Blakeâs POV~
Alexis stirs awake, as Cody walks in with the six men we met at the diner. She snuggles into me..practically disappearing in my arms. As I kiss her forehead, I link her, asking if she is okay. She just nods and whispers âLaterâ I smile and take her lips with mine.
Telling the men to take a seat, I went over everything Cody had vetted on⦠asking if they were still interested in joining our pack, and continue in their chosen fields. They all accepted and agreed. After I had sworn them all in, and dismissed them to go to each area they have chosen to work, I asked Matthew to remain behind. Staying seated, he asked âIs there something more specific you needed from me, Alpha?â
Replying to him, I said âOur head warrior is retiring in a week⦠and while I was planning on holding a competition for his position, it has come to my attention, you were a head warrior for your old pack. And, I was wondering, if you would consider taking the position?â
He mused âAs flattered as I am, Alpha Blake, I believe the competition should take place. Because, yes! I want the position..however, I would rather prove to our pack that I am qualifiedâ¦by winning. I feel it would avoid any unnecessary animosity from any of the other warriors, resenting a virtual stranger coming in and depriving them of what they may feel is their rightful placeâ
I nod, impressed, once again, by this man âI am very pleased to hear you say that! And I do agree! Plus.. it gives me the opportunity to observe your skills! You do realize your final spar will be against me..correct?â And I grin!
I hear him mumble âFuck!â And we all chuckle. Alexis sits up a little straighter in my lap and says âMatthew.. may I askâ¦where have you seen eyes the color of mine?â His head raises sharply⦠âIt was a portraitâ¦a very old portrait. It used to hang in my old pack houseâ¦of a woman.. my old Alphaâs great great grandmother. A couple hundred years ago.. I guess. No one knew for sure.. it was rumored she was a White Wolf.. but you know how legends go⦠half-truths and exaggerations.â My mate nods âWe all tend to embellish the things we are unsure ofâ¦turning them to suit what we want to believe, I thinkâ
When he left my office to check out the training field, I spun Alexis in my lap and putting my hands on each side of her face, I whispered âWhat brought those tears to your beautiful eyes? It broke me to hear you cryâ She leaned up and kissed me so sweetly, my breath caught in my throat âI found a journal my mom left. It is about me. Until I was six years old, my hair was blond..my eyes blue! On my sixth birthday, she said they changed. That they are now the color of my fatherâs eyes! I have a brother. He is seven months older than me. My father was fated to my mother.. and they only met by accident, when he had travelled to a nearby pack..close to my motherâs coven. He was already mated to a woman that had been pledged to his family before either of them were even born. My mom had been spelled by Hecate to not tell me who my father is until my 18th birthday. She even tried writing it down, without success. He doesnât even know I exist! Blakeâ¦my own father doesnât know who he is to me!â
And that explains the reason for her tears! My poor Angel! âWait!! I read something in our book while you were sleepingâ¦whereâ¦.waitâ¦Here! Here, listen, Every generation will birth one heir to the singular eye color, characteristic only of descendants of a white wolf. If we can find the name of that Alphaâs great great grandmother⦠we can trace the descendants with violet eyes! And that would only be two people⦠before we know your fatherâs name! Right, Damon? Wouldnât that be the genealogical treeing of that?â
âAbsolutely.. I will start running that downâ¦right now!â And Alexis was practically vibrating with excitementâ¦eeeeeeâ¦. and she was gone.. poof!.. like that! Then she was back. Blushing beet red âSorryâ¦itâs kind of a glitchâ I try to hold my laugh⦠âA glitch?â She nodsâ¦mumbling âyeah. It happens. I have a few⦠but thatâs a big one. I get excited and I poof. One time I poofed myself to London..when I was five. I saw a picture of the Eiffel Tower and Aunt Helena said we would go see it sometime. I got excited and poofed. To London⦠My 5 year old brain registered the Tower is in Europe.. but the only place I knew of in Europe..was London. And I got grounded.â
We all lost it.. and I tried to console her âItâs okay, babygirl! At 5 years old, that would have seemed a logical assumptionâ She saysâ¦âYeahâ¦No.. I got an hour long lecture about being a witch and having to know where I am teleporting. And I try to control it! I do. But excitement and meâ¦oil and water! And I just Poof!â Iâm noddingâ¦like I understand completely..but I get a mindlink from the kitchen ðº Alphaâ¦dinner will be delayed. Luna abruptly appeared in the kitchen and I accidentally hit her with the roastâ Okay⦠I canât hold it and bust out laughing! âWhere did you poof to, angel?â
She grimaces âI said itâs a glitch! And we could have pizza ordered in, yeah? We can even order one for chef, okay?â Iâm laughing too hard and Damon asks âWhy are we ordering pizza? Especially one for chef? Did you glitch your tiny ass into the kitchen and do something to the chef?â She just shakes her head adamantly back and forth. I link Damon what happened, just as Cody walked back in, saying the chef is threatening to quit and throwing shit around the kitchen.
And Alexis yells âOh for the love of our Goddess! It is a fucking glitch! Everybody has them! Right? We all have glitches?â And Codyâ¦.having no idea whatâs going on.. remarks âOf course, we donât have glitches! This isnât the matrix!â And she throws her shoe at him!
That was all it took for Damon to fall out of his chair holding his sidesand I put my head down on my desk, laughing so hard I was crying.
