Chapter 25: Chapter 25

My Best Friend's BrotherWords: 10370

We silently walked down the quiet alley while holding hands and slowly swinging them back and forth. The streetlights formed long, stretched shadows in front of us and moved forward at the same pace we did.

“So, when you said ‘to finish our date,’” he whispered. “Did you mean walking like creeps?”

“Walking like creeps?” I questioned, raising one eyebrow. “I thought this was romantic.”

He chuckled. “Right, of course it is.”

“Besides, shouldn’t you be the one planning what we should be doing?” I asked.

“Yeah, I tried and you saw how that turned out to be,” he said, shrugging.

I laughed loudly. “I really did have fun, Ethan.”

“Right,” he muttered.

I chuckled, rubbing my thumb over his hand.

“Ethan?”

“Yeah?” he asked, looking at me.

“Why did you get so jealous?” I asked, feeling the corners of my mouth lift up but I tried to control.

He scoffed. “I wasn’t jealous.”

“So, you left me there alone, came back home, refused to talk to me and you’re telling me that you weren’t jealous?” I asked, mockingly.

He shook his head and silence fell between us. I sighed inwardly. Tomorrow, I would go back home and I don’t think I’m happy about that. Three weeks just flew by. The long mornings with Ethan constantly yelling at us to hurry up, the Romeo and Juliet play, the kiss between Ethan and me, getting drunk, going on a date with Jared, finding out Jared is my step-brother, Abby and Michael getting into a relationship, falling for Ethan and now, my date with him.

Wow, I thought. These three weeks seem so long.

“I wasn’t jealous,” he said suddenly and I nodded. “I was annoyed that Austin could make you have more fun in like five minutes and I couldn’t do that throughout our date.”

“What? That’s so not true!” I exclaimed, moving in front of him to face him and stop him. “Ethan, Asutin and I met after years. What do you expect?”

He looked at me sheepishly. He clasped my hand and pulled me along with him.

“Let’s go watch a movie,” he suggested.

“What? It’s quite late,” I said.

“You have a better idea?” he asked. “Other than walking, of course.”

I huffed. “No.”

He chuckled and we continued walking.

We entered the theatre, escaping from the cool breeze outside.

“What movie are we going to watch?” I asked, scanning the posters all over the walls.

He shrugged next to me. “I don’t know. Which one do you want to watch?”

I sighed and looked around. No one was around, it was extremely silent. There was no one waiting at the refreshments counter either.

“Hey, Ash?” Ethan asked, interrupting me while I was reading what was written on the posters.

“Yeah?” I asked.

“See the person sitting at the ticket counter?” he whispered, pointing towards a glass window.

I followed his finger and saw that the man was peacefully sleeping in his chair. I looked up at Ethan, curiously. He had a slight smirk on his face and I knew that something stupid was going through his brain.

“What are you thinking, Ethan?” I asked softly, not wanting to wake the man, who was now snoring, up.

His smirk widened and he grabbed my hand and started running, pulling me behind him. I yelped and tried to keep up in the high heels I was wearing. My heels made loud clanking sounds against the shining floor. He reached the door to the entrance of the movie halls and pushed it open, pulling me behind him.

“Ethan!” I exclaimed, whispering loudly.

“Quick! Choose a number,” he instructed, waiting impatiently.

“Er-10!” I exclaimed.

He gave me a quick smile and we ran towards the movie hall and I stopped him before we could enter.

“What is wrong with you?” I whispered as we entered the dark room. “Couldn’t we just buy tickets like normal people and enjoy a movie with popcorn?”

He chuckled but didn’t look at me.

“You have to admit, that was fun,” he said.

“No.”

“Yes,” he replied. “Now, come on, let’s go in.”

Without wanting to, I followed him in, afraid that the man who was snoring would manage to catch us.

What was Ethan thinking? Just running in like that. Though, I hate to admit this but it was quite thrilling. The dark room was slightly lit up by the bright screen in front. A redhead girl and dark haired boy were tossing a snowman’s head to each other and people were giggling in the theatre.

I squealed and grabbed Ethan’s arm. “Frozen!”

Few people next to us gave me an annoyed look and some hushed me as well. I rolled my eyes.

“Bad choice,” Ethan murmured.

“No!” I whispered and clasped his hand, pulling him with me.

Luckily, we found three empty chairs towards the corner and we sat down.

“Who names a snowman Olaf?” Ethan asked, leaning towards me.

I rolled my eyes. “He’s cute, okay?”

“Cuter than me?” he asked, smirking.

