small smile on his face.
I raised my eyebrows at him indicating a 'what?'
"Nothing. Do you remember me?" he whispered.
"I do."
He grinned at me showing his perfectly straight, white teeth.
I decided it would be best to continue talking to him, I asked him the first thing that came to my mind. "Do you like Chemistry?"
He leaned closer to me and whispered, I could feel his breath fan my face and I shivered a little. "You mean this boring Chemistry with words?" he continued before I could answer. "Or this sizzling chemistry between us?"
I felt my cheeks getting warm and I knew I was blushing. I raised my eyebrows with a scowl to try to hide my blush.
"Nice try," I said and the smile on his face grew wider. My eyes took in every inch of his face with pleasure. I continued, "But you've got to try better than that to impress me."
A soft laugh escaped his lips. "Who said I was trying to impress you?"
I wracked through my brain to think for a smart answer and replied, "Who said you were not trying to impress me?"
He raised his eyebrows and grinned.
I forced my eyes to look in front and tried to take in every word Mr. Theze said. Didn't he see us talking? Well, I guess we got lucky.
After complete silence of 15 minutes, Ethan said something. I looked at him and said, "Sorry? Did you just say something?"
"Wow! You were listening to every word Mr. Theze spoke but you can't pay a little attention to this totally hot guy sitting next to you?" he said gesturing at himself with his hands.
I rolled my eyes and said, "Are you always dramatic?"
He looked surprised.
I smirked and took down some formulas written on the board.
"You're different now," he said softly.
I glanced at him from the corner of my eye and continued writing. "Why do you think so?"
"I don't know, you're just," he paused and shrugged. "Different"
"Yeah, I guess so," I responded, not taking my eyes of the book.
"Where were you all these years?" he asked after a moment's silence.
"Moved twice-"
"Would you two like to share your conversation with the class?" Mr. Theze asked, clapping his hands together. He was looking at us and everyone turned behind to look.
I remained silent, showing that I was ashamed of what I did which I was not.
"No sir," I heard Ethan say.
"Well then, I hope you can stay silent for the remainder of the class," Mr. Theze responded with a strong British accent followed by a stern look.
I looked at Ethan after Mr. Theze started examining his book and writing some extra notes on the white board which had quite a lot of patches from faded marker ink. Ethan looked back at me with a smirk.
I averted my gaze since I didn't want Mr. Theze to pick on us again. After a beat or two, the bell rang loudly, leaving a soft echo behind the shrillness.
Immediately, Ethan got up and stormed out of the class. I frowned, he could at least say bye. I packed my things and left the class with anger. Wait a minute, why was I angry? He didn't have to say bye.
I tried ignoring my thoughts and went outside to look for Abby and Erica. I decided to go to my locker first to dump my books and collect some for revision.
After reaching my locker, I tried in multiple different combinations but my locker didn't open. Sighing loudly, I opened my bag pack and dug through it for the paper the lady at the reception this morning.
"Forgot your combination?"
Instantly, my head snapped in the direction the voice came from.
"Yep, new here," I said, removing the almost crumpled paper and scanning through it in search of my locker combination.
"I've heard," she said, peering at me through her glasses.
I smiled at her and entered my locker combination - 0630.
"I'm Rachel," she said, extending her hand forward with a smile.
Rachel seemed like a simple girl. She had regular sized glasses and long, brunette hair was pulled into a ponytail. She was wearing jeans with a T-shirt and a sweater on top of it.
"Ashley," I said with a smile and shook her hand even though it seemed really formal.
"I've got to go, see you around," Rachel said, shutting her locker.
I nodded eagerly with a smile. She smiled back and began walking towards the exit. Grabbing my Biology and Math books, I headed towards the exit too.
I felt someone pat on my shoulder and turned around to see who it was. A tall and muscular guy was standing in front of me with a big smile on his face.
"Hi! I'm Chris, heard you're new here, so thought I'd come introduce myself," he said with a closed mouth smile.
I smiled back at him, "I'm Ashley and that's really sweet of you."
He was tall, muscular and extremely fair - three factors many girls look for in guys. Though this was not what caught my attention, he had forest green eyes which mirrored mine.
"Done checking me out?" he asked.
I blinked. "I wasn't, um, checking you out."
He grinned and shook his head.
"Really! I wasn't," I exclaimed.
"Yeah, whatever you say," he stated, trying to hide the smile forming on his face.
Rolling my eyes, I said, "I have to leave. It was nice meeting you."
"Same here," he said with a polite smile.
That was weird, why would someone just come up and randomly say hi?
I started walking on the sidewalk in hopes that a cab would pass by. Mom couldn't pick me up since she was quite busy. Being an engineer is not easy.
Leaning against a dusty pole, I waited for a cab. I noticed many cars leaving from the school. I should ask mom if she can get me a car, I wouldn't mind second-hand either since there is a possibility we might move any year. If the company mom works with gets a good deal and if they think that mom would be a great addition to helping with the Project, we might have to move again.
I decided I should walk a bit further, a cab won't magically appear.
"Hey! Ashley!"
I looked behind to see who called me, when I didn't notice anyone, I continued walking.
"Ashley!"
I looked next to me and saw Ethan's head popping out of a car window.
"Hey," I said with a closed mouth smile.
"Need a ride?" he asked, pulling over.
"Where's Erica?" I asked, clutching onto my bag.
"She's staying back for some work," he said, shrugging. "Want me to drop you?"
"Sure, that'd be nice," I said with a smile.
