Chapter 12: Chapter 9

My Best Mistake ✔︎Words: 5970

Ashley's Pov

It's currently Thursday morning and I'm getting ready for school.

I think im basically healed. Not fully but to a point where I can go to school.

Aaron said that we should probably go together since we are 'dating'.

I miss the feeling of going downstairs and having delicious pancakes made ready for me set at the table.

Now I don't even get breakfast.

Well I guess life works in a funny way, one day it's all sunshine and the next its like there was only ever darkness in the world.

I have learnt to cope with it though, in someway it's freeing.

Maybe it's just me being weird tho.

My phone starts ringing, drifting me away from my thoughts.

I check the name and sure enough it's Aaron.

I quickly grab my backpack and go downstairs, slowly.

I grab some money left on the counter and leave.

Finders keepers.

"Hello Lee!" Aaron greets.

"Hey, so I'm gonna meet your mother today right?" I ask getting into Aaron's car.

"Yep." He says driving off.

He opens his mouth to say something but quickly shuts it.

"What's on your mind?" I ask.

"Hmm?"

"I know you wanna say something so say it."

"Nothing.."

"No. I hate when people wanna say something but don't say it." I cross my arms.

"Look, your fight with Tyler is really affecting him."

My heart shrinks at his words.

"Why?" I ask confused.

"You are his best friend after all."

Right, friend.

"Oh well I dont wanna deal with him nor Melissa right now."

He nods and the rest of the ride to school is silent.

I can't help but wonder if Tyler really cares that much or not.

We arrive at school and get out of the car.

I'm about to walk away from Aaron before he grabs my hand grabbing all the attention from the students surrounding us.

"Ill pick you up from class lunch time." Aaron winks.

I nod and head straight to class.

It's math, great.

No one in this world will ever truly understand my hate for Maths.

Like why the hell is it the main subject?

If you don't know math you basically have very few career options.

Luckily I'm somehow good at it but doesn't help the fact that it eats up my brain.

Fuck you to whoever created math.

And a bigger fuck you to whoever created school.

It's currently lunch time and I'm standing in the hallway waiting for Aaron to come by.

"Ashleyyyyyyyy!" I hear my name and judging on the way it's being dragged I already know who it is.

Jake!

I turn around and I'm faced by my 6 ft tall, green eyed, brunette brother smiling down at my 5'2 ft self.

"Jakeyyy!" I shout engulf him in a hug.

What an amazing surprise.

"What are you doing here?" I ask.

"I saved up some money to come visit you for a few days to check on how you are doing." He smiles.

"I'm so glad! How is uni?"

"Pretty good, I've gotten a part time job and the pay is excellent. It's actually the only way I've been able to come visit you."

"Thats great." I smile.

"How are our so called parents?"

"Still the same.." I say.

"I'm so sorry I can't get you out of there sooner."

"It's okay, it's not your fault neither your responsibility."

"There you are I've been looking everywhere for you."

I turn around and face Aaron.

"Oh hey Aaron, meet my brother, Jake." I introduce them.

"You are Ashley's brother?" Aaron says shocked.

"Wait you guys know each other?" I ask.

"Yeah, he and I were friends through our other friends but we aren't really all that close." Aaron says.

"And how do you two know each other?" Jake questions.

"He is um my-"

"Her boyfriend, I'm her boyfriend." Aaron cuts me off confidently.

"Oh. Ashley can I speak with you?" He says pulling me aside.

"What?" I asked confused.

"Look, Aaron isn't the type of guy you think he is. He may seem sweet and charming but I personally know him. He is a player." Jake says.

"As much as I love your concern I am very much well aware of what I'm getting myself into. I'm not stupid." I say.

"Alright, if you say so. Ill not interfere in your matters. I have done my part in advising you, now it's upto you."

"Thank you." I say.

I have always loved Jake for this reason, he is caring but he never controls my life but rather advise me on what to do.

"Well I guess we'll catch up later, go have your lunch." Jake smiles.

"Bye!" I say before pulling him into a hug.

He walks away and I walk towards Aaron.

"Let's go." I say.

We walk into the cafeteria and it is packed with people everywhere.

Word spread fast that me and Aaron are now dating.

As soon as we step foot in the cafeteria, all eyes were on us.

People started gossiping, probably about how Aaron is just playing me or how I don't deserve him or how such an ugly girl like me got to date the Greek god looking boy.

"Get those fucking thoughts out of your head." Aaron says.

"What?" I ask.

"The voices in your head, ignore them."

"How do you even know what I was thinking?" I ask.

"I know you much better then you think. You are good enough for me if not i don't even deserve someone like you, so now ignore those voices in your head." He says and avoids eye contact.

His words leave me speechless.

Does he mean it?

Probably not.

I struggle to find the right words to respond and just let out a small thank you.

I never expected Aaron to be the reassuring type.

Guess I was wrong.

We sit down at our usual table and once again I avoid eye contact with Tyler.

I've decided that I'll have a talk with him tomorrow. Right now I feel too lazy for this.

Aaron gets up to go get our food and I hand him my money and tell him what I want.

He hands me my money back and I give him a confused look.

"Lunch is on me. I guess you could call it a date." He shrugs with a wink.

"What a gentleman." I smirk.