I blushed as his eyes searched my face in the dark. Smiling, Ethan looked up at the screen again. I leaned forward and kissed his cheek. “No.”

I smiled as the corner of his mouth lifted up.

“I can’t believe you made me watch the entire movie,” Ethan whined as we left the theatre along with the rest of the people who watched Frozen. Most of them were kids, out of which many were crying and talking loudly.

I laughed. “I know you liked the movie.”

“Oh my god, Ash! I totally loved it! It was so beautiful!” he said sarcastically.

I laughed at his try on a fake bimbo accent.

“Seriously, Ash,” he said. “If you ever make me watch another animated movie again, I will-”

“You will what?” I challenged.

He smirked. “That’s for me to know and you to find out.”

I rolled my eyes. “You’re just saying that because you don’t know what you’re going to.”

“You want to find out?” he asked, raising his eyebrows.

“Nope, I’m good,” I responded a bit too quickly.

He chuckled and we started walking again. I wrapped my arms around myself as the cold breeze hit me. Ethan, being the gentleman that he is, removed his leather jacket and placed it on my shoulders. I smiled and pulled it closer, thanking him. His familiar and unique cologne washed over me. I halted and placed my hand on his shoulder, making him stop too and bent down to remove the heels which were killing me. Removing both of them, I relaxed.

Ethan raised an eyebrow. “You’re going to walk barefoot?”

“Yes,” I replied, nodding.

He chuckled.

“Ethan, I want ice cream,” I demanded. “Now!”

He stared at me in confusion. “Where am I supposed to find ice cream for you this late?!”

I stared at him sheepishly. “I don’t know but I want ice cream."

He sighed. “Ash, we should go home. I’m sure there’s some ice cream at home.”

I shook my head. “No! I want ice cream now!”

“But where-”

“McDonalds!” I exclaimed.

“And for your ice cream you want to walk all the way to McDonalds?” he asked, staring at me as if I was crazy.

I nodded enthusiastically and unlocked my phone to search for the nearest McDonalds outlet. After finding one, we walked while talking and laughing. It was dark and I would have been scared if I was out here alone but with Ethan around, I felt safe.

After walking for about fifteen minutes, I finally saw the big, bright yellow colored M. I rushed inside and Ethan followed me in. There were a few people in there- some were drinking coffee while some were enjoying their burgers. I ordered a cup of McFlurry with M&Ms and Ethan ordered a plain vanilla cone.

After we got our ice creams, we walked out. I dug into my ice cream and took a big bite.

“Thank you,” I said with a mouth full of cold ice cream, melting. Not the most attractive thing to do, I know.

Ethan chuckled.

“Oh! Look!” I said as I gulped. “A fountain!”

I pulled Ethan with me while trying to hold my heels and the ice cream cup in one hand. We sat down on the cold stone as the water sprung out of a little cupid.

“This is the best date I’ve ever had, Ethan,” I told him genuinely after a moment's silence.

He smiled. “My pleasure.”

Ethan lifted his cone to take a bite. Smiling mischievously, I placed my hand under the cone and pushed it towards him. The ice cream smashed across his face while I laughed loudly. He glared at me but I knew he wasn’t serious because of the small smile playing on his lips. I continued laughing. His nose was covered with ice cream and he looked super adorable.

After I was done laughing, I wet my hands in the water which was resting in the fountain and wiped the ice cream off his face. While I was cleaning his gorgeous face, he shoved the ice cream cone right in my face. I shrieked and dropped my ice cream in the fountain. It was Ethan’s turn to laugh this time. I felt myself laugh along with him and splashed some water to my face.

I gasped. “Ethan! Look! There are lucky pennies in here.”

He leaned forward, next to me and looked down. I put my hand inside and grabbed a few pennies. The bronze colored, circular objects shined on my palms. I admired them for a while and threw them back in except two.

I handed one to Ethan. “One for you and one for me.”

He turned to face me and our faces were just inches apart. Without hesitating, he leaned forward and gently, his lips pressed to mine. I felt shivers run down my body. Little butterflies danced in my stomach. I ran my hand through his soft, messy hair as he held me by my back. I felt the familiar feeling of me riding a rollercoaster wash over me. Our lips moved in sync and I could taste vanilla ice cream on his lips.

“You taste like vanilla ice cream,” he whispered, pulling away.

“I wonder why,” I said sarcastically and smiled.

He chuckled and kissed me again.

“Does this mean I’m your girlfriend?” I whispered on his lips.

His lips curved into a smile beneath mine. “If that’s what you want it to be.”
